Terror Trouble in Orlando

People sperging about gun rights almost look sane when you compare them to people like this:

But... But... I thought Orlando was the Happiest Place on Earth!

According to law enforcement, 202 shots were fired by Mateen and police combined. Do you think police shot 2-3 times at this guy and waited for him to drop, or do you think every officer on the scene unloaded 10+ rounds the moment they found someone shooting at them, and hit one police officer in the helmet?

Let's be generous and assume officers took him down with 1 bullet. The officers who blew up the wall, took a bullet to the helmet, only used one shot to subdue him.

201 shots being Mateen's, he killed ~50 people and injured 50 more. That's a 50% hit rate, and out of the hit rate, half of all hits killed the victim. That is an extremely high mortality rate, especially to be shot by a single round. And that's taking the police shots out of the equation completely because let's be honest: this guy had 2-3 police magdump him the moment he shot at the police.

James Holmes shot 76 rounds off and killed 12 (wounding 58). That's around 1 person dying per 6 people shot.

Out of the people Mateen shot, 1 person died per 2 people shot. That is a huge mortality rate, especially considering only a single round per person. When you take into account police undoubtedly mag-dumping an armed terrorist who shot at and hit police officers, Mateen must have hit nearly every single round on a person, with each hit causing every other person to die.

I heard an interview with a victim this morning and he said he was walking around killing people mostly shooting them in the head. He was targeting those who were on the ground or cowering in comers so it makes sense really

Makes complete sense if that's what happened. I don't trust 100% these early victim reports on the news because several of them said there were 2-3 shooters, and anyone can go up to a news reporter on the scene and say whatever they need to to get onto TV. Most of the early reports are garbage and the most outrageous and generally most false reports are the ones that get the most attention. This particular report does make the most sense with the facts the police have put out.

They put onto their list how it's ONLY NOW legal for gays to adopt children in Florida. It's legal, and instead of celebrating it, they still use it as fuel for their victim-hood. Whoever made that list doesn't care about facts or equality: they just want to be seen as poor oppressed minority-class who need special classification and special protections under the law.

And?

I don't think anyone's criticized his marksmanship.

I'm just comparing this to other similar mass killings. Seung-Hui Cho fired 170 rounds and hit 49 people, but his victims were at a University so it's not exactly the same setting. Adam Lanza fired 155 shots and hit 29 people, killing 27. Most of his kills were into a mass of children herded into a bathroom stall that he found.

This guy's accuracy is comparable to the Port Arthur Massacre, where a mentally retarded man fired from the hip 29 rounds, killing 20 and injuring 12, in under 3 minutes, not counting the murders he continued outside, earning almost all headshots. That is some extreme accuracy for someone who claimed not to have trained with a gun and with an IQ of about 80.

Mateen however does appear to have a security guard license so he should have had more than zero practice shooting guns. Adam Lanza also went to the shooting range as recreation, but did not get this kind of extreme kills-per-shot ratio.

Most mass shootings have way more shots missed than hit. This guy hit a very large percentage of his shots. We'll know how many exactly when police finish their investigation and disclose how many rounds were fired by Mateen, and how many were fired by police.

In modern western armies, something like 100 rounds of ammunition are expended for every single enemy combatant killed, that's on a open field of battle with people who have been trained in the use of weapons to kill. In this situation it was one man using a weapon in a enclosed space with panicked people, it was quite litterly a one sided blood bath where lot's of innocent people died so I don't really see the point in creating that sort of statistic in the first place let lone comparing him to other people who have committed mass shootings.

The reason why most mass shooters end up with a terrible kill ratio is because very often they are mentally I'll with little or not training and do to know what they are doing.

This guy was trained, most likely watched ISIS videos and magazines giving tips on how to plan this, etc.

The only person he's comparable to if you want to talk mass shooters is breivik. Omar had military precision because he was a jihadi on a mission. Also, and I have no doubt this is the case, he originally opened fire on a packed crowd that didn't immediately realize what was happening

So you end up with tons of people shot in shock on the ground for him to kill, on top of people who fleed in places without any exits. It's hard to get out of a small club when a maniac is shooting everything and you are drunk or high as balls bro

It just stood out to me that out of 200 shots fired, 100 hit people, and out of 100 people hit by shots, 50 died in comparison to most other mass shootings in the US which generally have much more shots than victims, and much fewer fatalities than wounded.

I was also curious about the number of shots he fired since another hearsay news report that turned out to be wrong claimed he had 30 30-round magazines on him, and that he fired off most of them, so I was looking at how many shots he actually got off.

Seriously the most important factor in how he managed to kill so many of them is that it's an almost guarantee that 95%+ of them were either drunk or high

Ain't anyone sober but the occasional designated driver in a gay club on Saturday night at 2am

Apples and oranges you can't compare a tiny club packed with drunk and high people with a university campus in the middle of the day where only a third are high and/or drunk

It's actually not that small of a club. I'm trying to find numbers right now but iirc reports are there were about 400 people in the building at the time at at peak capacity it hits 800.

EDIT: OK I'm finding 200 people at the time of shooting and a former employee saying 800 at peak activity.

Can't you compare a tiny packed club with a tiny packed dark movie theater? Minus the intoxication, the setting isn't that far off from James Holmes' massacre.
