The equipment system and even some of the weapon special rules is pretty much a 1:1 of how Mordheim worked, difference is that Mordheim is a cult game that mainly had grogs playing it before the internet made it popular as an old school alternative to modern Warhammer
Compare the basic weapon list of core mordheim (disable every supplement besides "core") with a TC weapon list, some like the knives, shields and two handers have very similar rules or more or less do the same

If you just look at TC as just uber edgy soy Mordheim it all clicks, the creators took advantage of a little Mordheim renaissance when it comes to autists starting to play it and collecting 10+ years worth of rules into very handy websites and just stapled the art and setting to it.
The TC guy is the guy who made Mordheim, tho? Small wonder it's Mordheim with GW's claws removed from it.

Frankly I'm surprised there's not an Openheim version that files the serial numbers off and repackages it, OPR style. Well, I guess that's what TC is. So just... TC without the faggotry, please?

Not parts of regular armies that wouldn't opt to send troops without helmets in the early 20th century with a centuries long ongoing conflict(I'm aware ww1 didn't start with everyone having helmets, but we're also talking about a setting with power armor and shit). That level of detail is fine in something like a TTRPG these days where you're tracking your own sheet, not a dozen at a time.
Its a setting built out of competent art and the author's personal fetishes (the P80 jet fighter is a thing in the setting because its his favorite plane, lowkey based, but ridiculous when people take it seriously) there are a lot of things that seem like common sense but dropped for a rule of cool that still has redditors demand all the answers about any minute detail of the setting just so they can argue about it later

What I'm trying to say is just that, it almost feels like they had a competent Mordheim-like system and stapled the setting to it without thinking too much about a lot of things because it looks cool, Mordheim was just becoming in vouge with nu-warhammer players because of its low price of entry,"chill" community, years of free rules and competent homebrew, and general fatigue with GW. So it was the perfect time to try and shoehorn in a spiritual successor. If you try to think about it too hard when it comes to lore and gameplay consistency its just pretty pointless.

Closest thing is the dead project, Wyrd Wars

There's also the new Mordheimer, which isn't a copyright free version but instead a repackage of all Mordheim rules and errata as a simpler website

There's also a skirmish variant of WHFB fan successor The 9th Age
Although obviously that's more in line with WHFB skirmish

Huge (233k subs) ex-40k animator/lore channel Janovich came out with an anti-trench crusade video, im currently around the middle and its a dry but thorough look at all the issues they've had with 3d models so far and Factory Fortress' incompetence at fixing it, alongside with a general highlight of how most of the team behind it were blustering, incompetent morons
edit: it was mostly that, i didnt expect a mention of the great de-chuddening and there was none, he dismisses it in the first minute or so but it was still pretty much a lowlight of their general missteps in managing the IP

Reddit. as expected, has no real rebuttals and just goes "but janovich was always a clickbaiter, people in the comments are hecking chudds!" with no people saying who have watched the video
The cope in the reddit thread is just delicious. Those retards really have TCs micropenis down their throat.

I need to go back to my PC to screenshot the post but my favorite so far is some retard with "top 1% commenter" berating someone who lamented the move to plastic with "they're still doing stls, you chuddy chud" getting spammed with this screenshot that indeed says, they are discontinuing any major releases in favour of plastic
RDT_20260107_1825092766171498047111900.webp
he gets caught up in the single semantic of "no stls at all" which is technically untrue, but it still means that gaping holes in the line like multipart kits that were pinky promised on their groomcord probably won't happen (iirc, they were confident that multipart New Antioch was soon ™️)
You can get pedantic and say that the plastic Prussians are techically multipart, for a whopping 2 options for each figure

Pretty much this for me.

Its fine when its Mordheim or Necromunda where its your special snowflake group of maybe 5 guys. I can even see having "Appendix Sperg" where you provide optional rules for anally retentive detail of the point break down of everyone's standard gear.
But this is armies, everyone running multiple squads and this shit sounds like a massive fucking headache at best and fodder for min-maxxer bullshit at worst.

Well it's especially bad when you can't even get the minis to be WYSIWYG to account for these options.

Like this.

If you want to account for trench knives vs clubs, gas masks, helmets, especially when STLs these days you should be able to account for all of this shit as options because then at least the mini properly represents the sheet, making it easier to remember which is which. But because of this, I could go to fucking heroforge and make a more accurate army(it'd take a bunch of time to do, but still doable) than anything provided by TC themselves, their plastics, or really even a lot of the third party STLs out there getting shut down by their AI lawfirm.

Autism bit me and it turns out that their two only multipart releases were exactly the same, with two intended options per body (id imagine the 1 handed items are easy enough to swap, though) and nowhere near the variety of weapons they have available (no 2 handers)

For 5 bucks less , you can get these for sci fi, its a bit of a horrible picture but i have this kit, pretty much all bodies have options for atleast 4 of the classic warhammer weapons and then some (Plasma, Melta, Grenade Launcher, Flamer, Sniper Rifles and even Volkites) and also different types of rifles that look like drum guns, lasguns, regular rifles or not-bolters, leader also has options for plasma, laser, not-bolt pistol, not chainswords and not power swords

720X720-troopers-front.jpg

Even as far as not-Mordheim models go, theres these gigantic fucking sets, only real annoyance is that they're technically more expensive, since set 1 has 1 handers, 2 has two handers and ranged, 3 has polearms etc etc, so its 15 bucks a pop, still, 1 set knocks the socks off anything TC ever sells as far as bits goes, and for the same price (although iirc, each set has every weapon they had released until then, with the bodies and head being the major differences)

Someone on the Janovich video mentioned that the monopose models look like downscaled diorama statues, and i can see why

It's genuinely fascinating how the TC devs, from the very beginning, just kept making one bad decision after another, to the point where they are somehow now worse than modern GW. I saw one funny comment say: "It took GW 30 years to become shit. It took TC only 30 months."
I had a pretty good feeling things would take a turn for the worst when The Great Discord Massacre happened.

honestly my favorite fact is how you could segment the discord PR failure and the general missteps in their buisiness and you'd be entirely correct in calling each a failure that are entirely disconnected to each other, you cant even use the chud excuse because their business ended up being giga retarded

If it weren't for all of the business missteps, people wouldn't have cared about the PR failures. But unfortunately, they suck as a company and shit on their own customer base. The worst of both worlds.

Since I'm thinking of Mordheim, some IRL peeps I know have talked this game up. Anyone got experience with it? Good amount of nice models if nothing else.

Having never played it and barely cracked the rule book:
Its reasonably well liked, but not played a lot of because how involved play is.
Its not like Kill Team or a normal skirmish game, its played in a campaign so you need a DM. Its cooperative/competive where the players are working against the scenario and may decide to collaborate or compete (read: Backstab for gain). There is loot/wargear and it matters a lot so expect lots of tense negotiations and bartering over the spoils.

I should say, you cna just play it like overly involved and complex Warhams but that seems silly.

but the biggest draw back seems to be lack of promotion and difficulty of getting the expensive ass rulebook.

I could get into that just fine personally, but finding a consistent party for that...yea, that'd be a problem.

Oh well, at least the figs look good.

All of Mordheim has been released for free at this point by the Broheim guys. They even have a tier list of fan made factions that bring in factions that were otherwise unlisted in the original game.

And the rulebook PDF is free to download there along with all supplements.

Edit: wrong game, my B.

Moving the TC discussion from the warhammer thread to here.

Took a look at the supported Artillery Witch model from December 2024, which if it had known issues should have been on the TC issues spreadsheet that was last updated in January 2025. Just looking for islands, 44 detected.
Screenshot 2026-01-08 074449.png
They probably won't cause print issues, but why the fuck do they even exist? Also, this is the bottom of skirt, should be obvious by the legs, what the fuck is going on with this unnecessary geometry? You're never going to see this. I'm not saying they should have left it dead flat, but it could easily be simplified. No obvious resin traps up toward the top of the capes/dress where I'd have expected some to be.

Ok, lets check the sin eater, the big stupid round head thing with nipple pierce armor... whatever. 23 islands. Again most are minor, but a pre-supported model shouldn't have any, especially when it's on something like the teeth of the skulls at its crotch but other skulls that also need the support right next to it have support? At least this larger model is hollowed out and has holes through it with no obvious resin traps.
Screenshot 2026-01-08 075134.png

Same with the 5 trooper bodies, another 5-6 each, again it's a single pixel here and there, but isn't the point of pre-supported models to avoid this shit? It's a cluttered image so I didn't bother to capture it.

The annointed heavy flamer. Same deal, 9 islands pre-supported, it's just random pixels. You can see 3 right next to eachother here.
Screenshot 2026-01-08 075938.png

Now these do properly appear to connect to other parts at a glance, but at the same time it just shouldn't be an issue for what one would consider a premium product considering the millions of dollars the company got to make these things and a customer shouldn't even need to really question this stuff.

Ok, just saw this. Yeah I'm double posting but it's completely different from the TC stuff. It's a new channel with only their "channel trailer" up. Brown adults trying to make a battletech alpha strike batrep channel and failing at it before it really even launches. I actually clicked on this because I was wondering based on the thumbnail what game system had people using this shit as terrain and bothering to record and post it. I'm including a screenshot in case they change the thumbnail or delete the video entirely(not worth bothering to actually archive)
Screenshot 2026-01-08 130504.png
Now ok, maybe they're broke. It's not like battletech requires a ton of money to get into it. But then they show off their merch at the end of the video.
Screenshot 2026-01-08 131014.png
Maybe spend your money for shit when starting up a youtube channel on the crap people are expected to see like... terrain? rather than a bunch of fancy dice in cases and other miscellaneous merch?

So out of curiosity I look up what a "real" channel attempting to be a battletech alpha strike batrep channel is. These guys clearly aren't making money off of youtube with their view counts, but they at least put some effort in even in their earliest videos.
Screenshot 2026-01-08 130738.png

Now one of these channels, if I saw their table at a game store or convention it would catch my interest at least for a moment to see what's going on. The other would only catch my interest out of pure morbid curiosity to see if it's something to laugh at or steer clear from. The fringes of the wider gaming community as a whole never cease to amaze me.

On Troon Crusade news: Only-games has lost the reddit mandate of heaven
Hey all,

After discussion, the mod team has decided to loosen our rules regarding sourcing prints of the official models:

What's changing: we will no longer strike users for sharing links to services other than Only-Games, such as Ebay and Etsy, offering prints of the official STLs. Additionally, we are striking Only-Games links from our sidebar and resources on this subreddit.

What's not changing: We will continue to enforce prohibition of sharing 3rd-party copies of official art, as well as the prohibition on 3rd-party reselling of official STLs.

Why this is changing: Simply put, Only-Games has proven to be totally incompetent and is actively harming the community with their staggering lack of quality assurance and poor communication. As such, the mod team no longer feels comfortable recommending them as a source for official minis when there are a plethora of 3rd-party printers offering astronomically better prices and quality control.

A caveat: the mod team will not explicitly endorse any of these 3rd-party services. Users are free to share their favorite sources with no fear of repercussions. The one exception is that we request users make sure the 3rd-party printers they are recommending are not selling prints of 1:1 rips of official art from sculptors not affiliated with FF. Additionally, ensure that 3rd-party printers are fully licensed to print any minis from indie creators like Westfalia or Creature Caster that they may offer.

Happy crusading, trench denizens.

This more or less essentially means that only games was such a shitshow that the Reddit has disavowed it and instead will not janny sanction any posts to unofficial printing services or recommendations, Onlygames is still Factory Fortress' only official 3D print partner, (Archive) meaning that the reddit, one of the biggest sources of discussion besides the discord, has stopped recommending a key revenue point. As i understand, they endorse comissioning 3rd party printers of official sculpts, and only disavow unlicensed prints of non Factory Fortress lines and direct rips of the art. Most 3d creators do the opposite and ban people from discussing 3d print comissions and include this in their EULA even if you own the STLs, this an interesting move from a major forum of theirs besides discord

Edit: out of curiosity i looked at their groomcord and it was fucking hilarious, nobody mentioned it besides one or two people saying only games sucked. People were more focused on smugging over chuds who didnt like warhammer being woke, complaining about Janovich platforming ArchWarhammer at some point (from what i can see, Arch had him on the arch-cast 3 years ago), and some people getting baited by someone asking why do people care about gay people in a world where a demon can eat your penis off while you starve to death from demon aids
Its a fucking feeding frenzy whenever they spot a retard who is questioning their dogmas

The youtube algorithm seems to be pushing the Janovich video up to the top if you search trench crusade, followed by a recent battle report that cracked 1.9k views in 14 hours from a smaller (33k subs) channel, and loreslop from 9 months ago that has around the same views as the Janovich video

Happy crusading? Wow, just wow. Do they not realize how Islamophobic that is? Big yikes from me. Its also heckin' chud-coded and dripping with white privilege. Why not just say "I support Trump and state violence that oppresses black and brown bodies". I can't believe TC has been taken over by the Alt-right.

So after all of the complaining they finally decided to acknowledge that onlygames is fucking awful? Only took them what, 9 months?

He was on an episode 9 months ago, can just mouse over and spot the krieg avatar in the thumbnail(episode 136 with that italian guy with the ridiculous accent). Of course he seems to hardly get a word in during the episode with the italian guy just constantly yapping even over Arch. That being said, I'm not surprised their discord is like that. It's a bunch of non hobbyists pretending they're into something they don't actually participate in but "support". Like all of the faggots in support of palestine without realizing palestinians would gladly throw them from rooftops or stone them to death.

I don't know if it's TC specific, but I doubt it. I don't see much in the way of TC popping up in my youtube suggestions but I do constantly see low sub channels and low view videos about tabletop games, painting, etc. over the past few months compared to this same point in time a year ago. I think it's just youtube doing the thing content creators were bitching about(and looking for weird cope about swapping people to restricted mode or whatever) and trying to prop up smaller/newer channels and even topics instead. Basically stuff that just wasn't popular enough to pop up previously.
