Harada is now a part of a studio under SNK, called VS Studio.

Welp, I was wrong on him retiring. Probably a mix of being stuck with Tekken and lack of freedom to do anything but oversee the project. I'll be curious how it goes, hopefully better than what Kojima's been doing. Although, will probably be 3-5 years until we hear anything so maybe it will be just in time to compete with VF6.

chinknigger goes to a sandnigger owned company. not gonna lie this kind of fits him, king of fighters is beyond cooked anyways let him destroy it further.

Murray was NOT kidding when he said there were plans for more particle effects and anime bullshit, holy fuck.

Baki's a terrible, and I mean fucking terrible choice. It's extremely silly fantasy fight garbage with just about no respect for the actual martial arts. It's good to know it's the direction they wanna go in, so people can go the other way, but it feels very deliberate at this point. Bunch of old dudes still making games rather than moving on to something more serious, productive and meaningful like corporate websites telling a bunch of pudgy out of shape middle aged gamers to move on because they're too old for games, let the fortnite zoomers and subway surfers alphas have their time in the sun.

Not to mention the fucking AI animated JPEG seems STRAIGHT out of a mobile gachaslop. Gotta keep those costs low, I guess.

Yakuza would have conveyed the message that they still had the aging fanbase in mind, but FrameWhisperer said it best right at the start of Tekken 8: We are no longer the target audience. The thing, though, is that Tekken is a VERY fucking archaic game. The controls are, objectively, shit. You have to type a 300 word essay just to backdash. There's no simple one direction and a button and cool shit happens on screen setting. You have to deal with side switching. People who are sticking around stick around because they like it. People who like systems that are hard to freaking operate at all, let alone excel at, don't want these systems to be made irrelevant so Lil' Jimmy can fucking wreck your shit in spite of the skill gap. Most the guys I know have been around since at least T4. I've seen people trying to introduce their kids and younger players and it's almost always the same observation on part of the younger gamers:

"But I can fight, about as well, with cooler animations and stuff in Red Dead 2 AND I get to ride a horse and shoot guns too! And I can melee fight in Fortnite!"

You have the old dudes unhappy that the new dudes get to just range 3 homing mid that's plus on block and then mix for free all day, and you have the new dudes unhappy that they can't move by holding a stick in a direction. Nobody's really happy.

I mean, I'm grateful they showed everything up front because now I can just at least seriously consider quitting. The DLC has been atrocious. 1 hit, 11 misses, and even charging for the one guy that was an okay addition, Armor King, was kind of a stretch. Everything else is just paying for shit we used to get for free or we already paid for or shit that actively makes the game shittier (Clive, Lidia, Gorilla Heihachi)

This season pass is an incredibly effective declaration of intent. Good luck to them chasing that zoomie audience they seem to so desperately want, but at this point the whole thing is just fucking weird. How do you do fellow kids. There is not one thing on this season pass to look forward to. Shit, if anything, it's a great "Stay the fuck away if you don't wanna deal with ranged wacky bullshit, Kangaking bullshit, and anime bullshit."

If for whatever reason they decide to give Roger Lei's Ho Step or something akin to that I might pop back in but for now I feel that's that. Ironically I've played Tekken 8 so little that I go into hiatus undefeated. At this point it just makes no sense to buy this season pass. If there is a Season 4 it'll be more recent DLC from Tekken 7 rereleased with a new pricetag.

I've been on the fence for a long time but realistically at this point I just don't want to give them money for this. First Tekken game thing I haven't bought in 30 years. Well, asides from that gameboy Advance Tekken.

At this point regarding DLCs, if they want to win back the crowd, they'd have to do something insane like pulling a Tekken 5. Bring back everyone or a substitute, bring back every style, and DLC will always be exclusively guests and new movesets. Tekken 8's tagline might as well be "Content sold separately".

Why is the tekken combo breaker tournament nothing but pakis and chinks?
Koreans would be good at anything. They nolife the craziest shit. Pakis are propped up by a lot of sponsorships and the fact that for whatever fucking reason Bamco is bending over backwards to give them characters and systems they can work with. People say Arslan's great and very based on traditional Tekken but he seems awfully mashy to me. The Jon literally can't fucking backdash and is proud of that.

And they typically play braindead stuff in the cheesiest way possible too. Anna, Nina, Clive when he was busted. In general, they've made the game wheelchair accessible so the competitive scene is full of wheelchairs, unsurprisingly.

Who else is it going to be? America has barely any players at a top level (might as well just be Shadow 20z), and EU is about the same. Of course its just going to be Pakis and Koreans. America has the excuse of being huge so practicing with other pros isn't very feasible, not sure what EU's excuse is.

Too bad 90% of Pakis play the most boring characters, though I guess Atif at least played Bryan. The final was peak T8 with Lidia, probably one of the most T8 designed characters. Kunimitsu is coming out too just to be the same kind of cancer.
I haven't been modern in a while but is it considered a good reveal to have a poorly animated jpeg as the reveal for a character that's almost a full year away?
Probably the best that could be mustered, considering all but Kunimitsu are just jpegs. I guess people are happy that its actually a martial arts character and to know what the season pass is. People also are getting overly hopeful since the last patch was actually good, not really realizing that they should probably see if it was a fluke first.

It was never going to be Yakuza, Virtua Fighter is coming out and they almost certainly will have a Yakuza character. Though from what little I've seen of the leak and prerelease footage, Virtua Fighter is going much more cinematic and all that too. Just not magic like Tekken.

Compared to some of the other Pakis, Arslan is a bit of traditional Tekken. Just, from what I've seen, he uses Nina's great strings and DF1,2 to just lockdown the opponent. Sometimes he plays other characters, but I haven't seen him have any luck with any of them in T8. He just likes swapping so he can complain Nina is dead every time they touch her at all. Also, to be fair, Rangchu seems to pick big bodies because he sucks at sidestepping, and I could've sworn Chikurin said KBD isn't really a skill necessary for T8. New players aren't good at movement, so they've gutted it.

Are you actually crying about baki being unrealistic in fucking kekken 8 of all things? And actually saying yakuza would have been a better fit?
Neck yourself faggot holy shit.

As someone who played Tekken 1-3 and then 7. I look at Tekken 8 and wonder how it's so fucking boring. Exact same poke until you can wall carry. Wall carry for 80% HP. Then hope you can do the same before they do it to you. Every combo looks identical because it has the most movement and does the most damage off the wall. It looks incredibly boring and more about abusing systems than any sort of expression. I look at how street fighter 2 and even 4 played and remember exciting matches of back and forth. Where pokes and committing meant something. I look at Tekken 8 and wonder why every single character seems to play exactly the same where the objective is to get to a wall and hope you predict the roll direction.

Tekken doesn't need to be constant spammy side steps. But all these new game focused on rage or burst meters so "you can get hyped" when it kicks in during an esports match is so uninteresting. Fuck marvel and all the fags who want every game to be marvel. There's nothing interesting about super long combos. The footsy game is where all the interest is and Tekken 8 seems to have very little worth watching from what I saw in this tournament.

Tekken was at one point on par with street fighter in popularity. Maybe bigger. If all you can get is third world monkeys you seriously fucked up some where.

DLC? Lol. Paying for characters you used to unlock for free. Roger and Kunimitsu were tekken unlocks on the PS1. And now you pay 10 bucks to get them months apart and a stage. Fighting games are worse than gachas. Gachas at least give you free spins to get lucky and don't gatekeep 20 year old characters behind a season pass.
