So, here's a thing about TC that I forgot to brought up. But kinda seems the game did gain some steam in Russia, with several Russian chanells discussing the various factions and their mechanics, plus a few groups on VK. Which, actually makes me wonder how much a spergout would the creators have if they foudn out.

at times the game feels more like an art project rather than an actual game.
It's been said many times over the past few months here, and elsewhere. It's not a coincidence that so many people come to that conclusion, and as someone else mentioned the art doesn't translate well to 3d models and definitely not with the "muh grimdark streaking grime" smeared up paintjobs.

I don't think the people creating TC would give a shit, the problem is their mods for discord/reddit/facebook/bluesky(lol), and the community itself. Privateer Press had a weirdly large Russian scene a few years back, including recasters that began selling for warmahordes when mk3 started its death spiral.
Trench Crusade is more fucked due to their models not translating well from the art concepts and massively incompetent marketing and release methods IMO. Their art is neat, but it just doesn't really draw me in since I've seen that sort of style before, and those models look like shit when it's all in browns and rust.
It's kind of amazing how you can browse through FB groups and subreddits for basically any other game and quickly see plenty of good to incredible paintjobs for minis. But it just doesn't seem to happen for TC because damn near everyone just does basecoats, an oil wash over the whole model to wipe some off with makeup sponges or whatever, and then maybe smear some blood effect paint on it. Yet for other games and miniature ranges you can find well done gritty/dirty/whatever models that actually look good.

Faggots.

How the fuck do you have a Yugioh-ripoff RPG without an actual deck? Fucking lol.
Yeah I got somewhat excited by the thought of an RPG system where you could plug in an TCG for combat but alas...

(A shame. An anime style game which combined RPG and TCG would probably print money.)

Print a new module every few months with a themed deck and it would just fly off the shelves. Make it some kind of arch enemy style build for the end of each campaign since plenty card game anime have the main villain fighting multiple characters at once. You could even drop a module where the villains fight Bakura vs Marik style. How could they not see this?

that require people to have any actual vision and juggle both TTRPG and TCG mechanics, even if just going halfises on the latter
Copypasting a one size fits all system is much more easier

I once came across a Persona inspired TTRPG that was less Persona/SMT and more of a wierd progressive group therapy session. It was bizzare. I think SMT has actual proper standalone TTRPGs but they're all in moonspeak

Why does this need to be powered by the Apocalypse?
It's a system you can just yank right out of the box without thinking, meaning you can spend more time just coming up with ideas. Same with Blades in the Dark to be honest; it's the easiest shit in the world to copy since they are totally fine with you doing that so long as you attribute the system.

The big issue is you need to actually customize the system to match your game. The best flat game I know that uses PbtA is RVMA, and that's mainly because the creators made a point to specify what and how partial successes work, rather than that success but complication BS. They also cleanly outlined characters, gave them a limited set to progress to, meaning you actually have characters that can grow a bit, and other things. Flying Circus, for all its cringe with attempting to be diverse and fucking its character concepts, also masterfully mutates the system in such a way it's basically a new thing.

This is a dumpster fire of an idea and this is one of the few times my very particular ass would suggest a deck based system over this shit. I irrationally don't like using cards in my TTRPG, but this is one of those times where I genuinely think you need to.

Either that or you go full Pokerole, use a d6 dice pool to represent your monster and player stats, and then make a collaborating system friendly card game that you can expand via "decks" every now and again for more dough.

Is it just me, or does the hand riveted to the belt look like they got it as an asset from elsewhere because it looks so completely out of place due to the detail compared to the rest of the model?

I wouldn't be shocked if that was the case. There are a few examples where things just don't sit right with the rest of the model. He made a set of models based on some of the Helghan troopers (from Shadow Fall I think) but with the kind of helms you'd expect to see on Caesar's Legion from FNV. A great idea in principle, until you see ear hair clipping through the helm.

I have to admit I've only dabbled in 3D modeling as a hobby but... what in God's name is that topology? Were they sculpting vehicles on Zbrush using character sculpting tools? What fuck is going on there?

Oh, you want topology do you? This is a model that he created about 4 years ago and still sells. I downloaded it again today to see if it had been updated (I used to support him on Patreon) and it has never been corrected.

Sheesh, i was eyeing some of his models because i dig some of the faggy neo 40k romans he has done but i think ill just stick with Wargames Atlantic's take on them Nfeyma also has cooler guard-esque vehicles

What's really funny is Universus just released a critical role set WHICH came with NPC co-op boss modes. So like... just 2 steps away from your idea.

Warmachine, having basically self destructed a few years ago, was sold to a new company and are rebuilding. They announced a new plan: Ape OPR's patreon.

$10 a month gets you:
  • A variant warcaster or warlock every month
  • Themed terrain every month
  • Warjack and warbeast conversion parts, SR2025 objectives, defenses, base toppers, and accessories across each block
  • Free Welcome Pack upon subscribing
  • Loyalty bonus variant warcaster or warlock every three months
  • 50% off our MyMiniFactory catalogue
  • For personal use only
It's not quite OPR's "here's a free army" tier but it's pretty good. The Welcome pack came with a small, er, I'd call it a Kill Team but that's not right, of Cyrx, which are some Chaosy-Necromancery faction, as well as some alternate kitbash parts for an existing model, and a frankly absurd amount of terrain STLs. The alternate kitbash parts are an interesting way to thread the needle between "here, just download and print our stuff" vs "go in and support your FLGS" -- you still need to go buy the main kit, this is just bits they made but can't fit in the box. Since everything they do now is 3d printed internally, well, makes sense.

This month's (which is free if you sign up in the next week or two) is a bunch of terrain themed around the Gravediggers, which are a "Fantasy Steampunk Helldivers" faction apparently. It's all terrain but I do note it's all very very similar in themes to Trench Crusade, heh.

I remember the first time I read the Warning:Not suitable for Wussies and physically cringing.
It was definitely cringe at the time. Not to mention the metal vs plastic model bit... yeah I can lug around a case full of metal models, doesn't mean I fucking want to though. Also the claim that other games drag out when they had Khador as a faction...

15 rocketeer shots, 2 mortar teams, a demolisher with 2 more AOEs, a combined arms warjack like a destroyer with another AOE gun, a warcaster with another AOE spell and you're doing 21 blast templates that you probably need to scatter damn near every shot with because it's khador and their low accuracy and the shit took forever so you'd consider wanting a clock for a casual game.

The community also fucked itself by insisting that everyone always use mousepad terrain pieces because they were hyper fixated on accurate measurements(arguing over 1/16th of an inch and shit), so while mousepad terrain was handy to transport and store it always looked boring as fuck by mk 3. It's a shitty meme template, but it does show exactly what I mean for those who may not be aware

Privateer Press killed the game with mk 3, killed it again with mk 4 throwing out the entire existing product range(to be fair their SKU bloat had gotten retarded to the point of some factions having more characters than 40k had total units for most armies other than space marines and guard), and then now SFG has it and is selling 6 model command starter boxes for $80 to go with the 3 model battlegroup boxes for $70, clearly that didn't work so now I guess it's hope to copy OPR and maybe it'll gain some traction that way?

You can already do it with MTG decks if you want. There hasn't been a lot of cross overs since the MTG PC game in the 90s. It's hard to balance player decks against your villain decks but the idea is really good.

Warmachine is growing again in my area. I want to get into MKIV but where do you start? I'm repairing old models from storage to use as Legacy armies before I buy into the new stuff. How do MKI and MKII armies play in the new edition?

Are you the guy who ruined /tg/'s warmachine threads for years? Any time a thread was made you would see the same image and green text spammed. That anon acted like he was bullied by Warmachine players and would not let the grudge go. Mods didn't deal with him so Warmachine got pushed into /awg/ and until recently sat idle. SFG's prices are too high to buy in so the 3D printing options are a good way to get costs down for new or returning players.

The TC write ups here have been a great read. I've been lurking the thread for a while reading them. I heard there's local TC players here and I'm wondering how bad they are IRL. Online community is ruined, but how are the players that play the game? I know they're rare and the game is being astroturfed online by the leftists 'owning the chuds'. In the final days of /tg/ there were a lot of obvious shilling posts and misinformation about what the discord drama was about.

No? Never even seen that particular image before, it was just the first thing I found that showed what the average table looked like toward the end of mk 3(without having to jump on their discord or something more annoying). My grudge is with privateer press being terminally incompetent regarding how they handled basically everything from the game, their IPs, business decisions, community interactions, staff(their test lead flipping their shit on FB at the end of mk 3 proclaiming he hadn't even played warmahordes in a year was a pretty funny way to show just had rotten the company had gotten), losing their building to eminent domain and not doing the smart thing and moving to a cheaper area(and then not checking zoning for the new building and getting fucked in that regard too), and on and on... when they were the one company in the best position to actually keep a significant portion of the marketshare from GW once upon a time.

And yes, SFGs model prices are fucking absurd, but targeting a niche within a niche hasn't done much for OPR after many years now so even if SFG can make something of it, it's going to take forever.

I still have yet to see a TC scene exist at any of the local stores within a pretty decent radius. One of them advertised a game night for it once, but nothing became of it as far as I'm aware. About the only way I can see it actually getting a local scene anywhere is if you've got a couple of people in the community really pushing for it and they can also print minis for people.
