I probably won't ever play Death Stranding, but it's not exactly a walking simulator, if you're avoiding it because you think it doesn't have any gameplay, you might want to try it, although I've heard people say it's not the sort of game that really has wide appeal.

I got the first one on sale for like $20 "to see if the hate was deserved". The atmosphere was good, it was a good podcast game after the first 8 hours... Plot was schizophrenic, DelToro sucks and the pacing was awful (huge cut-scene blocks for the first 8 hours). If you have kids it might get you in the feels a bit and the Mads parts are good.

I thought the gameplay was original if nothing else, I enjoyed my time with it but I'm not really jonesing for more. It has more depth mechanically than a walking sim but also it fucks up the walking sim formula, it should be doing verbal exposition while you explore like Fire Watch and instead it can't wait to throw you into a 3 hour Nippon style cutscene full of tar whales or some shit. Nuke them until they learn to write dialog for human beings.

Ps. I'm not a Kojima fan, I haven't played more than a couple of hours of MGS across the entire franchise.

I recently played through the MGS series for the first time, except 4, and MGS1, MGS2, Peace Walker HD, and MGSV are very good. 3 is also good, but it's a lot worse than the rest of the series. Just fire up Duckstation and PCSX2 (the best way to play the first two), RPCS3 or Xenia (I can't recommend the PSP version), and Steam (I would say I like the writing of MGSV, but the story is also very bad for reasons I won't get into here, so don't worry too much about trying to follow it, just enjoy the pretty lights or whatever). The problem with "cinematic" games isn't that it can't be done well, it's that the great majority of the people making them are incompetent control freaks, and also that it became a cargo cult ritual for making your game successful. Ground Zeroes is good, but if you are averse to spending the extra 10 dollars for the bundle (or are only willing to play the main op, only 65% of Steam players even beat the main op, lots of people just gave up partway, only 34% cleared at least one side op), then it's skippable.

I'm still quite curious about the franchise, will probably check it out eventually.
it was because the games were closely modeled after films.
And those films come from a bygone era that the new generation can't properly emulate. I really think GTA 6's writing will take a bad turn, the trailers don't inspire confidence. In hindsight, 5's writing had a significant reduction in quality of writing compared to 4.

I don't dare play games and watch/listen to something on the side, it'd only fry my dopamine receptors further lol.
cutscenes after cutsecnes after cutscenes.
Hasn't Kojima always been this way though? MGS4 was cutscenes galore.

The idea seemed funny at first but now, I'm not too sure. To make a meme/fake review when you've yet to build up credibility is a risky move, I hope he doesn't do it too often.

I played subsistence on PCSX2, the camouflage based stealth just isn't very fun and the writing is much less engaging than the prior installments.
You gotta play it like a semi open world sandbox game. Just throw on some grassy camo and you won't have to change for hours.

Did synth play Death Stranding 1 long enough to unlock and complete the retard chink mushmouth transport mission? iirc Kojima literally found a spastic chink woman with speech impediment to voice lines for an NPC you have to carry on your back, and it reminded me of that one developmentally challenged porn actress that Murdoch Murdoch did an episode about, the one with emotional support lizard.

I've been watching a bit of the Death Stranding streams here and there, is the hate from Synth for it warranted? Or is he just being a depressing fuck? Criticism against the walking stuff aside.

I am drunk but it seems to me, if you like this type of grind you'll dig the game 100%. I've never played it, but there are games where I fucking love the grind. To me, for those the grind IS the game. To collect everything in SotN? Yes. To maxx everything in Bloodstained? Yes. I fucking love it man. I think this is one of those.

I liked the first game enough to finish it, but not enough to rush after a sequel. "walking simulator" is a bit of a oversimplification.

The characters and dialogue are just as goofy as something from MGS, but al least MGS can pass as a fun action schlock. DS is dreary and slow, and thinks its deep.

That's what I thought too. Was surprised to see Synth hate and skip the cutscenes/story bits, they seem like your usual Kojima.
They're too pretentious, even for Kojima. It's like Kojima transitioned from being a westaboo into full frontal weeb shit pretentiousness and fart huffing, the game is momentarily as gay and emasculating as Persona, maybe even gayer and chock-full of technobabble and artificial pathos. The vtuber cameo is the least cringy part.
