Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

I'm angry at how fucking slow Skype can be; Get this, I can send an SMS message to someone all the way in Europe or Asia, it'll be sent in seconds right away just using my data. Go to use Skype to contact people from around the globe, save money at the expense of the message getting to someone by the time it's been a whole Godfather trilogy. To add on, the pajeets keep adding updates to Skype that have nothing to do with remedying this problem (interface changes, small patches for hardly encountered issues, QOL patches for their distant family to scam old people.) I hate Skype and I'm looking for an alternative, something that doesn't feel as old as the tap water that comes out my sink and works flawlessly.

This and the fact they give off small amounts of radiation, having one on you all the time is a health hazard
Are you one of those people who sees the word "radiation" and has an autistic meltdown because you have no idea of the difference between ionising and non-ionising, or between radiation and radioactivity? Sunlight is "radiation". Radio waves are "radiation". The heat emitted by your body is "radiation". The thing they have in common with cell phone emissions is that they're all electromagnetic waves radiating from a source. Unless your phone is emitting gamma rays, or multi-gigawatt terrahertz em, it's no more dangerous than standing next to a microwave oven.

The weight of cars in general, and not just EVs, have become extremely overbloated and obese, that it makes you wonder if bridge collapses will happen in the future, because of the increased weight on cars. One extreme example of this is the newly revealed BMW M5, which has an added hybrid system, that makes the car tip the scales at almost 5400 lbs, which is 1100+ lbs heavier than the last generation M5. It's so obese, that it's shocking how some cars, i.e. the Tesla Model X Plaid, are actually lighter than this pig.

I miss my bluetooth mouse.
I don't know how I lost it specifically, but I've got it narrowed down to about half of my home, and it sporadically turns on and I'll notice my laptop go "suchandsuch bt mouse deactivated" when it turns off from no usage.

Did you look under couch cushions and the couch itself

Some auto makers have put HVAC controls into their own dedicated screen, below the main infotainment screens, but that screams as looking cheap. The 2025 Infiniti QX80 is one example of this, and the 2025 Audi RS Q8 is another example:

The other crime about the new QX80, is that the V8 was replaced by a Twin-Turbo V6 instead. Auto makers seem to love to kill off V8s, for Turbo V6s that are less reliable and have VERY slightly better fuel economy, because of stupid reasons such as tightening CARB requirements, and increased taxes on larger engine displacement cars in countries such as China. Toyota getting rid of their V8s to replace them with their Twin-Turbo V6 has also bit them in the ass hard, as the current-gen Lexus LS500 has seen numerous reports of excessive oil consumption, piston failures, and even complete engine failures. The failures with that engine have gotten so bad, that Toyota had to recall the new Tundra and Lexus LX, which also use that same engine.
HVAC being tied to a computer and not just a simple knob is a way to ensure the car will be worthless when it dies on its secret pre-determined programmed death date. You could deal without music and GPS, you have your phone anyway, but HVAC dying means the car will test how much you can bear in the high season of summer and winter. This is done so you le buy it again every 3 years. They skirt the laws and have bullshit in there where they only need to support your car until their supply of parts runs out.

Anyone who disagrees, you are REALLY going to tell me that you can buy a chinese android tablet for $20 but the car companies can't make a bluetooth button then make an app so that you can get any android tablet to control your car if the touchscreen computer in it dies.

I kinda miss when the new trend was GUIs looking photorealistic.

(then again a photorealistic UI could use more system resources)
I remember being in the OS X 10.5 era and wishing for a glassy UI that would show real-time reflections using a camera.
I realize now what a mistake that would be privacy-wise. But I still think it could look pretty sweet.

Also thought those old Amazon(?) phones that had 3D parallax using cameras was a pretty cool effect (but, you know, Amazon).

Have you tried not being poor?
The Sony phones still have MicroSD and 3.5mm jacks.

I do wish they had a 16:10 or so instead of the 21:9
I might have to get one. I got a new phone a month ago (the old one was 8 years old) and decided against getting a warranty. I dropped it face flat on the concrete after 2 weeks and broke the screen. It still works so I've just been rocking a broken screen but I think people might find that a bit trashy and I've been getting cuts on my thumb from swiping over the broken glass.

"Password cannot be one of the previous 24 utilised passwords." while also as has been said, having a length limit to prevent you from using a passphrase.
In effect, there will be a very large number of people with CompanyNameSeasonYear! as their password.
I had a job like that. My password was bulletproof the first time out. Then I found out I had to change it twice a month and the cool down period was six months (12 passwords). My password immediately became the cutesy couples nickname of my girlfriend, the number 1, and an @. The number incrementer every time I was forced to pick a new password. Fuck that shit.

What u gonna do? Switch to a smaller service?
Thats basically the world of business software. Once you go with a particular piece of software youre locked into forever because the cost it would take to get the data out then into another system, train your 100+ employees on the new system AND the downtime you would have from all that makes it impossible to switch.
No it still struggles with basic math and struggles to remember what I said two messages prior. I'll be impressed when it takes the entire conversation into consideration instead of acting like and add sped who needs to be reminded about things constantly
Not just that but theyre way too formulaic for anything abstract. No matter how many times I tell chatgpt to write me a short story involving discord and characters fighting with each other it ALWAYS ends the story with the characters coming together with an amicable resolution. To get it to do anything else I have to hold its hand to get it there.

Then that doesnt begin to deal with the endless issues of idiotic leftist morality limiting the responses it can generate.
Preaching to the choir, friend. I've pointed this out several times, and it's always fallen on deaf ears. To their (minimal) credit, they are trying to convince people now to use passphrases instead of passwords, but the problem with that is some older systems (and sites) don't actually accept longer passwords.
There are some really ancient motherfuckers in the world who positively refuse to accept reality.

Previous job the system admin for the company set windows passwords to expire every month. No matter how much I tried explaining to him and showing him how dumb that was he refused to listen.

Auto makers have been making "Off-Road" trims of CUVs, but they're just the bare minimum, with just different wheels and tires, and a roof rack. The revealed 2025 Nissan Altima Rock Creek Edition is one example of this:

Literally the only things different are the visual stuff, as in seats, front grille, tires and wheels, and the roof rack. So no actual off-road additions such as locking differentials, underbody protection, improved suspension, etc. It also still has the same wimpy 1.5T 3 Cylinder with CVT drivetrain that regular Rogues have.
