Suggestion and Update Thread

Since we as a forum missed both Barb's birthday and the anniversary of Bob's death, how about a calendar system? Staff could update it with important events, and it could sit somewhere inconspicuous at the top of the screen, subtly reminding users of anything notable happening today/this week.

Could we possibly get some kind of formal rule about not directly linking to clickbait sites (i.e. Gawker, Cracked, Polygon/Verge, etc.) on the Lolcow forum? This has been a recurring problem especially in the Gamergate thread where people carelessly link directly to an inflammatory Kotaku or Cracked article, which rewards those sites by giving them traffic to essentially troll us.

If it's relevant, it's relevant. Even clickbait can add to a discussion, especially if the discussion includes media coverage of something.

That's true, but if something from one of those sites really needs to be posted, a screenshot or archive.today link should suffice and isn't too much extra work. The GG reddit (r/KotakuInAction) has a similar rule in place.

For @DeagleDad420,

Operation Tupacalypse is getting crazy huge, as are its discussions (both quality and not so). Does it deserve its own sub forum, like the "Side Ops" forum, in order to keep everything semi-organized? The megathread obviously wasn't working, but the multiple threads have their own issues as well since they're mixed in with the other discussions.

Operation Tupacalypse now has its own tag, if you click the tag it'll list all the posts with that tag. Most of the information is still trapped within the megathread, but there isn't much of an issue with keeping the future tupacalypse (which by the way sounds like a pretty good movie title) threads in the regular Jace forum. Works the same way for the other tags, like if you only wanted threads about livestreams or Tyce you can just click one of them tags. It does not require a subforum, all that really needs to be done at this point is to acquire and consolidate Tupacalypse highlights from the Megathread.

What he said. Still figuring out what to do with the current content still trapped within the megatheads but there's a thread on that here.

Perhaps a table of contents section in the OP that links to significant updates in later posts would work?

To help raise a few bucks for the forum I propose a system where we can pay a small amount to sabotage users. For example I could change Null's icon to a bent duck for so many hours. Only one of these could be active at a time. He could change it back when it expires. (Or it could be automatic.) Users should also be able to purchase protection from this sort of thing.

Another thing that'd be funny to buy is a custom banner for a user that lasts for some number of days also.

If people don't like the notion of using money for this then perhaps it could come from something like positive ranking counts or something.

Just a thought.

^If they're allowed protection in that scenario then the "one only" restriction should still apply.

Also disable images in chat, forever. And pass complaints about it on to a bot. And write a bot.
