Surtur and littlebiscuits guide to F.A.T.A.L

Now I need to go cut out my eyes and drink heavily. Oh, so heavily.

Dynastia found the CharGen program. I am a 13 year old male Bugbear Noble.

Attachments

I'm a white dwarf lady named Guda who has some repulsive hands and feet but some good looking red hair.

Attachments

Need to ask Dynastia, not sure where he found it and cannot upload EXE files to the board.
Considering that, I'd like to give it a go, wondering what my horrible FATAL character would be.

I couldn't find the deep dark corner of the web I got it from again, so I've uploaded it. Grab it here.

I'll point out though, that the chargen program doesn't do everything. As a dead-eyed veteran of FATAL character creation, I'll have a look over the sheets it returns and give you all a step-by-step on what you still gotta roll for yourself.

Okay...

Rulebook

Step One
Download the chargen and have it spit out a sheet. Randomise errything, obviously.

Step Two
Record any racial skill bonuses you get for your race. Roll for your racial prejudices and record these (there's a chart at the end of chapter one)

Step Three
Roll for occupation on your social class's chart (chapter seven). Find that occupation's listing and ensure that it's available to your race, otherwise roll again. If everything's fine, record the skill level bonuses you get.

Step Four
Roll for your skills points using the age-bracket chart in Section 8. You can do this once, or once for every year your character's been working (check race description to find your relative age brackets and find out when your character began work). In the case of the 92-year-old dwarf you're probably just gonna roll until you get bored of it, instead of making a ridiculous 80 rolls. Invest those skill points only into skills which make occupational sense for your character, then add all your free skill bonuses from race and occupation.

Step Five
Roll for your sight, smell, sound, touch and taste, as well as the investment caps, and record them somewhere. These are all 3D10 for the skill and 1D10 for the cap, I believe.

Step Six
If you put skill points into Weapon (General), be sure to select the type of weapon (axes, hammers, swords, etc.). Same goes if you put skill points into Weapon (Specific), but pick your specific weapon (Sparth Axe, Horseman's Hammer, Flamberge, etc.) If you put any skill points into Sexual Adeptness, select your Sexual Adeptness Specialties (1 free point of sexual specialties per skill point invested)

Step Seven
Continue to chapter nine and select yourself a set of clothing suitable to your station. If possible/desired, purchase additional equipment using your starting funds.

Step Eight
If you rolled a magician of some sort, you'll have to sort your spellbook out. I didn't have to do this part, thankfully, but if you have to do it then skip to Chapter Eleven and figure it out for yourself.

Step Nine
Read the entries for your race, disposition (the ethical/moral thing), personality (the sanguine/choleric/etc. thing), social class and occupation, so you know how you're expected to act at all times. FATAL is not about roleplaying, faggot. The dice decide everything about you.

Step Ten
Hang yourself from a sturdy rafter and never actually have to play FATAL.

There's also a bunch of applied stats that you might need to calculate, such as your endurance limits, initiative roll, skill modifiers for all 300+ skills, etc., but you can probably leave those until you actually need to use them.

A 1000 page rulebook... Guess I'm not sleeping tonight and reading this shit.

It took over 12 rolls to find a job as a chambermaid but I'm a 15 year old peasant girl kobold named Mawayani
My lips may be crooked and uneven but they are my sexiest feature

Alright, we've found out how retarded the character genning is, so let's run a quick test of the next most autistic part of the game. Combat and sex mechanics. I've genned up some characters and I'll run a brief encounter for you all, in much the same way @Quipy linked to.

Two warriors catch the eye of a dairymaid at the same time. Clearly, they must now fight to the death to see who has the right to attempt to seduce (or rape) her.

In the red corner, we have Warin Bending, a sexually masochistic veteran of the wars. Not all that physically fit, but fairly dextrous, he fights in true Iron-Age style, with roundshield, spear and mace. His vitals are protected by chainmail and a nasal helm, but his extremities are left unarmoured.

And in the blue corner, we have a manic-avoidant slave-born gladiator, Ingelram Hatcliffe. Pale and foul of face, yet possessed of great intuition and decent dexterity. He's protected a finely wrought gladiatorial bronze helm, which aggravates his hayfever, as well as an articulated plate vambrace on his left arm, and greaves on both shins. He fights shieldless, with a net & trident, but carries a pair of specialised swords as a backup, one made for stabbing, one for hacking.

Alright, just read through the shitty stupid combat rules and I don't roll initiative until both characters are attacking each other.

So, round #1, our combatants are facing each other down, weapons drawn, twenty feet away. I'm gonna need an action from both Team Warin and Team Ingelram before I can continue.

edit ; We'll assume Warin is holding his spear and shield, with his mace strapped to his belt and his dagger sheathed. He can throw his spear if he so wishes. Meanwhile, Ingelram is holding his 2H trident in one hand and his net in the other, and probably should throw or drop his gladiator's net before attempting to engage, trident-style. You'll have to close the distance before fighting hand-to-hand (whether by sprinting, running, crawling on hands and knees, etc.), and as well as striking with your weapons, you can attempt to wrestle each other.

Okay, I'll bite. Team Warin!

Warin sprints, closing the distance by 15 feet (5 more left between them), shield up to protect his face and chest; he stops, draws his spear back and throws it, aiming for Ingelram's stomach.

Alright I guess I'll do Team Ingelgram. Time for some Retiarius strategy this isn't going to end well is it?
Ingelgram jogs backward as Warin sprints at him and prepares to leap to the side from any incoming attacks.
All I know is that Retiarius are more prone to evasion that toe to toe fighting so I figure Ingelgram is a bit more Reactive than proactive of a fighter.

A 1000 page rulebook... Guess I'm not sleeping tonight and reading this shit.
Asside from the whole "rape" fetish the book has, another huge problem with this thing is how fucking huge it is. Weighing in at 981 pages this is the biggest core book I have ever seen, and its not a complete game. You still need a copy of the Neveria book in order to play, since it has the remaining usful information as well as a Beastiary. I decided to go through some of my books and see how many pages it takes to get the same amount of info. The FATAL book is the same as a Players Gude and a GM Handbook, so I will combine total pages where needed.

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st Edition): Players Handbook 127 Pages, Dungeon Masters Guide 239 Pages, combined 366 pages
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (2nd Edition): Players Handbook 255 Pages, Dungeon Masters Guide 190 Pages, combined 445 pages
Dungeons & Dragons (3rd Edition): Players Handbook 304 Pages, Dungeon Masters Guide 224 Pages, combined 528 pages
Dungeons & Dragons (3.5 Edition): Players Handbook 317 pages, Dungeon Masters Guide 320 Pages, combined 637 pages
Dungeons & Dragons (4th Edition): Players Handbook 317 pages, Dungeon Masters Guide 224 pages, combined 541 pages
Dungeons & Dragons (5th Edition): Players Handbook 320 pages, Dungeon Masters Guide 320 pages, combined 640 pages.

A few notes here, one 5th edition is not released yet so I used the number I found on Amazon, so this may be subject to change. So far, 5th edition is the largest but only just beating out 3.5. That being said it is still 381 pages shorter than FATAL and I am willing to bet there are a lot of pretty pictures in 5th Edition taking up real estate. Plus, the PHB has everything you need to know how to play, so you only need one book unless you plan to GM.

Pathfinder Core Rulebook: 576 pages.

Pathfinder is based of of D&D 3.5 but they managed to shave off a lot of pages. Still, it has everything you need to play save for monsters, just like FATAL but with 405 less pages.

Call of Cthulhu (2nd Edition): Approx 160 pages
Call of Cthulhu (3rd Edition): 192 pages
Call of Cthulhu (5th Edition): 240 pages
Call of Cthulhu (6th Edition): 320 Pages
Trail of Cthulhu: 248 pages

One thing about CoC is that they are COMPLETE games, all you need to play aside from dice, pencils and paper is the core book. Everything else is supplemental.

Star Wars d6 (1st Edition): 140 pages
Star Wars d6 (2nd Editon): 176 pages
Star Wars d6 (Revised and Expanded 2nd Edition): 288 pages
Star Wars d20 (Revised Edition): 384 Pages
Star Wars d20 Saga Edition: 288 pages
Star Wars: Edge of the Empire: 448 pages
Star Wars: Age of Rebellion: 464 pages

After D&D/CoC, Star Wars is probably my favorite game to play and I have probably played Star Wars d20 more than any other game I own. Again, these are all COMPLETE games and not one of them includes rape.

Really, all of these games not only are better made, but use less paper as well, and some of these are very image heavy, whereas FATAL is all fucking tables.

Okay, first thing I'll do is calculate your embrances. Warin has a set of clothing under his armour, and although that seems to be handwaved away as an abstract "free item" in the books, 3lb sounds right for a shirt/trousers/shoes combo. Ingelram is oiled-up and mostly-naked under his gladiator's panapoly, so I'll consider his fruity little loincloth or whatever as weightless.

WARIN - 48lbs (Unencumbered)
3lb Clothing
2lb Helm
30lb chainmail
2lb gambeson
- bracers
3lb shield
1lb dagger
3lb spear
4lb mace

INGELRAM - 31lbs (Unencumbered)
4lb helm
1lb articulated armplate (halved because only left arm covered)
3lb greaves
6lb trident
3lb gladius
4lb falchion
10lb net

Okay, first encumbrance penalties start at 25% of your "Dead Lift" limit, which is derived from strength, and neither go over that, so you're both fighting light and free.

Alright, Warin rolls to sprint fifteen feet towards Ingelram. I'm gonna say we're on totally flat terrain so I don't have to calculate "angle of elevation" bullshit, cause that's seriously a thing. Okay, um.. Warin can sprint 52 feet in 8.4 seconds, so.. uh, 15 feet should be... fuck this, um... 2.3 seconds. Okay, calculator down, and we'll roll to see if Warin succeeds in his attempt to sprint witout fucking it up. The roll is D100, subabilities are only factored in to determine the speed of the sprint, not the successfulness of it. Since we're on level ground, unencumbered, and Warin has not invested any points in Sprint, it's a straight D100. The roll he has to beat is ((301 - Physical Fitness) / 13), which comes out to 17 or higher. Warin rolls a 70. He successfully sprints forward 15 feet, taking 2.3 seconds to do this.

Meanwhile, Ingelram is jogging backwards (there's a difference between a jog and a brisk jog, and since you didn't say 'brisk' I'm going to assume a regular "jog"). Ingelram can sprint 55 feet in 9.8 seconds, and he jogs at 50% of his sprint speed. It turns out that in FATAL, the fitter you are, the slower you run. gg fucking up even the simplest things, fatal. So in 2.3 seconds Ingelram can jog, um... 6.4 feet backwards.

Warin hurls his spear from a total distance of 11.4 feet.

Okay, so, Warin's hurl roll is 3d10. He gets +3 modifier from his abilities (the average of his hand-to-eye coordination modifier and vision modifier) and his familiarity with Medium Spears nullifies any penalty he would normally receive, but doesn't grant him any bonus. The spear's range is the cubed root of Warin's strength, divided by the weight of the spear and multipled by 50. I'm not even going to bother thinking about calculating that, since he's only 10 feet away and has a retardedly high strength score. We're well within range. However, since Warin also called his area of attack, we have to calculate the called-shot modifier. He's aiming for the lower torso, which is has the body-part proportion of 0.19 to Warin's overall size. Subtraced 19% from 100, then divide it by 5 and we get 16.2. If Warrin's roll is higher than 16, he will strike the target he aimed for (assuming he hits at all).

The roll to beat is Ingelram's CA, so let's calculate that. His stomach is unarmored, but he has a Base CA of 10, plus 4 for his agility bonus. There doesn't seem to be any kind of dodging skill to increase his defence, so he's just gonna stand there, coppin' it sweet, and probably shouldn't try his faggot-ass retiarii tactics next round, if he lives. Okay, we're rolling, and... rolled a 5. His +3 modifier keeps that from being a fumble.

Warrin's spear misses, I guess?

Next round, faggots.

Round 2!

Having missed with the spear, Warin slowly backs up 5 more feet and raises his shield again. He removes his mace from his belt and steadies it, waiting for his opponent's next move.

Alright dodged a bullet there or spear anyway.
As the spear implants itself in the ground Ingelgram sprints to within 4 feet and throws his net at Warin an in attempt to catch him while he draws his mace.

Alright, hang on. I made a mistake. It seems that any roll of 6 or less before applying modifiers is a fumble. So, instead of just missing, let's find out what actually happened.

I roll a D100 and compare it to the Fumble Chart. This tells me we've had an "armor anomoly". Skipping to that section, I find the examples given seem to be for hand-to-hand combat only. I roll again. 56 ; Loss of Balance. Warrin slipped over and fell onto the ground. Instead of backing up and drawing his mace next round, we'll just assume he's climbing to his feet.

Not going to even bother calculating Ingelram's sprinting this round, but let's have him throw his net. 3D10 for hurl, and the average for his hand-eye and vision modifiers, same with Warin. Ingelram gets a +6 in hand-eye, but a whopping -50 due to his near-sightedness. Despite a bunch of skills asking me to check vision, the vision stat seriously doesn't line up with anything I'm supposed to average it with. Great balance there, FATAL. I'll point out that the net would be absolutely devasting if it hits, since Warin is already on the ground we can bypass the Balance check to see if it knocks him over, and it'll automatically take him 1D10 rounds to free himself from it. Okay, so 3D10 - 22... rolled a 5, giving us -17. That's a fumble too.

Rolling Ingelram on the fumble chart now, and I get a 12, Over-Extension. Ingelram stumbles foward as he flings his net wildly into the undergrowth, bullrushing past Warrin and struggling to maintain his footing. Warrin would normally get a free attack on Ingelram's exposed back, if he wasn't already attempting to climb to his feet after his own ridiculous fumble. I'll point out now that there's an entry on the Fumble Chart that makes GodBear randomly become pissed off at you and drop a church on your head.

Okay, Round 3 and you're both back on your feet and ready to rumble. The dairymaid is growing less and less impressed by your martial prowess with every second.

Back
