Tencent (chinese government) political oppression in gaming

hey I didn't see a Tencent megathread or a HQ for posting Tencent related political activity in company aquisitions so I thought i'd go ahead and make a place holder or dump thread where you can post information on people and games being directly influenced by Chinese Corporate agents.

more from the thread https://kiwifarms.net/threads/blizzard-bans-people-who-shit-talk-the-chinese-government.62060/

with the current situation in Hong Kong evolving into a West/East Freedom/Suppression Communism/Capitalism battle for hearts and minds I think this subject has real relevance into what we do with our personal time and space.
our activities for fun (gaming or media or what ever) are being bought up by foreign entities that then seek to change our perceptions through sometimes blatantly oppressive "policies" or "codes of conduct" that are simply tools to isolate voices of dissent and punish anyone who they don't agree with.

here is a reference from Plebbit regarding a recent Tencent purchase and the activities of the staff regarding discussion of Hong Kong in game https://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexil...ne_else_suddenly_worried_about_ggg_censoring/

I wouldn't worry about Tencent! They're only interested and invest in like; "search engines, retail, videogames, real estate, software, VR, uber-type shit, banking and financial services, consumer tech, computer tech, cars, film production, movie ticketing, music production, SpaceX2:Asian Boogaloo, natural resources, smartphones, big data (Complex Data Sets), farms, medicine, cloud computing, Social media, IT, advertising, streaming, AI, robotics, UAVs, food delivery, courier services, audio books, Internet services, EDUCATION and green energy."

Sounds completely TRUE & HONEST, especially for a chinese company, to own everything! Oh, and don't forget their other technology development unit tencent technology (shenzhen) co Ltd.
Fuckin' zipperhead bukake cake of a 'Chinese' or "eastern" *wink wink* approach to shit as well.

Video games are for exceptional individuals.
i agree vidya is a huge waste of time, some games can help you build skills such as decision making and planning but thats beside the point.
the main idea for this thread was Chinese interference in your daily lives through the media.
not saying when you're watching TV or playing Vidya or doing something recreational you ALWAYS want to sperg about hong kong or reference winnie the pooh (a serious offence in china)

but should companies be able to invoke EULA/ToS/Codes of Conduct to simply make you shut up?
I understand "freedom of speech" is a real big meme and that what you say has consequences, but when you silence people for petty reasons or silence people to further nefarious goals then what options are you leaving people with?
You had Nassim go shoot up youtube for fucking with her content for ambiguous reasons.
hell if you WANT to trigger autists to go shoot up company HQ's then yea this is a great way to push unstable people over the edge.

this gaming subreddit for the company Tencent bought out is full of outraged plebbitors (usa seems to be the main group who are posting)
there is an interesting "war" going on between people up voting/down voting and commenting. I would say they were Chinese agents or paid shills but there is clear evidence of manipulation happening in what is purported to be a crowd sourced media platform

Worthy of a megathread. Plan to see many more stories about so-and-so banned from something or other game for pissing off commie chinks.

somewhat related, a "hong kong protester role playing game" was suspended from googleplay for violating TOS.

the strongest line of argument seems to be that the game attempts to capitalize on a tragic event/conflict, but 80% of the money goes to legal funds for arrested protesters, so.....

edit: thread might enjoy a snappier title. just "Chinese political influence in gaming" or "Chinese influence in gaming" or something

For games where the Chinese players share the same game client as the rest of the world, sometimes they censor the global client in order to satisfy the Chinese requirements. I used to play this game that had some nicely done, historically accurate Republic of China-themed skins, but when the game client got Red Chinese servers, they deleted all the Republic of China skins and replaced them with these ugly, unhistorical Red Chinese skins.

Very odd. They previously recognized the blue sun flag as a national symbol of historical significance. Guess they're going all in on CPP being the Chinese nation.

As a gamer and somebody that doesn't give two hoots about Honkey Kong, I don't feel oppressed.

If you want to engage in personal political activism using various games as a platform, you're ruining it for the rest of us.

Most visited site by Chinese in China; Sun Yat Sen Mosoleum.

Symbology only becomes taboo and is blocked if it is used by activists for an agenda on an unrelated platform. Neither winnie the poop, the Kuomintang or their flag are banned on the mainland.

Seats for Political Parties (536 in all)
From the founder of the Republic and first president of Kuomintang himself: The Three Principles of the People: Nationalism, Democracy, Socialism. i.e a bonafied Fascist just like the CPC have become.

The Commies are ok with it as a symbol of the Second United Front, but since the game was spanning slightly into the post-WW2 period, use of the KMT symbolism in that context was not permissible.

Companies don't care about western markets anymore.

Most westerners just sleepwalk into purchasing decisions and have this nonsense idea of brand loyalty. There are people I know who get into heated arguments about Ford vs Chevrolet. It's moronic but good for the company. Once this controversy from Blizzard dies down, and it will, people will go back to playing their games in the West. Why would you bother nurturing such an apathetic and low maintenance customer base?

Westerners are well trained. They buy unquestioningly, they're loyal and they're obedient. This crap we've been putting up with over "hate speech", now we're trained to accept it. People still use these services.

Chinese customers are hard to retain. You upset their sensibilities, they fuck off to a competitor. Their only loyalty if any lies with Big Brother, i.e the state.

So companies have to give a fuck about them and so, guess who companies pander to?

I’m guessing this is what people like Zoe Quinn and Brianna Wu wants

As expendable idiots, sure. They're rabid leftists. Little do they know that China's Fascist regime would suppress the shit out of such degenerate individuals on sight. Neither of them could land even a lowly English teaching job.
