I think easily one of my least, LEAST favorite forms of content on Youtube is like this...pseudo-writing bullshit where you have dudes pat themselves on the backs for saying what they WOULD write instead of actually writing it. Open a document and write the fanfiction yourself or shut up. It's especially obnoxious when they do it to "fix" bad movies even though the people who made those bad movies in the first place probably summarized it and made it sound cool to a bunch of other people as well.

Also, I never quite understood the constant prevalence of "what if" scenarios for DBZ, because I always felt the story's "boss fight to boss fight" structure was just too linear to really benefit that much from it, and in fact, a lot of them just make the story more boring.
"What if Goku never hit his head?"
He'd just kill everyone or get killed himself and the series would be over. "
What if Raditz turned good"
Vegeta kills him for insubordination, his dumbass never even trained away his weakness to his tail getting grabbed, he is NOT getting good enough to survive that fight in just a year.
"What if Frieza turned good"
It's Frieza.
"What if Goku was a girl?"
Then they never make it past the android saga or maybe even the Frieza saga if Goku can't scissor Gohan out of Chi Chi or something. Who else would he fuck? Krillin?
"What if the Z fighters were more relevant?"
Then the show's boring as hell since it's not made for big team battles. You'd have to rely on buffing weaker villains, which at a certain point would get very messy if the average Frieza mook could just aim down and destroy earth, using non canon characters, which would be repetitive, or making OCs, which the Dragon Ball fandom is absolutely shit at in most cases. The truth is that no matter how useless some of them may seem, nobody wants to watch an anime with like 8 or 9 main characters who are equally powerful.
"What if the movies were canon?"
Then everyone goes to time jail because this shit does NOT make sense, but also it's boring because a majority of the movie villains were just recycled canon characters but stronger, and they'd either kill everyone without Goku being able to use his "it's non canon, do whatever the fuck you want" card at the last five minutes, or be entirely redundant.
"What if Cell turned good?"
Then no Cell Saga, and he gets sidelined because he'd get killed by Buu or Dabura if he actually tried to fight them without training, since canon Cell NEVER trains.

It's just not a series where you can go "What if THIS happened instead?" and get a super interesting story out of.

It's easy to think of a cool concept, but actually making it into a working story is another thing. Stories like "Endless Eight" is the best example of it, cool idea? Sure. Horrifically bad when you sit through 8 episodes of the same shit? Absolutely.

The idea is having dream matches without Goku taking over the spotlight. Issue is that most of the times it breaks the power scaling.

But what if Frieza met Hitler and they got drunk together or their shared hatred of an inferior race?
Forget Hitler, I want Frieza to meet someone else instead.

"I tire of those monkeys, they really know how to bring my blood to a boil..."
"Damn right, and those Saiyans seem like a God damn pain in the ass too!"

Android 16 giving Gohan an encouraging speech about the importance of fighting to preserve the lives of those you hold dear was fine, but what that scene REALLY needed was for him to dress Gohan down and tell the eleven year old to "grow up."
DBZ isnt exactly the epitome of shonen 2deep4u but that was such an odd choice, Gohan was a kid who was fighting since he was 5, saw multiple people die, come back and die again, and was otherwise more or less supposed to be the chosen one that never could reach his full potential due to fear or other shit. 16 dying even though he wanted nothing but true peace (compared to everyone else around him who had more mixed or vauge feelings) was a good catalyst for his anger.

Him being told to "lol suck it up fgt" is just retarded, the entire story outright shows you how he had to grow up in record time, multiple times, and they still had to rewrite a true paragon of innocence into a projection of their own insecurities

The speech leading up to his death added to it. Of all the people there, he's probably the one who gets Gohan the most in regards to his distaste for violence, and the approach he takes when talking to Gohan reflects that. 16 doesn't hype him up or appeal to his pride, he relates with Gohan's gentle nature and helps him come to terms with a severe psychological block.

For what it's worth, Lawrence has actually done this, too, for his channel, with the "What if Freeza was good" series. Does a full-on audio play from a certain point, if memory serves, with other VAs. It's not the best DBZ fanfic, not by a long shot, but it's a long shot better than the usual "Then Goku goes Super Saiyan Five and then he launches the spirit bomb at Celleeza and he dies and then everybody clapped" sloptent.

Just realized it's been nine months since the last HFIL episode. Could have sworn they were saying it was coming soon but I guess not. Took a look at their bluesky page and the pinned tweet is from nine months ago announcing the previous episode coming soon but you could watch it early on their patreon.

Checked their youtube page and the last post, from five months ago, was of the demons dressed up like Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble, so I guess it's a Halloween episode that they're saving for October? So that would be almost a year in between episodes. That's really going to help them with the algorithm.

I guess he is actually getting out regular dragon ball content on youtube, even if it is very, very cringe... Same can't be said about the other members of TFS.

How does the original sound more like an abridged bit than the actual abridged, who actually has something that could be seen as a serious character arc? Some wires got crossed there.
He wrote the first season out, then had zero plans for the rest and it went on A LOT longer than anticipated. He then had to jump through hoops to rationalize the rest.

both for a joke about Chi Chi trying for another kid
Fuck off, the Goten thing was clever. I would have never thought of that.

Dude, what the actual fuck?
I had no idea about this. First the Yu-Gi-Oh abridged series and now this. No idea why abridged series creators feel they need to have any input on this shit.
Have any of these TFS people done anything of note to stand up to the tyranny of Orange Frieza or do they just tweet?
TFS and Martin are both wickedly leftists. Lani had his literal 30 minute long crying video. Taka is Canadian so of course he fucking hates Trump. Martin, fuck man look at his wife....and his ex wife. They're both land whale monsters. Pink hair and all.

Lani had a cry stream after the election, but nobody archived it before he could delete it. Outside of that, it's just been potshots fired over Twitter.
It was a real gem. He was legitimately crying on screen for 30 minutes. It was such a jarring video I remember it pretty well. He was sitting next to his computer in the Texas studio basically going.

"So THAT happened..."
"I'm... I'm afraid for some of my friends, and family and loved ones."
"But we're going to get through this. We're going to weather this storm and hopefully everyone is going be okay."

He was legitimately crying for 20 minutes. It was the most jarring thing I had ever seen. It was also the first major TDS videos I saw out of a YouTuber.

But what if Frieza met Hitler and they got drunk together or their shared hatred of an inferior race?
Dragonball already answered that. Hitler would love Saiyan's because they get blonde hair and bluish eyes.

Forget Hitler, I want Frieza to meet someone else instead.
Don't give Devil Artemis ideas.

A long standing criticism is that 16 doesn't talk with Gohan AT ALL before this. Heck Gohan shouldn't even know who 16 is before the Cell Games. That's why they wound up changing his speech.

I think that's a dumb critique but even if I agreed with it, how does their change do anything to address it? 16 talks with Gohan just as much in their rewrite as he does in the original and his assessment of Gohan's character in the rewrite seems more based on Cell's comments. No, 16 didn't talk with Gohan before the Cell Games, but I don't see how that prevents him from being able to relate to Gohan during the Cell Games.
