Lol, watching Harada fight for his life on Twitter against the audience Tekken has courted. Good.

I hope they keep demanding dumb things that don’t matter, crying over shit that matters even less than that, and stressing him out. I feel sorry for Japanese people on one hand because I know their culture ill-prepared them for the modern West virus, but on the other hand, man the fuck up. These types should never be taken seriously, or really even tolerated.

Meanwhile Azucena......Bitch should have been Christie. What the fuck was even the point with Azucena?
I guess now that Eddie got changed for the worse they could bring back Christie, but I really doubt we'll see her out of Tag games now. They want the diverse fighting sets, and having two capoeira goes against that, and modern Bamco is too greedy to just put in an echo for fun. Azucena isn't too bad now besides her personality being "coffee" at least. I've seen some people want Josie back, but I haven't seen any for Katarina.

that's why they hired Murray

Tbf I only mentioned her because I just remembered she existed.

Anyway, some people are theorizing that the new African girl is some kind of Ogre girl because of the shackles around her ankles are vaguely reminiscent of the shackles around Ancient Ogre's ankles. Appearently she has red eyes becuase "it's part of her backstory" according to Harada.

And since she can "copy the moves of animals" or some shit, she's Ogre since his fighting style is an amalgamation of other characters' moves. What, is Mokujin also Ogre then?

Apparently, Harada also said there's more than one Ogre for each continent. This is all second-hand information someone told me, so take it with a giant mountain of salt. I certainly am, and I don't care enough to look into it because it sounds way too retarded for me to bother.

Then again, Tekken's story and lore have been retarded since T6, so who the fuck even knows.

I guess I've been abused so much that I'll take anything if it just moves the stupid plot along beyond the Family Dispute.

Reasoning is that:
Animal moves, Ogre had animal moves. Quite weak since there's stuff like Bryan's snake edge or Zafina's tarantula stance, and she's probably not related to them.
Red eyes which is unique, though I guess she could be half Armor King.
The shackles have the same design as Ogre's tattoo, which is probably the most concrete.

It would be neat, but I imagine strike some controversy since "wow madagascar wasn't interesting enough so u connected her to ogre??" At the moment though, it seems like a bunch of people are trying to get them to change her to look more like the concept art, which admittedly wouldn't be too hard. As long as she's fun and not stance mixup character #40, I wont complain too much. Though that is probably too optimistic.

Harada and Murray had it coming.

Tekken 6 is still the best looking Tekken game. Nobody can change my mind on that. Every character looked unique, the art style was great, and everything was way more grounded. I actually do like the concept art of that girl, but the outcome looks atrociously generic.
It had the best cosmetics and special custom items for every character. I'd rather take Vanilla 5 over 6.

I know some (including me) are a bit hopeful Mary Sue has ties to Ogre with the red eyes and shackles. Will see though.
Please don't jinx it. I don't want Ogre to be ruined by this character.

She is cute but wtf, why do they hate Christie so much? And Poor Josie too.

Katarina? Hello? Any of your fuckers you dumped on us in your last damn game?

Minus Lucky Chloe of course?
Josie, Katarina, and Chloe were hated by the playerbase. Chloe was a fuck you to Eddy players for some reason, and Christie was done very dirty. At least she did something with the Mishimas in the main story (Just to sell more coffee). What was the purpose of Chloe? If she was some kind of troll who fucked over the everybody, I could understand why she's annoying, but she did jack shit out of pissing off Eddy players.

According to Harada, Tekken 3 already had it out that there was an Ogre for every landmass essentially. So something dumb like that was probably going to happen eventually based on Tekken's pretty iffy writing. Would much prefer we just got Ogre, but I am curious enough to see how silly it goes. I do know some theorized Ogre was coming out since he got a new model, so unfortunately the dots are lining up a bit.

I did take a look at Josie, she'd fit into T8 with her +OB into stance moves, which is pretty funny if she was unpopular then. They should've taken surveys then, could've avoided issues now.

Look at this shit. Look at it. Two pajeets street shitters in a mirror match for the Evo Grand finals. I mean its almost poetic that they're playing with a character like Anna, with how rapey pakistanis are.

What the heck is going on with Tekken??

Is this supposed to be a poorly timed pause, or this really how they made Asuka’s head in relation to the rest of her body?

Between the comedic proportions and how some do the “no, my waifu” thing with Asuka, who IMO was never really about being eye candy, I feel like I’m being punk’d or something.

I will say that while Arslan's whole "get Bryan nerfed because he can't play him" is pretty stupid, I guess he's a waifu player through and through.

Yes, the character models are pretty poor. Asuka's neck is a commonly complained thing, as well as "all the women characters look the same!" While its commonly used as a request for a woman character like SF6 Marissa (ew), the character models all look quite similar. Just look at all the male characters torsos, they look identical. So yes, there is a model issue.

Some other examples of character laziness, outside reused content, is the collabs (jpg t-shirt, or a strand of hair), swimsuits being only a texture difference outside maybe Lee and Lili, and (IMO) 2 of the stages being mostly a change in background (stratosphere/fallen destiny, story related but still took a stage slot), Vagabond hood requiring a plain t-shirt which isn't changeable, etc.

Also Armor King's new stance (ofc) is called Bad Jaguar, which is a bit of an unfortunate name. Hopefully he's fun at least, the trailer looked pretty neat with all the heel stuff.

Genuinely no clue what they were thinking with that name for the stance lmao. Laziest name they've ever given to a move/stance imo. Did they think mfs were gonna be like "Yeah bro, can't wait to mix people in ranked with AK's new BJ stance!" They should've had him get down on his knees as well to really complete the mental image that the name "BJ stance" gives. I thought they were gonna name it something like "Pantera stance".

Probably Japanese literal naming and I guess they just left it in English. Bit funny nobody saw an issue though.
Just saw this thread, have no inclination to play Tekken 8, looks like ass. just came in here to say Christie is better than Eddy even though Bandai fucking hate her for some reason. and Tekken Four is the last good Tekken and the best one.
I don't think Christie is popular, alongside her just being an Eddy clone, so why not just make Eddy. Also, what's your issue with T5? I like T4 (especially since it was my first) but most like everything with the game except the gameplay.

They changed up the new character's face, and supposedly Asuka is going to finally get her neck. Nice changes at least.

I finally got around to pirating T8 just to play the campaign and see if it's worth buying. I'm on the fence, I think I'll continue sticking with Tag 2 or 7 when I get the odd chance for local multiplayer, but I can take or leave online play anyhow because it wasn't a thing until I was an adult and I never really put in the time to learn how to properly compensate for the way lag throws off your timing. Not a fan of getting jewed repeatedly with season passes, online passes, certain updates, and especially microtransactions just to use a lackluster customization mode, either. I'm good just fooling around with offline content on a pirated copy and installing mods for now, but if I get more into it I'll reconsider if I think I can get my money's worth.

The amount of salty bitching on the Tekken reddit had me half expecting it to be a nearly unplayable mess but that isn't true. It's a pretty fun game. I don't love all the roster changes (two bears and no Changs? Bullshit) or new aesthetic choices, but I can't complain too much, they at least included the option to use legacy characters' 7 costumes as presets (very much appreciated) and at the end of the day if what I really want is to play Tag 2 or 7 over again then I can just do that. The customization options mostly suck and the character endings don't have much to them, but both improved on 7, the campaign certainly did, and virtually nobody buys Tekken for the single player content anyway so from a business perspective it would be retarded to repeat the mistakes that made Tag 2 a huge commercial failure. I don't mind the heat system, it's fun in a party game kind of way, and helps strike a decent balance between rewarding skill but not having too intimidating a learning curve for newcomers to the series. They seem to have gotten rid of the 2D characters, all of whom I hated, so good fucking riddance. I only just now realized Katarina and Azucena weren't the same character. Tekken Ball Mode beats the hell out of bowling. Far too many gay zoomer haircuts. Idk

Is Tekken 8 worth picking up? Don't have much experience in fighting games, but it looked fun.
If you are into single player content, I'd also recommend one of the previous, either T5 or T6. T8 does have some single player content that's okay, but its certainly not the draw.

Online in T8 can be pretty fun if you are new, since a good amount of issues aren't apparent and most play it like a complete 2d fighter early on. Would recommend waiting for a sale at least though. The one nice thing is a decent amount of things carry over, so playing an old Tekken gives you a general idea (T6, TTT2, T7, and T8 all have pretty similar combo structure). Despite the issues, its still probably the 2nd best fighting game to get into, due to at least having a playerbase and passable netcode (SF6 has the biggest playerbase and best netcode as far as I'm aware) .

You can technically play online with T7 but the load times are very bad and late T7 had a bunch of issues too. It is cheap on sale and doesn't require emulation at least though.
I'm a bit confused. Woke is dead because they made a female face less generic? Its not like she looked transgender before. For the "its a bug" bit, either they were lazy and made all the faces/bodies the same, or they were lazy and took a year and complaints to fix a bug, and both look pretty bad.

I think the negativity is a mix of modern internet doomsaying as well as people just really passionate about Tekken, since things like the movement are appealing.

I'd say one of the reasons Tag 2 failed was due to poor single player content. Casuals likely saw it, saw that it looked the same as T6 with no campaign, and decided against it (alongside other factors like being a late-gen game). I do think Tag 2 failing has had some terrible ramifications for the franchise, such as swapping to UE and probably making Nakatsu cater to casuals way too hard after failing when only catering to the hardcore audience.

Seeing SF6 drive does make me think that heat could be salvaged, at least for T8. Its currently a bit brainless, but add in some defensive bits or interaction and it could at least be passable. Heck, constant stance pressure could be alleviated if they gave more of them option selects, like Hei's FFF1+2 or Yoshi's 3~4 being crouch jab and jab interruptible for all options.
