Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

Probably mentioned before but phone verification. Every major website you try to create a new account on will ask for that shit no matter what info you put in on sign-up, and even if you ask them on support for alternative forms of verification they will just flip you off no matter what. Even my normie friends who've been using these websites for years are getting hit with that shit.
as an added bonus, that makes you extra fucked if you get sim card swapped because then the mexican that stole your number can just reset all your passwords because they are now in possession of your phone number!

It's quite literally datamining. Those FAGMAN fuckers absolutely need your phone number so they can correlate your activity on other websites and build a better profile on their good goy citizen.

I just buy one-time use SMS numbers using crypto (Monero preferably) every time I'm forced to register on those faggot websites, fuck them.

The newest Mainboard I got doesn't even have a connector for the PC Speaker anymore. Can't even add a piezo beeper now. What shall I do now without the reassuring POST Beep that tells me everything is alright? What have they taken from us? First the floppy drive connector now the PC speaker? Where will this madness end?

With how you can use a 10+ year old computer and some lightweight linux just fine for some movie watching, writing emails and internet browsing and how the mobile market keeps stealing the desktop' makers lunch, it was only a question of time until the subscription models for hardware would start, because why innovate if you can just squeeze people? Never thought it would start with mice though.

Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber recently discussed the possibility of one day selling a mouse that customers can use "forever." The executive said such a mouse isn't "necessarily super far away" and will rely on software updates, likely delivered through a subscription model.
knowing corpos, "forever" means three years max.. Feel free to pay them during these years tho.

What I really don't get is that everything has to be connected to the internet, have an app, require an account for collecting data, and then having that data sold to LexisNexis and/or leaked. If something is on the internet it does not mean it's smart, in fact I would argue the opposite.
I recently tried to buy some switching plugs with a remote, so I went to hardware_store and most of the stuff there on offer is either very basic relics or smart-enabled cloud nonsense with an app. Went to scamazon, same story: either relics, no-name stuff of the HOUSEFIRE brand that I would not even give to my worst enemy or internet connected stuff (obviously supported by bezos' normie wiretap) so that was not an option. Tangent: X10 is still relevant, apparently.

I found what I need at a default_corporate_supplier and ordered what I needed, exact picture attached.

This is, unfortunately, not the norm now, but this thing will not brick if my internet goes down and would probably keep working for decades, no app, no nonsense, just does what it needs to and even your grandmother already knows how to use it.
These aren't safe either;

What are you gonna do when there's a flood or an earthquake? I'M SORRY DAVE, I'M NOT CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET AND CANNOT OPEN THE DOOR. Oh a droplet of water reached the PSU? All doors are hard locked because the ai failed to communicate with the locks?

Nevermind that these safety features are so half-assed a thief with a turkey pump or s lighter could trick your house into thinking it's on fire and emergency-unlock all doors.

Sure it looked nice in the Jetsons when they had automatic fridges and conveyor belts etc, and you can probably trick an technro angel into wasting $$$ on such projects, butsmart houses will always be more of a death trap than anything else.

Just a serial code when paying for software. The only thing we got now is:
  • Software download/licence managers
  • Subscription based software
  • Only online activations
Just give me a serial code, I refuse to pay for these “only online rent-ware” that has DRM bloat running in the background. The fact that I can’t even have a clean backup installer of said software together with my project archive is unacceptable.

Seething moment about FL Studio:

I realized how cucked everything is when I was just about to pay for some plugins only to realize you needed internet to activate it while running your DAW. This is why I haven’t bought a single new software (VST plug-in in my case) for years, because I can’t archive anything (legally) with them. I’m stuck with older software that has an offline serial code or just a simple licence file. I take the archiving of my stuff very seriously which is why I'm so MATI on this.

2024FLStudio.jpg
For updated versions, the offline shit is gone. FUCK!

> muh it’s because of piracy
It’s such a backwards way to “combat piracy”. With this shit, it becomes more logical to actually pirate said software. In order to debloat the software (optimize it) and to be able to archive the installer (100% no online activation), you have to go to a sketchy third-party site… that has the software for free.

God I hate iLok, (((Waves))) and Native Instruments so much and I'm seething at the fact that Image-Line (FL studio) removed the offline licence file, only to replace it with a pseudo "offline" activation "to combat piracy"... at the same time they started adding subscription based sevices where you rent VST's and buy samples through credits, also adding the "cloud song mastering" shit (yes, another AI meme where you got no say in what they do with your stuff).
FL Cloud rentware.jpg
Image-Line is right behind Adobe and Waves etc, and you get banned on reddit and on their forum if you ever mention anything related to this. The only reason they got away with this is because a majority of FL Studios user base are niggers. Unfortunately the memes are true, it's really is the future doctors and engineers rappers DAW of choice. But my God it's so comfy and fast. I make a lot of melodic stuff and no other DAW can beat FL Studio's piano roll and the pattern workflow is really neat. I'm currently looking at Reaper, but I got too many projects so I'm down too deep on this to actually do the switch.

Britbong TV series “Thunderbirds” predicted this sort of thing 60 years ago - most of the plots involved a new invention that Could Not Possibly Go Wrong until it did at the end of Act 1, thereby needing intervention from the International Rescue Organisation and their Thunderbird aircraft - maybe it should have been re-run more often

I don't know if this is the right place but whatever.

I'm so tired of dei/faggot pandering in tech. At defcon and only good thing today looks like the ham radio license in a day. It's a all day event and nothing else is going on. Good day to take it is thursday since Friday and Saturday is full of events you will miss if you're at the library studying ham like a nerd.

No. Capped at 100 people requiring a deposit. It was full last year and it's full this year. You would think that if it's keeps filling up then adding a second class would be good for spill over but I guess that takes away from all the queer mixing events. Bside had queer mixers as well. It's all about queer mixers now. If not that black in tech mixers or pronoun badges.

It's part of the bigger problem of cutting actual tech shit for dei initiatives. Popular mechanic and scientific America is the same.

Rant over. Just needed to bitch somewhere.

Edit: friendship bracelet making event for women in tech. This fucking infantilizing shit....

Double edit: tempted to just fuck it and goto circus circus next door

Some Kia vehicles (i.e. the newer Sportages and the EV6) have a capacitive touch screen that serves as both the HVAC and infotainment controls, and you have to toggle a switch (?), to switch between the two:

That usually leads to accidentally adjusting HVAC settings, when you want to adjust infotainment settings instead, and vice versa.

New apps on phone requiring updated OS version. Manufacturer supporting versions for only 2 years and then it's over and you are forced to buy new just to use same old garbage.
Mandatory phone number registrations for everything.
Sites loaded with tracking and ad scripts that take more to load than site itself.
Deaths of forums and replacement with facebook groups and other similar garbage.
No more spare batteries for phone, everything is glued shut.

That's a weird one, because I've been using the same Logitech G5 for like 15 years now and didn't need any software bullshit with it.

Preach. Tech conferences are just paid vacations/mingling weeks for DEI peeps. Most people don't even go to the conference and justgo to the afterparties and visit the city during the day.

Most nerds and people interested in tech are told to go in the office and crunch those tight deadlines. No time to idle now that 2/3rds of the team are retarded pajeets who can't grasp English language.

Same for artists. Come on guys, we have to do 3 different graphics for the ABC tests!

Saw an old car from no later than the '30s or '40s. No touchscreen on dashboard, no keyless door handles*, no rearview camera. Just analog gauges and mechanical controls.

I used to daily a big old 1940s truck. It had zero conveniences, id say even by 40s standards it was spartan, some got sent to russia for lend lease in ww2 and they quite liked them. It had keyless door handles. I.e no locks
Bench seat was also the fuel tank.
There were half a dozen or so grease cups to fill at start up, manually prime the fuel pump. Manual choke of course but also a manual dash mount throttle control, I assumed it was for farm work where you could just set it and feed out hay off the back or something
It was great, probably the most reliable thing I have ever owned, it will run forever, super low gears so it will pull the earth, just don't be in a hurry anywhere.
Driving my 1950s car was light years ahead of it in terms of driver comforts, and that has next to nothing. Just the drivers seat is adjustable. No radio, no heater
