It's not merely a single game, it's a 20 year old game that requires a CRT tv, a gamecube game, a gamecube an 2 gamecube controllers to play at "professional level". Not to mention the company is perpetually against your community. It's a game that should've gone extinct already but didnt thanks to sheer autism.

Like, how long do these people expect melee to last? Will the same top players play melee until they die? 30 years later and we'll still have to see hungrybox play jigglypuff against fox? Why melee smasher refuse to try out any other videogame???

Let's go even further,
  • A game that has been wrung through so much that every character has had their potential played out through YEARS of people autistically finding any small exploit to help them out
  • A game that unironically had a situation where a big boy player decided not to attend a tournament because his controller wasn't broken enough for a specific exploit
  • A game where even if every single "God" retires the people who keep being second banana to them would wind up being the next batch of people to see for the next 20 years
  • A game that has become so ingrained to this autism that it has become their personality and one shining achievement, even the people who stopped playing it still have that lingering over them, good or bad
And the worst part is that once corona is over they will be right back to what they were doing, get in trouble again due to their autism in big events, and we will have this discussion again

Because many people in smash don't care about other fighting games or other video games in general. Besides, if you wanted to make money from video game tournaments you don't play smash or fighting games in general.

I don't blame Nintendo for not wanting Smash for being competitive. It would be pretty damn hard to moderate such an autistic and toxic community that other don't deal with.

Anonymous source but it sounds like some of the more well known people like hugs are corroborating/confirming that a lot of it is true.
Basically Nintendo has made a lot of false promises bout supporting the scene (planning circuits and tournaments and then never following through) as well as just cucking a lot of big sponsored circuits by HTC, Red Bull, Twitch, etc. And apparently even cucked Smash from a few televised events.

Also apparently JC (JCDotFace) made a "facepalm emoji" tweet when some big Smash circuit was announced and then deleted his tweet shortly after? This would only be news because people thought he was a homie and was generally very positive towards the smash scene

Its not just some plug and play emulator shit. The guy reverse engineered Melee to have rollback. For every other game you have to find your own autist or use regular ol dolphin p2p

I'll believe it when there's some more confirmation, and honestly after the mass outting of predators in the community before hand, I don't blame them.

And considering that during those predators being exposed there were still people in that community willing to bend the truth or outright lie to get back at others, I'd totally shut everything I had planned if I saw that shit

These people don't seem to realize that Nintendo isn't a company that's really invested into e-sports or fighting games - unlike the other companies that they deal with. They don't have a large "official" e-sport community for any of their games and I can't imagine that Smash would be where they'd even look to start.

While it's true that e-sports can make a bunch of money, it isn't a sure thing. Nintendo doesn't market Smash as a fighting game and a large majority of the "smash community" doesn't even want to play a smash game released in the last decade so it's already an uphill battle without considering the recent "touching kids" issues spreading through the same community.

It's likely an issue of someone at Nintendo showing interest in a community/circuit but then doing their homework and deciding it isn't worth it after compounding the costs. You need a tournament director and several TOs, you need several venues across the world, hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes/prize pools. Other companies offset these costs by bringing in sponsors/advertising - but Nintendo is less likely to pursue something like that. Other companies also leverage the community for help with local events but there isn't a chance that Nintendo would get officially involved with someone like IFC Yipes or Aris - not like the Smash community has a bunch of upstanding individuals to lean on anyway - with Cinnpie actually being both a child molestor and Smash Commentator for Evo 2019.

Nintendo does not want that kind of heat and the Smash Community has done nothing but get in their own way the entire time by making a tourney scene nothing but unwanted and unrewarding risk for Nintendo.

A smash tournament hoster on twitter says from experience that yes, Nintendo killed project M (like i said) by making twitch soft ban it aka literally threatning streamers to lose their twitch partnership and making everyone lie about it.



After that I was told I could no longer stream Project M on CLASH Tournaments through Twitch. I tried to deny and push back. They said I would lose my partnership if I did. They then told me I was not allowed to say that Twitch told me this and that I had to lie. I pushed back and said that isn't fair. They said if I said what I'm saying right now, that they forced me to do this, I would lose my partnership. They suggested some alternative things to say to lie about the situation or to lessen the blow. I refused to not tell the truth and never made such lies.

Either way, is anyone really surprised by this? It was Nintendo because of course it was. They want people to buy the new smash game and not play modded brawl so of course they killed modded brawl. This whole thing might hurt their image but it will not change heir minds because it will not hurt their wallets. Nintendo doesnt sell melee anymore, only the last smash sales matters and those will skyrocket regardless of how they treat the competitive community.

Hell, i bet they're hating the community even more now that everyone is spilling the beans on this stuff!

This tweet annoys me as it shows the blind entitlement the Smash community has over the game without even understanding why companies have to protect their IPs in the first place.

Again, they didn't. The community who streamed the games shut it down because nintendo wouldn't support them streaming pm. So it really was not a cease and deist. The community just got unlucky.

To be fair, apparently the child molestation accusations within the Smash Bros. community are only within Ultimate players, but still doesn't really change the Smash Bros community as a whole is so spergy.
