IoT devices. Stop making a mobile application for everything in the house, they dont need it.

My sous-vide has built in wifi and I want to kill myself.

What Apple did to the phone market still pains me. I know that the consolidation of the industry to strictly slate design was inevitable and Apple was just the first to figure it out, but the era of weird and unique devices was just so damn fun.

Missing my personal favorite dumb Nokia phone:

I miss my computer and Internet browser letting me fuck up if I wanted to. Now they'll just straight up block me from doing certain actions or downloading certain things which just drives me up the fucking wall.

I miss DIY photo kiosks where you could print photos from just about any media (SD card, USB, CD, etc). It's not even that old of a tech, but all the stores that had them around here have removed them because Current Year. That is, they weren't making enough money anymore. I also miss places to get film developed.

A trend I dislike is this "selfie" craze. It's gotten so big that "selfie sticks" are a thing now, and phones have excess cameras.

I'm still kicking myself over getting rid of the top of the line 27" Trinitron CRT I had. Literally just chucked it into a dumpster when I got my first LCD, thinking that it was completely worthless.
That hurts me too because Trinitrons are considered the best CRTs out there.

I thought about hunting one down since you could just get them for free for a long while, but my old Magnavox set is fine. It's 32" and I moved it up two flights of stairs by myself, and there's no way in fucking hell I wanna do that again.

Companies moving "to the cloud" just because they've heard about it being some kind of nebulous "future", and forgoing perfectly acceptable, scalable and securable local networks. Its soul destroying sitting through a presentation about all the wonderful benefits and the idea that giving your data to someone else is somehow inherently more secure than bothering with it yourself.

I preferred it when consoles didn't need a fucking UI
The Xbox One really has one of the worst UI and menus ever created. That crap seems to use a lot of resources too. The dashboard is clogged with unnecessary nonsense (ads, eThot and Community tabs, each of them load and play videos that make the console lag) and the store page isn't really dedicated to the games, you have to go into another menu and even then it's a pain in the ass to find what you want. That said there's one thing that they did right: the option to disable autoplay on the videos.

And some PC market trends I hate:
-RGB in everything. It can be useful when used in a keyboard or a mouse, but I don't want to have a fucking rave party inside my case.
-Removal of 5,25" bays, tempered glass, vertical GPU mounting, PSU shrouds. I hope that when I finally gather up some dosh for an upgrade, Fractal Design Define XL R2 will still be available, or a worthy successor of it will be available, because it appeals to me in many ways.

- RGB in the case is nice when used subtly because it can add a lot to a build.
Agree though

- removing drive bays because apparently no one buys disc, I wish the Thermaltake I have has one so I can play my copy of RCT3 since none of the online marketplaces like Steam and GOG sell it anymore (or at all)

-Vertical GPU mounting is shit and reduces airflow on the card unless it's water-cooled

- Shroud are a feature I welcome in cases since it hides the cables. Good for cable management

- Tempered glass is a personal preference like RGB. But most temepred glass cases have these four thumbs screws and to open the front I have to lay it down so I don't drop the glass. Also I don't know if there's any replacements.
(Edit: also, Everytime you take the glass off there's a risk of it breaking.)

Start scrolling to the store that takes another 10 seconds for the menus to load

137 fucking gigs?! ill guess ill just delete a fifth of my library to fit this stupid clone of something i loved 10 years ago.

You know what microsoft fuck you ill just go back to my pc then. Why does it have to be a hassle to play vidya? The OG xbox had a very nice and easy to use interface where everything was in a neat textmenu. Then came xbox 360 and it had some refinements such as pictures and some animations. Then came the xbox one and its pants on head retarded interface. Why cant i customise it to speed up the console? I dont need a fucking mixer, community tab or a gamepass tab. All i need is games, settings and the store. They have had 7 years to fix it and they havent done shit. Whats wrong with a slick switch style interface? Not to talk about all the fucking bloatware this console contains.

"to the cloud"
Cloud computing is a terrible idea. Companies hosting the data can take it down or go out of business for any or no reason at all. Not to mention you need to keep a working internet service.

It can be annoying when people say offline storage (USB, SD, etc) is going out because cloud.

Want to check if there's an update for your games?
Wait 1 minute while the console checks with MS servers and eats all the bandwidth.
I wish there was a way to disable Mixer and the Gamepass tabs.

I think it's time for the industry to change the way they deliver the games. There's no reason for these new games to take that much space, especially on console. People should be able to save hard drive space by only downloading the language packs that they need. Ubisoft does that on PC.

I miss physical media being the norm and I wish laptops and desktops still came with disc drives so you could burn CD's and DVD's.
I built a desktop recently. It's a mid-tower so it's a big one, and yet the case I got for it doesn't have the room for a CD drive. I hate this because it feels restrictive, but it's the norm now with mid-towers, especially the more affordable ones. It sucks. I could get an external drive, but that's inconvenient and it's bizarre to me that I'd need to buy something like that for an all-purpose machine like a PC.

I especially hate this for laptops because I miss being able to watch DVDs on them. I remember when I was younger I would take my mother's laptop to watch movies on long car trips. I can't even do that with my current one because apparently taking out the disk drive reduces weight and size but that's a lousy excuse for taking away a useful feature. I don't know anyone that is happy with this change and yet it's the norm now to just not have a drive.

Other trends I hate are smartphones
I'm seriously considering getting a cheap flip phone for my next phone because I swear my smartphone has destroyed my attention span and I fucking hate it.

fucking vinyl of all things made a comeback solely because of pretentious hipster audiophiles.
I'm of two minds about this because on the one hand I genuinely like vinyl. Not because I'm an audiophile but because there's this mystique about listening to music on this giant disc that had the music basically scratched into it. It's the same reason I watch VHS tapes now that I think about it. It evokes a certain mood when I listen to it. That and I like the giant cases because the cover art is often more detailed than what you'd see on a CD case.

Unlike VHS tapes though, vinyl has become unreasonably expensive. The other week I bought Slayer's Reign in Blood and the damn thing cost $30. Reign in Blood is a short album, it's not even 30 minutes in length so why in the hell is it $30? There were Metallica albums that were twice as long in that store that cost less than that. I still can't wrap my head around it. What sucks is that it actually rose in price over the past year; I remember getting records for like $20 but now it's closer to $30.

This thread is really hitting me in the feels.

I still buy all my console vidya in physical form. Digital only games irritate me to no end. As dumb as it sounds a game being digital exclusive can sometimes be a deal breaker for me, and I've passed on games that I might have actually bought if there were a physical way to do so.

I'd buy PC games on disc too if that was still a thing. I have a love/hate relationship with Steam. Even I admit the benefits of it far outweigh my autistic need to have things neatly organized on a shelf next to my desk, but still.

Amazon has a downloadable version with all the expansions.

Enjoy. Don't kill the guests with deathcoasters

When in doubt, try Amazon.

The reason vinyl made a comeback was because of compression. Vinyl audio isn't as compressed. For audiophiles, this is heaven. For the average person, it doesn't mean much.

I miss compact phones. 5" was the golden ratio.

Even these narrow and tall designs try to pass off as large screens and all it does is fuck with verticality. The Redmi Go and Moto E5 are very usable and keep things modern enough as to not screw you on the software side two years in.

I need my phone to make calls, that is the priority.

If I need to text someone, I will send an email if it is important.

If I need to take a high quality picture, I have a separate, better camera to do that with.

If I need to heavily utilize the internet, I will use my PC.

This is not to say that that these capabilities are completely unwelcome.

But to have these features come at the cost of sidelining the development of better audio calls is a travesty.

Then you have the cost, I don't need a top of the line equipment on my new phone, because I have a dedicated device which will do it better anyway.

Something I do not miss however, is the high pitched scream that the CRT monitors put out. Many people don't seem to be able to hear it, but I can. It really was unpleasant.
