They are available if you have a license, which is really hard to obtain. The easiest way would be to illegally modify a semi-automatic rifle to be fully automatic.

You need to find someone who owns one, pay $200 for the transfer fee, pay thousands of dollars for the gun, go through a background check that lasts between 6-14 months or longer by the ATF, but yeah, you can buy one if you have a lot of money and you're willing to wait half a year to a year.

The thing is, semi auto works just fine for a bunch of disarmed people. Manual actions can kill plenty in a short amount of time. Anyone who is trying to commit a mass murder will just go with the alternative that doesn't take 6+ months to get.

Virtually no one commits violent crimes with automatic firearms in the US. The last one documented that I'm aware of was the Hollywood Shootout, which was a semi automatic gun converted illegally. They didn't kill a single person with their guns, automatic or not.

It's not that easy of an issue here. Disarmament may work in other countries but would catastrophically fail in America. It's part of our culture and is a right.
