I think TFS could get desperate enough to cover dragon ball or try redoing their original episodes but better ala George lucas. I think the popularity of abridged series has dwindled a lot though, haven't heard of anyone mentioning a new fanparody in a while. My prediction is they'll try to be a generic anime channel like mothers basement.

I can see them redoing their old episodes. They have already put disclaimers in the YouTube discriptions about 'insensitive jokes' I think yugioh abridged did the same. I've even seen some people comment about adding in Trump jokes about the red necks at the start of the first episode

Now that four years have passed since the final DBZ Abridged episode...has it aged well?

Every now and then I'll come across a random DBZA clip that will make me laugh. But as more time passes, I can't help but how their latter day output was, in a way, kind of cringe. They went from making a comically shortened series to trying to get away with doing their own dub—fighting the Powers That Be while holding onto the argument that what they were doing was "fair use," a position that lost ground as the episodes went from quick shorts to full length. They stopped aiming to be funny in favor of preserving entire fight scenes; the Piccolo/17 fight is a good example of that autism.

Everytime i see an abridged clip in hindsight after the initial fad i just cringe and look for the scene in Spanish because YT still struggles to purge spic reuploads of most major moments

On the topic of DBZ, i geniuenly love the Latin Spanish dub in comparison to the funimation EN dub, everyone there sounds too tryhard and anime VA-like

Ironically enough i think abridged had some similar voices to the spanish dub, particularly with Piccolo or Vegeta, compared to Funi atleast, but that could be me being retarded and maybe not realizing they could be imitating the JPN dub instead considering Kaiser simped for it

They used to talk about redoing the old videos so they matched their 'current style' during the Cell Saga, but it looks like Kaiser's given up on that.

yeah the show went from being a parody to being a "unofficial dub that 'fixes' DBZ"

Fate:UBW Abridged and Sword Art Online Abridged are still nauseatingly popular. The issue is that because DBZA is basically the only abridged series that made it from the early days of abridging to modern Youtube (YGOA sort of did but was so infrequent it made DBZA seem regular) people gauge the required quality of an abridged series off of it, and not off of the original style that had "at least 1 voice actor, who knows, maybe we'll get three up in this place" and were basically just quickly chopped up gag dubs. That means you need at least a small team of writers and actually halfway decent voice actors, a decent editor, and overall just a way higher quality product to release than you once did. It causes very few of them to be released and most creators to burn out or teams to break apart pretty quickly, so they never get off the ground. It also results in the 'active' series having TFS-grade release schedules because it takes so long to make an episode.

And, of course, any group that isn't bum-friends with Chris Sabat doesn't have Funimation's protection and is in constant danger of being nuked off the planet by Youtube copyright bots, at which point they usually lose all motivation to continue.

I think it's fine. At least from s2 onward, if you liked it the first time you watched it, you'll like it if you rewatch it. If there's parts you disliked the first time, you'll probably dislike it more this time because repeats make the heart grow angrier. As TFS themselves said, the issue is that the show gets much darker in Cell saga. From at least s2 onward they tended to treat serious moments more seriously (perhaps because at that point they had an audience constantly suggesting cringe jokes for those scenes leading up to them, pre-emptively ruining any decent delivery of variants of those jokes), and there's much more of those in Android and Cell saga than Namek and Frieza saga. Allegedly they would have gone back to a more comical tone in Buu saga because it's also lighter hearted - most of the time. They did openly admit that Tien's whole moment of awesome was something they focused on without humor though, simply because it's what they consider the 'last stand for humans in the show' or something like that.

I dunno if SAO Abridged is that popular, I haven't heard many talks about it even among friends who loved it. Most I think you'll get people to talk about S1 where it was actually good and funny, 'cause then the anime was a trashfire ripe for making fun off or even improving, however around S2 I'd say it's where the writers got off whatever bender they were on and tried to "improve" the writing and thus SAO just became another boring anime. Naturally, SomethingWitty still wanna do the comedy part...but well...what do you do when the new game isn't as busted or the villain doesn't have potential as the older one did? You essentially start to make stuff on the fly and clearly, they're struggling with it big time.

Grant and Kirran, and especially Grant were always into "so bad it's good" kind of humor. It comes out pretty often when they're doing streams by themselves.

How and why these guys are still a thing boggles me. I guess they just really want to be a dragon ball (franchise they arent legally allowed to use) themed Roosterteeth (a failing company).

I'll die on this hill.

The series only got bad after Cell was introduced, the Android saga TO Cell was their best work bar none.

Nah I can agree with that for most part, I quite enjoyed it right until Cell. He was mildly funny but still kinda spooky which I assume was the point then it just became a heavily belabored point. Every evolution past that was less enjoyable. Like, I enjoy his voice and I think he's talented .. but you didn't need to try to force multiple memes, have him sing, and be more meta than any character period.

In the actual show I feel like Cell really got less interesting the more he evolved since his creepier aspects mostly took a sideline. A common thing throughout the show that they even commented on.. then promptly fell into the same trap with because I think Kaiser was adamant about Cell being the best villain. Then seemed vaguely aware of when they had Cell comment he wanted to take the name 'Jiren'.

Jiren, huh? That’s weird. Were they upset Toei wouldn’t let them touch Super?

Funny, I’ve heard that people liked Frieza the most.

Couldn't tell you about the company side of things but I know that the Dragonball "fandom" has a pretty dim view of Jiren since he's basically just a grey alien who somehow is so powerful he forces yet another power tier-up from Goku. The scene in the abridged version makes it very clear it's supposed to be a lame name and a shot at Jiren, also maybe a mild joke about how Cell is lame or whatever.

Really I found their 'Kai Abridged' take on Cell funnier than the actual run through since it takes the piss out of their dramatic moments including their fan made songs about Trunks and Perfect Cell singing Frank Sinatra.
