Sunrise Movement - Zoomer "climate activist" cult, stormed the Capitol before it was cool

2000: we're running out of time. The ice caps will melt in 10 years. Trust me bro we'll see the effects of global warming soon.

2010: we're running out of time. The ice caps will melt in 10 years. Trust me bro we'll see the effects of global warming soon.

It gets worse.

We've been bitching about "disappearing ice" for almost a century. And it never completely goes away, it just slowly warms about the normal rate of natural climate change.

I remember growing up and hearing all this environmental doomerism in school in the '80s and '90s, and sure enough, none of it has come to pass. It was part of my "red pill" about the media and education. Environmentalists would do better to stick to simple messages of "we gotta breathe this air and drink this water, so we should do our best to keep it clean" and give up on the doomsday cult-like pronouncements that never come to pass, I think.

Really, the sustainability of various resources is the best message. California's water problems, for example. But there's not enough doomerism in that - no giant super hurricane that will flatten anything as payment for our sins - so ecotards are utterly uninterested in shit like that.

If they did this they would have to admit that they're the problem. California causes its drought by having bug hives in areas without water, and then growing soy and almonds for their almond milk using 100x the water a human could ever drink per pound of product.

Ditto with pollution. If they tackled that they'd have to admit that it isn't a problem anywhere except big cities. That wouldn't help them convince Western peoples to stop having babies and knuckle under for their second class citizenship in mega hives though.

My brother describing the group as such is the first thing that set me on edge about the whole thing tbh. You cannot say the words "We are an army of young people" out loud without making yourself sound creepy as all hell.
When you couple that with their tagline:

the whole thing seems incredibly creepy. I've said half-jokingly that they remind me of some fascist groups I've studied, and you have to admit that their emphasis on youth, vaguely charismatic leader and dogmaticism doesn't really do them any favours.

By the way, I found an article on Conservapedia (I know, I know) about them. Let me know what you guys think.

I'd compare them more with the Maoist Youth Movement, which was solely organized around the "revolution" (same buzzword) and bullying adult politicians and the childrens' parents to follow the whims of the vanguard party.

You're not the first to make that comparison:

Anyone who's even a little historically literate can see that the bugman menace is being led from the Chinese playbook. We're in a post-Cultural-Revolution era, where people understand how to cause the most damage to a society's traditional foundation with the least effort.

If the climate doomsday predictions were accurate, I could get oceanfront property in Arizona by now, but instead that property is as true as the claim that I got over my breakup easily.

Very few people will argue against common-sense policies designed to reduce smog and aquatic pollution, but those kinds of policies aren't particularly effective at preventing the existence of industry and providing a redistribution scheme that benefits West Taiwan, so heralding doomsday and demanding the collapse of the West's Industries and Standards of Living is the primary strategy used by environmentalists.

Speaking of which, Sunrise are now trying to get student debt forgiven by writing incredibly culty emails.
[Marshal Mannerheim],
More than 45 million people owe more than $1.8 trillion: That’s the student loan debt crisis in America. President Biden could erase all of that debt with one signature and free a generation of people from the crushing burden of student loan debt.
But [Marshal Mannerheim], he hasn’t — and that’s a huge mistake.
Unless President Biden cancels student debt now, loan payments, which are currently paused, will begin again on February 1st.
Add your name to our call on President Biden to cancel student loan debt before payments resume February 1st.

Reminder, this is the same country where the House of Representatives voted YES on a $768 BILLION defense bill. But there’s “no money” for student loan debt cancellation, paid leave, childcare, and literally anything that'll benefit the working class?? Oh! Okay!
[Marshal Mannerheim], we’re tired of the same old excuses and lack of political courage when it comes to the change we need.
Young people came out to vote in 2020 because Joe Biden made promises to us, including the cancellation of student debt. We’ll remember if Joe Biden the President doesn’t keep these promises.
So [Marshal Mannerheim], join us in calling on President Biden to be brave and put our needs above political convenience by erasing student loan debt before payments are set to resume on February 1st. Sign our petition today.
In solidarity,
Paris, Sunrise

I know it's kind of a meme in this thread at this point but… this will save the environment how, exactly?

I wonder if we could turn these people against student loan debt forgiveness if we told them Ethan Ralph is a huge proponent of the idea.

It helps pay off "Varsh"'s liberal arts degree from Boston University, which means she can dedicate more time to doing important revolutionary things like posting on Twitter and persuading people to nearly starve themselves to death for the Cause™.

Real question: have any sex pest charges or history been found on any of the older members? Hitler Youth is one thing, staring at the leftist version of Fundies after the Duggar's scandal hit the front page is another.
