So this has been a long time coming, and this is a extensive topic. But it must be done. In order to set the mood and give some idea of scale. I will most likely miss a lot as there has been a lot recorded in regards to this community.

Two known big autists in the smash community are:

  • Mew2king

He has also written an essay length post on facebook detailing how he views himself.

To save you some time I shall quote to you some highlights.

...
I don't fear death. I fear pain and hell. I'm similar to Obito/Pain if you ever watched naruto. But I try to do the right thing a lot like Naruto - It's just a lot of time you don't always reach the most optimistic conclusion (and in the anime, naruto is always written to have the optimistic conclusion about every situation no matter what the situation is).

The Infinite Tsukuyomi sounds more ideal for example, if there is no drawbacks to anyone. I might have sided with Madara tbh. Sounds smarter, and I don't think it's wrong at all either.

I think most people are evil at heart and we're just mammals bent on survival instincts, and things we like to do for our own pleasure or our own beliefs. The older I get the more I begin to think this. Religion, laws, and fear are all to keep us in check and brainwash us, most likely.

...

I have Bipolar Disorder (imo)
I suffer from Major Depression (for MANY different things. Many many many different things)
I have ADD/ADHD
I have OCD on certain things
I have aspergers
I've lived alone most of my life without friends so I developed differently as a person than most others. I don't expect others to relate to me most of the time.

I was actually diagnosed with ADHD/ADD and Aspergers by doctors. From reading the definitions of the other things online, I know that I have obsessive compulsive disorder with multiple things, there are times I can have split personality and can be Bipolar. I've known about being bipolar (from online definitions) since before college, and I have had severe depression for a long time since around 2009 and it's only been getting worse (or fluctuating up and down) to the current present as I am writing this, for different reasons.

It should be noted that there is a divide between the smash community and what is seen as the broader FGC (fighting game community). The main criticism leveled against the smash community, besides the whole hygine issues and such, is that they Smash fags tend to over run anything without contributing anything to the greater community. Wanting to be featured center stage at EVO, then being upset that they have to then share the center stage with the traditional fighting games. Upset that its nearly two decade only game no longer sees professional help at the tournament scene.

Some good places to look for tard cum include:

https://twitter.com/ScrubQuotesX/following (A general twitter about quotes from scrubs with plenty of smash stuff mixed in)
https://www.reddit.com/r/Kappa (They have a long history of documenting and shitting on everything that is Smash)

Edit 1: Formatting and shit

Saying that Smash is a party game and not a fighting game always riles competitive players up.

Adam “Armada” Lindgren, a Peach main, stepped down from his position as a panelist for the game’s rules committee to open it up for more female representation. The two females who were offered the position declined.

Mew2King being a bizarre weirdo in every video he's ever appeared in finally makes sense. I don't watch a lot of tournaments that involve a nearly 20 year old game where 5/26 characters are actually viable, but the few times I watch, I always wondered what the deal with the balding man with the dumb empty expression, rocking back and fourth was. My questions has been answered, and of course it was :autism:.

I don't know if he's really a cow or not, but can we laugh at Mango for naming his son Joseph Mango Marquez? I don't if it's narcissism, stupidity, or both, but who the fuck names their child after their gamertag?

This is misleading and basically sex-baiting on the part of Kotaku. You are correct that the two women who offered declined but what Kotaku left out is that it was due to miscommunication and Armada gave up his seat for the women who declined because of this (she's a well respected tournament organizer).

If you're really looking for lolcows in the Smash community, consider William Peter "Leffen" Hjelte. While Mew2King is just a lovable dork (and is also me) Leffen is a massive asshole. He was banned from playing in his home country Sweden due to years of inflammatory posts and unfounded rumors spread on Smashboards that were compiled into the famous "evidence.zip" folder, and he's still banned from commentary in Europe due to his tremendous fuckups at Heir II the Throne. He used his time on mic to claim that everybody was intentionally playing poorly at the tournament when really it was just him, having picked Yoshi and Marth and gotten upset early. He was challenged to a grudge match for his behavior by Chillin and this culminated in one of the biggest Smash memes ever in his diss track (Leffen beat Chillin 5-0 for the record).

Leffen's sperging has been kept mostly to a minimum lately though, likely because he can't participate in American tournaments without his sponsor Red Bull's work visa. It still comes up from time to time though, after being upset at two recent tournaments (losing a set to ChuDat at Shine but winning again for reasons too complicated to explain here and losing to Smash veteran Lovage at GTX) he went on to blame the tournament organizer for his poor performance.

(ironically MattDotZeb actually performed one of the more notable upsets in Smash history when he beat Leffen many years ago)

you got baby drama in your OP tbh "Smash is a party game that can't be played competitively" might be a hot take but it's nothing compared to some of the shit that goes down here, lemme help you out a bit
This is what comes to mind rn. There's more that I could dredge up but this is a good intro to all the most influential drama. I'm personally not too experienced with exotic meats, but who could imagine that Fox tasted so salty?

Hey look I'm mentioned!

But seriously, it is literally that pathetic that no one wanted the fucking position. Also this is the most autistic community I've seen besides of Overwatch's crusty tracer ass fanbase.

As someone who first got into the FGC through Smash, holy SHIT has the Melee community taken a toll for the worst. A very big part of the autism of the community comes from the 5 gods themselves who carry a lot of the feeling of entitlement the community has. A lot of members believe they should get a special treatment from the FGC because of how the community has stayed alive through more grassroots efforts compared to others (i.e. complaining about Melee not being a Sunday final at EVO despite there already being 2 Smash games)

I think what's even bigger than the divide between Smash and other fighting games is the divide between Melee and Smash 4. @ChineseEarthquake 's post only scratches the surface of the hatred between the communities. It's a huge shocker how different of conduct the Smash 4 community has compared to Melee, to the point where Smash 4 is accepted much more by the FGC. Even an autistic shithole like r/Kappa prefers to make fun of Melee because 90% of the Smash autism you still see comes from that community.

Competitive Smash has always baffled me.

Like, you're essentially neutering everything that makes the games fun and memorable.

Jumping around Pokémon floats, dodging cars and shit, constantly changing the platforms you fight on, etc. All the while you're doing stuff like having Bowser fire a laser gun, Jigglypuff smacking Ganondorf with a light saber, and nintendogs blocking the screen.

There's nothing inherently wrong with having a no items on a flat stage kind of match. That's the beauty of the series. You can customize how the matches go and do some crazy shit.

It's limiting yourself to that style that confuses me. It just makes the games dull and unenjoyable after a while.

Smash is indeed a party game. And it kinda makes me sad to see people lose sight of that and turn it into something it's not.

The real challenge (and fun) to SSB is adapting to the items and stages. I don't understand why doing it the "right" way means doing it like every other fighting game in existence.

What happened to just having fun?

The recent trend of trying to make almost any game an E-Sport, as well as developers trying to cash in on the trend, has lead to people getting salty whenever there is a ranked ladder in a game, or in competitions where money is on the line. I haven't seen as many of the rage moments in other E-Sports, but that's probably because those ones are team games, with professional teams being involved with them. If people tried to pull those kinds of acts in other games, they're bound to get benched immediately.

Granted, I am fond of E-Sports as a whole, and enjoy watching them, but seeing games trying to be come The Next Big Thing in E-Sports, only to flop because the gameplay itself is shallow, is just frustrating.

And that's an example of how trying to balance a game could be harmful, as it comes off as vanilla, just for the sake of competition.
