It is because Banjo fans started it. Back before Steve had much popularity and Banjo was in, Banjo fans used to tell Steve fans that Steve bad and Banjo is to be the Microsoft rep. People forget how toxic Banjo fans were because it has been a year, but they used to pull all the stuff you see Steve fans pull.

Steveposting was from long before we knew we were getting a second fighters pass. I'd say under those circumstances it makes sense to assume there would only be one Microsoft character. The only reason it carried on after the second pass was announced is that the two camps shitting on each other was so well in-grained at that point even though a second Microsoft rep was no longer out of the question.
 
Welp, this is really unprecedented and opens the door to a lot of potential future inclusions. Steve is the first western series inclusion (BK being a very special exception to this rule) as well as being the first indie game with a playable character (we all know Sans the Mii costume never counted).

I doubted it could ever happen but I guess Sakurai's hands were tied. We're definitely never gonna get Geno or Shantae (lol) but now Master Chief and Crash don't seem completely impossible.

The fact that Steve's in just made me realize something. Remember this leak from 5chan a couple years ago that everyone went apeshit over?
TL;DR it was Joker, Hero, Steve, Hayabusa, and Doomguy. Normally this would be dismissed as a bullshit leak (and it flat out was once Banjo was revealed) but it did correctly predict Joker and Hero. The thing to note in particular is that the one thing we knew about CP7 was that it was supposed to be revealed for E3 but got delayed. Most of us assumed a Corona delay which is sensible, but this one directly said that Steve was supposed to be revealed at E3 2019.

I think we just got indirect confirmation that Doomguy and Hayabusa are coming.

God damn it. Well it explains the sudden Grotesque Steve spam on literally everywhere, at least. Phil Spencer really did Master Chief dirty this time.
 
Never played minecraft but this looks really unique. Also, there's a fuckton of weeaboos screeching because it's not some obscure shit nobody knows.

Now all I have to wonder is if Doomguy or the Master Chief will make it in for a third Microsoft character...
