Tekken 8

I don’t know if it’s the shitty state of the game or the fact that I despise every single character in this season so far, but this just gets no reaction from me.

I’m so fucking tired.

Most people's reaction to Fuckyourmum had been mid to outright recoiling in disgust, because like Elena in Ultra Street Fighter 4, people associated him and Leroy as the cancers that ruin Tekken 7 in a significant way.

It doesn't help that he's too overdesigned. Tattoos AND scars, for example, are just overkill and no one can make out what the messy goop on his body actually is as a result.

Even Armor King didn't feel like or resemble Armor King, and he was only in Fuckyourmom's trailer for 10 seconds (Why is he breathing fire?). Nothing about Tekken 8 feels or looks like Tekken. I don't even want to see what they do to someone else like Julia or Alex.

Well I don't want to be the "Actually, the data says ☝️🤓" guy but that's a hidden move in 7 where you could breathe fire after a ki charge, nothing really useful during a real match, it was just a nice little hidden move you could show your friends. However, knowing T8 I can almost bet he's going to be breathing fire all over the place with so many particle effects it's going to be complete cancer.

Saying this as an Armor King "main" aka I played mostly AK during 5DR with my friends and 7. After the initial little jolt of happiness, I started to get worried knowing 8 is the game he's coming back to (again as a DLC, no less) and that its the same shitty gameplay with the god awful heat system and the terrible, terrible microtransactions. So yeah, not super hyped about this.

My bet is that they’re going to make his rage drive from 7 an install/heat gimmick like they’ve done for everyone else. Guaranteed, unbreakable throws seems really on-brand for them at this point.

Doesn't matter how hype the characters if the game sucks. I'm way more interested to know the balance changes than a character that would be hype in training before I get offense looped online.

Going back to 7, I can see why Fahk would be really annoying. While maybe not as egregious, its like attaching Claudio's armorbreak to a bunch of strings. They are at least wall needed guardbreaks, but T8 has no infinite stages and wall carry is a bit too high, and that's not even including if they become the other guardbreaks where you get a guaranteed follow-up. I do appreciate now that bound made some sense, and I could at least do some basic combo just from what I knew, while in T7 figuring out the screw moves was mostly just checking the movelist. Is a bit annoying seeing all the content that got reused in 8 such as the deer head. Considering they are using the same engine I just wish they'd port over a bunch without all the hassle, but I guess that's just not business these days. I can see why there's a lot of nostalgia for it right now, but I think it doesn't hold up as well as some of the other entries. Same will probably happen to T8 unto eternity because the players are always on the latest entry and a fighting game often sucks without players.

For Armor King, it does feel like it was something they rushed to draw in hype. I don't mind the fire considering its something that happens in wrestling, but will have to see if there's worse. As long as he's not awful to fight I won't mind, and it will be a while before we have any idea.

He's going to be a 50/50 mixup stance character with an install for no reason like Heihachi, with homing throws because why not. I'll probably try it for a week then uninstall the game again and go back to playing Infinite Wealth.

New Patch is out.

Much like last patch, not really any negative changes, but still quite minimal. This time its Heat Smashes don't track if the first move whiffs. Some other small changes that were fine. There is another patch in a month, but considering its supposed to be about Rage Art frame data and buffs to certain characters, don't expect anything to really change. Afterwards, no major patch until after the Tekken World Tour. Maybe they will at least do some patching in the off season rather than just taking a break this time, but I doubt it with the glacial pace of updating things that matter.

Basically, come back in a year and check when S3 comes out. Who knows, S2 introduced a bunch of garbage, maybe S3 could miraculously undo a lot. Probably not, but one can hope.

Saw some 4chud whine that "digging yourself out of a hole you made yourself" shouldn't be celebrated. I've only ever wanted to play Anna in tekken and her face heralded the downfall of T8. Almost satirical at this point, but hey maybe T8 will see a second wind 5 years down the line the same way T7 did.

Certainly the only hope its got.

We’re getting a new character today, and a balance patch with him. The devs also said that this will be the last patch for a long time due to them not wanting to fuck with the game while big esports shit is happening. I know I’ve given up at this point.
They had a stream about this on Sunday night. To sumarize the train wreck:
  • Kicks off with another collab a la Karate Kid, but it's for some anime game Bamco is releasing. The collab gives you a shirt and a blue slime for your customization, and the anime game gets a Reina skin and a fight with a slime that looks like Heihachi.
  • The Pacman stage's a giant clusterfuck
  • They have a 10 minute segment on Fuckyourmom and how they designed him for Tekken 8, something nobody asked for. It was pretty bad.
  • They replayed Fuckyourmom's trailer twice, before and after they showed him as a p2w character. You can't make this shit up.
  • More costumes for the Cash shop, and for some reason the tits on the female models look smaller despite the bikinis (something about the swimwear skins looked off, but I could be wrong)
  • The stream ends with Murray pushing shitty, overpriced Tekken 8 merchandise.
They know people aren't happy with Fuckyourmom let alone the rest of the disc-locked character roster because no other character got this much attention as Fuckyourmom. Mike Hollow and some other guy noticed Murray looked depressed during the stream. They're thinking Bamco might pull a Woke Kombat 1 soon.

The Tekken collabs are funny because so far all the collabs in T8 are ass. At least its not just the T-shirt with jpg + make the times square stage look terrible. I know people were hyped up due to the promo art that at least there would be an outfit, but I guess only the Atelier game devs go through the effort. It was funny noticing that the Atelier game only had 100 active players when the talk was happening, so I bet it was an attempt to give it a boost in sales.

Fahk is pretty clearly Murray's passion project, yet they screwed up the gameplay enough that everyone hates him. Wouldn't be surprised that Murray is down because of that. I do appreciate the authenticity, but authentic moves don't make a character enjoyable, else people would love Eddy's new incarnation. From the little we've seen he seems less cancer, but guardbreak into cutscene may get tiring quick. I don't mind the camera angles, but it takes a bunch of time. I imagine they might have S3 to fix things, but if that doesn't get results then they might just pull the plug. Makes sense too, since I think the PS6 is coming out in a few years so they could prep T9 for being a launch title.

We technically can't be sure, but they've said the patch contains some behavior buffs and rage art changes. I can see them making rage arts more negative, since they got buffed with the +20 health. Based on previous patches, they might fix one character, with the issue being that almost every character needs some nerfs right now. My guess is the patch will:
-Give some buffs to Lee and DVJ (because Lee players are vocal and bamco doesn't get its because of his identity being destroyed, and the "nerf DVJ" meme)
-Do some slight nerfs that don't really change anything, maybe some small ones to Anna
-Make RA's more negative (possibly punishable by RA?)
I do hope the game gets better but unless some miracle happens and they pushed all the fixes to this patch and didn't feel like talking about it, it isn't happening this season. A bit sad since it's mostly just guessing and heat, which isn't as funny as obvious missteps as base T7 giving Bryan a launching CH hatchet.

With the track record the Tekken team has for S2 so far, this might be actually fun to watch. Its going to be absolutely fucked. :story:

It's basically a failed live service project at this point. Kekken 8 is fucking dead.

Patch is out. I'm sure I will surprise everyone when I say it was almost exactly as expected.

Rage arts now -18, so completely universal launch now I believe.
Anna lost some frame advantage.
Asuka no longer has a safe RA, charge is -13.
Clive got some nerfs.
Devil Jin got some buffs.
Zafina nerfed.
Many behavior changes, mostly to stop those clips where someone hits behind themselves.

So basically, nothing much. Makes plenty sense that they didn't want to show it. Check back with Season 3, clearly this is how S2 is supposed to be played. Hopefully things get at least a little better then. I imagine there will only be patches if any of the DLC characters are abhorrent, otherwise suffer. Idk how Fahk is, but he's probably the least of the game's problems.

Bears got buffed, I guess (they whiff less). It's like they didn't care whether or not this doomed the game at all.

Why? Isn't he considered a boss character?
He has that reputation because most of the games he's in, he is top tier. Though that is not the case for T8. He was pretty decent at the start, but got overnerfed so he was kinda meh. It was a meme that he would get nerfed while other characters get away with murder. Of course, some would argue he shouldn't be good since his design in T8 is pretty annoying. Now he's got a 14f WS launcher, so he's definitely better (especially because so many OP lows are -14 for some reason).

I wouldn't be surprised if they expected S2 to be cheered for, or at least expand the game. Getting universal revilement probably stunned them pretty hard. It is pretty sad they are pulling out everything except fixing the game, from fan-favorite AK and swimsuits for fanservice. Maybe they really want people to like the gameplay in attempt to get more new players and hoping old players just accept it, but I doubt new players (or spectators) enjoy repeatable guessing situations. I guess SF6 kept throw loops for a reason so maybe that's what casuals crave I guess, or at least what companies think they want.

I don't know if I should trust the swede, he said the same thing about Clive and he was insufferable with his 16 frame mid that was safe, homing, heat engager and long range (until market analysis probably told them he's not selling anymore so they brought him down to a more normal state)

Its a bit hard to say since its only been a day or two, but in comparison to some of the other characters he doesn't seem that bad. Rama stance (the guard break stance) is pretty annoying, but some of its current power is because people aren't used to it. The unblockable is about 40f, so it should be reactable once people know about it. One of his mid options is +1 which is annoying, but comparing it to Lidia's H&E where she's +6 and Fahk has a lot of slower tools makes it less egregious. He's pretty linear, and I'm not sure how good his homing options are when not mid-string.

I do think "weak" is a bit overblown. While the i15 df1 is certainly a nerf, he still has 3 for an i13 mid that has follow-ups. His 3 even has enough range that he can punish moves many others can't, like Bryan's 3+4. It seems like he gets a bunch of extra options for having his install, but getting his install is pretty easy + its a game with heat. His jet kick having reversal break also means he completely craps on Jack with King having a little trouble too. He's got a low with a fakeout mid, and the mid is +2 on block. He still seems pretty strong, but it was probably expected for him to be busted. I don't think he needs buffs at least. Probably also helps that he's at least a bit less cancer than in T7 (a lot less options from df1) and people are pleasantly surprised that Fahk of all characters got improved in DLC, while at least Eddie/Lidia/Anna seemed to be changed for the worse. At the very least it sounds like playing Fahk is fun, but who knows for playing against him.

I agree with MainMan when it comes to characters that are too strong, Hwo and Bryan are pretty crazy right now, but saying he's weak is like calling current Drag weak just because he's not top 5 right now (tho pls buff his qcb2 thx).
