I wonder if they went with an old, cranky doctor just to troll the hell out of their tumblr fanbase.

Dr. Who is a kids' show in Great Britain. When Peter Capaldi, who is very well known for his "colourful" language in his other works, was announced to be the next doctor, it caused a bit of a stir. NSFW

(Also as not to spam posts, when I said I lost a friend to the deep, deep SN fandom- I meant exactly that. She discovered the show & fell down the rabbit hole. She exists in three states now: Work, sleep, and Supernatural- in some form or another. She even gets a bit morose & irritable between seasons. I mean I like my favorite TV show(s), but it's something I watch, not a lifestyle choice.)

Am I the only one who would prefer this version of the Doctor infinitely to his established personality? Fuck I would actually watch the show if he said shit like that

Instead of Harold Saxon (i.e. the Master) as Prime Minister, there would be Malcolm Tucker, and it would be glorious.

I used to follow my friend's Tumblr, but she got so sucked into the mania and posted so obsessively that I had to stop looking at it.
I noted that she often reblogged fan pictures and comparisons and theories of some of these actors CHILDREN.

Some people also hated their kids purely because it was evidence that the actors had been with another woman. On the other hand, some LOVED the kids and would edit, zoom in, make GIFs, and even make entire tumblrs dedicated to these actors' children. I would be mortified as a parent, I couldn't watch it anymore.

The main example that comes to mind is Jensen Ackles daughter. Seriously, look that shit up.
Well that's... perturbing. All I can think is that hopefully Supernatural gets the chance to mock these weirdos as they have done from time to time.

They did a little. One of the minor recurring characters is a crazy, entitled fan who tries to date rape one of the Winchesters at one point.

I remember that character (if it's one of the ones I'm thinking of anyway). But I was more talking about the ridiculous "LETS COMBINE THREE FRANCHISES FOR A SUPER FRANCHISE!" gimmick. Maybe it's me but that's a comedy goldmine.

Apologies if for derailing the thread.

Not derailing. The combination thing has a point. I've never met an obsessive fan of one of the triad that wasn't also obsessed with the other two. It's weird. If you could actually somehow lash these three shows together somehow, you'd be fucking made. Like Bill Gates made.

Giving the devil his due, each show in itself is okay all told. Hey, they're not QI, but they're not Here Comes Honey Boo Boo either.

Which segues into my next point. I don't understand the obsession. Like I said, TV show- not lifestyle.

Cumberbatch is so weirdly fucked-up looking he is too distracting to take seriously. Why he is considered a sex object utterly eludes me.
Isn't he English? It could just be me, but it seems like British people often have weird looking facial structures. Did Britain have Deliverance levels of inbreeding in the past? You know, aside from the royal family.

Theres something that just came to me: All the Doctor Who they fangirl over is the recent reboot

Where the fuck are the Classic Who stuff? Then again, maybe I should be thankful. The last thing I want to see is a r34 image of John Pertwee taking it full in the ass by... whoever the fuck is in Supernatural or Sherlock. Or even worse! Fanxirs (not fangirls! Gotta be all gender inclusive, even made up ones!) taking said image in my head (goddamn you...) as anything more then a cheap, crude joke.

Fuck.

Jesus Christ. There was effort put into thoose.

But you know what? At least that shit is in-universe shipping.

Edit: Also not *that* surprised honestly that R34 of The Master and The Doctor (pertwee era) exist. The Master was the primary antagonist of the Pertwee era, showing up in every episode to shit in UNITs cornflakes.

So... I'm the first I guess? I dig Supernatural (not obsessive fanboy but still keep up with the show) but have no interest in Dr. Who or Sherlock.

As for the obsession, I think a big factor is free time. Maybe it's me but fanboys/girls of most things tend to be younger. I get that because I used to get obsessed with shit when I was younger. I'm sure I was an unsufferable prick about tons of shitty media I dug in high school. Regardless I had the time to devote myself to whatever fandom I wanted. Now that I'm older I don't have the time, let alone the effort, to get super obsessed about a TV show.

Honestly, I got nothing to say except that it does sound worse than something from a brony convention. Overpowering the security and proclaiming your love to some actor, topless. Anymore to share, if you wish?
Not the same guy, but I've got one. A few years back I went to a con upstate with a few friends, and as we were headed to some Star Trek panel my friend wanted to go to, there was suddenly some kind of fuss and we saw this sort-of-chubby, largely-unassuming-looking woman fleeing the security staff. I was told, by a friend working security some time later, that apparently she had absconded with some sort of microphone component from the panel she had just left (Supernatural, of course) after the panel had just closed, because it was apparently touched by someone of import from the show. Searches of her person turned up nothing, and she was, according to the guard, turned over to police.

Draw your own conclusions.

As someone who used to be a semi-obsessive fangirl of a lot of different and entirely embaressing fandoms, I can confirm free time as a massive factor. All my fandoms died when I went to university and for once had to work for marks and had regular social events to go to.

I think just being young is a factor, too. You don't know a lot about the world, it seems scary, parents just don't understand, and it's comforting to slip into this huge community who likes the same weird stuff as you and dive into something fictional that you control to a certain extent.

Is it just me, or does this combination strike you as being as arbitrary as fuck?

The three components of this frankenfranchise don't really go together.
One is full of occultism while the other two are grounded in rationality and science.
One is set in the 1800s, one is set strictly in the present, and the third would quickly get tired of being a time-bridge between the two.

I mean, why not just merge....i dunno....Chicago Hope + Twin Peaks + StarGate SG1.
Or CSI:Miami + Blakes7 + Ballykissangel.
Or House MD + Smallville + motherfucking Spongebob Squarepants.
It would make as much sense.

Apparently, the main reason the fangirls like Supernatural is that there is a threat of Twincest; and fangirls like Sherlock because.....cucumberpatch is "dishy" in a "My Parents are from Innsmouth" kinda way that appeals to women with poor eyesight.
The only way this merger would work is if Sherlock is actually one of The Doctors other selves and the two dudes from Supernatural are....related to him somehow.

I dunno.

Whatever.

Nevermind.
