Back in the mid-2000's I got involved in a developer discussion on a forum where players were throwing in their two cents. There was some stupid shit about "reducing stats to only the bonuses" and a lot of other stuff, but among that was getting rid of racial penalties, saying it was a "Sacred Cow" and needed to be done away with for the "hobby to move forward" by a vocal minority. It was couched as "why should a player have to take a penalty to play their favorite race? Using it for NPC's is fine, but PC's shouldn't have these penalties" and shit like that about "player empowerment" as well as some mouth breathing drooling retards mumbling about racism.
Watching this happen is making me laugh my ass off.
I was quoted as bluntly saying "None of you are going to be happy until this is just The Game of Big Gray Blobs and then all of you assholes will be arguing about whether or not its fair that some can be grayer and/or blobbier", riffing off that Fairy God Parents episode. Everyone told me I was exaggerating, and nobody wanted to do that.
A few argued that it was a good thing to do something like that, so nobody had any advantage over anyone else and everyone was equal at the table. When I said "Fine, let's work out some nerfs for wizards or buffs for martials" they all went REEEEEEEE! ANIME BULLSHIT!!!! and shit themselves in the thread.
They all claimed they were just getting rid of Sacred Cows and trying to improve the hobby.
I accused them of dumbing it down, stripping away any difficulty, and being narrow minded puritans.
Welp, Crazy Uncle Johnny was right again.
These faggots are playing an imagination game about fantasy and do not have the emotional or mental capabilities to have imagination or fantasize about anything but turning themselves into a cat girl.
Two funny things about RAS.
I asked him once if he ever played a drow in D&D. He said he made a drow archer, first adventure he followed a goblin into a cave and an Ogre Magi killed him. His DM told him to roll up a 'real character'.
Another time he mentioned that at times he'd throw out the idea to kill Drizzt off and marketing and WotC would shit their pants and it always amused him.
