UN Swedish Feminists in a quandry - Rape is bad, unless statistics used to demonize migrants.

Even as Germany has grappled with a scandal over alleged sexual assaults involving migrants, Sweden has been embroiled in its own sexual assault controversy.

It erupted on Jan. 11 after the liberal newspaper Dagens Nyheter reported leaked police memos indicating that Swedish police had covered up reports of groping and the sexual harassment of young girls at a Swedish music festival last summer by refugee youths. The story implied that the police covered-up the reports in order to avoid anti-immigrant sentiment.

The attention on these particular assaults has put many Swedish feminists in an uncomfortable place. They don’t want to play down the very real threat of sexual violence that all men potentially pose, but they don’t want that threat used as a political weapons against refugees. “It is very dangerous to racialize sexual harassment,” says Tiina Rosenberg, a founding member of Sweden’s feminist party, the Feminist Initiative, and a gender scholar and professor at Stockholm University.

“There is a long post-colonial history of the white patriarchy trying to rescue the brown women from the brown men… There is a lot of [similar] racialized talk in the making today that is anti-migration, and we should be very careful about that. We should talk about all the harrassment against women. We should object and protest, but we should not make the distinction about people from another ethnic background that they are more violent than we are… because otherwise we find ourselves in a place of saying: ‘I’m not a racist, but…'”

Other Swedish feminists agreed, saying that, while it may be good that it the national refugee crisis brought attention to the violence all women face, it is wrong to describe the problem as specific to refugees. “This kind of harassment and violence has been going on for a long time in every country,” says Gudrun Schyman, a Swedish politician and spokeswoman for the Feminist Initiative, “What is common is men.”

Yet, Ebba Witt-Brattström, a Swedish feminist who now teaches at the University of Helsinki still saw a silver lining: “It is a good thing for women that at last the sexual harassment of young women that has been going on in schools and on the net, everywhere and at every time has surfaced where it can be debated by everybody.”

In a landmark case, the Solna District Court has acquitted an Iraqi man suspected of abusing wife by pushing her against furniture, pulling her hair and hitting her face with a shoe. The court called the credibility of the woman's testimony into question, stressing her "lowly" parentage, the daily newspaper Aftonbladet reported.

In addition to stressing that the man "came from a good family," unlike the woman, the court ruled that the fact that the woman turned to the police instead of the husband's family "further" undermined her credibility. According to the court, "the normal thing" to do "in these circles" would be to try and resolve the conflict within the family.

The ruling, adopted by a divided court, triggered an immediate response from Sweden's legal circles.

"This is one of the most prejudiced and strange judgments I have read. Not completely unexpectedly dictated by two lay judges. Still no one in charge who wants to do something about the lay judge system?" former Swedish Bar Association president Bengt Ivarsson tweeted.

Prosecutor Josefine Dahlqvist appealed the ruling straight away, claiming that the ruling violated the foundations of Sweden's legal system.

One of the two lay judges who freed the man is Center Party veteran Ebtisam Aldebe, who is known for having advocated special legislation for Sweden's Muslims (especially in divorce and inheritance rights) in a 2006 interview with Swedish broadcaster SVT. Aldebe ran for parliament in 2014 and is a member of the social committee in Solna. Aldebe also played a key role in rejecting at least three Christian converts asylum during her time as board member in Stockholm's Administrative Court, according to the Christian newspaper Världen Idag.

"I've ruled in many cases. I've ruled in favor of men in some cases and in favor of women in others. In this case, I followed the law. Swedish law," Ebtisam Aldebe argued in her defense.

However, Center Party leader Annie Lööf condemned the ruling and called for both lay judges to leave their roles.

"Horrendous judgment in Solna. Hair-raising reasoning and values that have no place in a state built on legal principles. These values have no place in our party. Our politics are based on all people's equal rights and value, and being equal before the law," Lööf tweeted.

Roger Haddad, justice spokesman for the Liberal Party, which alongside the Center Party is part of the four-party center-right Alliance opposition, stressed that "politically appointed lay judges" were unacceptable.

"I definitely do not want those who are in favor of sharia laws in Sweden," Haddad tweeted.

Following accusations of supporting "honor-related culture," the Center Party was forced to specifically stress in a clarifying tweet it was "not in favor of sharia law." The Center Party also tweeted that it had lost confidence in both lay judges.

Political scientist Stig-Björn Ljunggren ventured in an interview with the Nyheter Idag news outlet that Islamists are being recruited to stress the parties' willingness to be representative, inclusive and diverse.

It makes me want to scream at their feminist government for their betrayl of the women they claim to help. In a way, it's an interesting look into two extremes clash: the ultra feminist society that has no resepect for their own men (to the point of wanting to elimine gender) and the ulta patriarchal society that has no respect for women to the point they have no problem raping and killing them if they step on the wrong eggshell. The former worries what others think of it and it's "virtues" while the other doesn't give a damn.

Are there any radfems who don't give a fuck and actually criticize Islam? There always seem to be exceptions, kind of like TERFS.

No, that's my whole point. When you look up the stats, they don't support that claim.

Where ever you source poor people from, they rape at approximately the same rate.

I do believe these are shitty people, from shitty cultures. But the kebab rapefest claim is not supported by the numbers.

Not true actually, but it's haram knowledge to take a closer look at the statistics. In the case of Sweden Finn's were the absolutely largest group of immigrants for a long time, so dropping kebab crime in with them diluted their impact on the statistics significantly.
Breaking it down into individual groups, countries of origin or regions of origin, paints a vastly different picture. The socio-economics of it, coming from poor countries, they're just lashing out at society, is the defense trotted out when some people starts to look like poon-crazy rapers. But looking at the crime rate, especially sex crimes, of people from poor Eastern Asian countries through a decade or so show that they're very close to natives even if they're severely socio-economically disadvantaged in Sweden - some Asian countries are even underrepresented in crime IIRC.

This is in addition to the undeniable introduction of new types of rape where the police themselves said that they don't fully know how to handle some of the cases they're encountering.

Source?

I have been looking at the statistics. To begin with, where did you find statistics on the specific countries the perpetrators were from? The Swedish government doesn't seem to track that statistics. Not since 2005.

All of the statistics I find say that rape and sex crimes have been mostly static in Sweden. There are bumps, but those are attributable to changing policies on reporting. (ie an incident that would've counted once in the past now counts for three incidents)

I doubt it, radical feminism feeds into the progressive stack and such, meaning in the west Islam is the religion of the downtrodden middle easterners and therefore they should be protected at all costs. Criticizing minority refugees that grope women while living off government handouts is racism.

Yeah, that's the thing, the properly compiled statistics (accounting for income and poverty and things like that) show that migrants commit only marginally more rapes than the natives.
I guess the rape epidemic that's visible from space and follows the influx of ((((migrants)))) exactly, despite the establishment's attempts to hide it, even to the point of having the police cover it up, must just be a blip in the figures
