Feedback Technical Grievances

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I'm loving all these bug reports for shit that've been around for aeons that people only seem to care about now that they can assume it's my fault.
I didn't assume it was your fault. The bug may be very old, but I mentioned it because I'd never seen it before.

Not a grievance but did you change the font for titles in the thread menu? It seems easier to read.
I changed their templates so they're effective the same as the thread lists when you actually open a forum, which I probably have styled a bit for clarity in the past. I've never really paid attention to the What's New and Watched pages in the past because I know where to find all the threads I like looking at, but since people had complained it's hard to find things I've been actively trying to use them more to see what improvements can be made.

Did the 3 extra pages of new posts you could access at the bottom "what's new" go away? I can't access them today.

How were you able to reply to a forum post from 7 minutes in the future? Is this another technical glitch?
If you go back in your browser history and your browser loads from cache, then the timestamp of your cache will be used to calculate timestamps. If you load in a new post with an old timestamp, it will calculate the timestamp as being in the future. This is another bug that is 10+ years old, and is innate in XenForo.

Or it could be because my reply was merged with my previous post for some reason. That is what I figured he was meaning, not the timestamp being at fault.

That makes sense. It wasn't primarily the timestamps that caught my eye, but that the posts were out of order (the reply being above the post replied to).

Regarding a video upload bug that I've seen come up a few times, I just wanted to share what did and did not work for me in case it's ever needed:

Problem: Video file claims to be uploaded but cannot be inserted or saved to a draft, no matter how small.
Browser: Brave (will work for the first few videos, then stops working).

Page refresh: Did not work.
Clearing the cache: Did not work.
VPN Off: Did not work.
TOR browser: Did not work.
Firefox: Did work.

As much as I hate Firefox, the loading was pretty darn fast.

I'm curious as to what's causing the loading of attachments to take forever, it's a problem I've seen you experience while doing your streams. It's not your internet, it does it on mine, too. Do you know what's causing it or how to fix it?

What causes video uploads to end up like this after the upload finishes? The issue is that files without thumbnails can't be embedded and disappear when the page is refreshed.

Re-encoding with the ffmpeg settings in here doesn't fix it. The files sometimes start to work after a random amount of time or repeated uploads too, so they weren't incompatible to begin with.

Sometimes they get stuck at 100% like this too.

YouTube imbeds have been broken for a while now, but now the thumbnail doesn’t even show up:

Alerts are broken and don't work correctly how they should. I know reaction pings were removed, but even when people reply to your posts you don't get a single notification about it nor does it update on your alerts. Null if you wanna stay adamant on the removal of reactions at least fix this issue.

Not sure if this is a known issue but I'm running into an issue where I can't quote or reply to specific users or articles - the option to do so is greyed out. Another user was having this issue with my account here.
It's disabled at a certain length of post, you can instead highlight the specific text you want to quote.

would it be possible to increase the amount of time that the forum tracks your last spot in a thread? sometimes life just gets kind of busy and i'm not able to read a thread for a while and then when i come back i click on the thread and i'm taken to the first page instead of my last spot. i don't know exact numbers but it kind of seems like after 2-3 weeks my spot is lost in the thread

i checked through the account preferences and didn't see any options on my end for this time limit

I believe it's either 30 days or 1 month.
