The father is tweeting that this wasn't tied to their religion but that the son was pissed off over seeing two gay men kiss while in Miami.
Might prove this was a hate crime and the guy's a raging homophobe, might just be the father covering his own ass; hard to say. There's a lot of crazies coming out of the woodwork and claiming they knew this and that about the guy.

I am not yelling friend. I'm saying there's no real difference if ISIS sends individuals into the USA to commit terror attacks, or if people want to support ISIS by doing them on their own. We still have the most deadly mass shooting in the United States.
People should hope that this guy was propped up by ISIS, trained, instructed, funded, and deliberately came here to do this. It's a lot easier to stop people invading and controlled by foreign entities to commit acts of terror, and as you said, it's impossible to weed out lone wolves or sleeper agents inspired by ISIS.
My main point was, ISIS will claim this guy is a martyr, a hero, and claim responsibility whether or not they had any affiliation with him whatsoever, and it will be inspiring to other copycats. And terrifying to other people targeted by ISIS, because if he was working on his own, there's no effective way to monitor that or prevent it.

You know. I'm inclined to believe that she really means this without using it to political manner. No mention of laws. Just solace. For once. I love the second photo especially.
I wonder when this will become less shocking. I would like to check out the list of those who passed but seeing familiar names might cause more than a person can accept in one day. It feels so weak even typing that out. Our local LGBT is doing a gathering including crisis counseling and even attending that sounds overwhelming.
How do people cope w something like this. Trying to even fathom it right now seems completely impossible.

I'm not a fan of religion in general, but it seems Islam is the farthest behind on things like, oh, tiny things like human fucking rights.
You can't make everyone happy. You can either protect normal people who want to live their lives or the 'devout' and religion-set who want everyone to live by their rules.
Yes, it is about Islam. And frankly, I don't see 'good' Muslim do anything besides bitch and moan and pass the buck.
I'm gonna powerlevel a bit and I know it's a personal example, but I've done queer volunteer work and helped out with tons of programs with volunteers from every group (Jews, whites, POCs, gays, straights, trans, and then some)... except Muslims. Never had a Muslim volunteer and never saw any of them come to anything. So no, Islam is not your friend, LGBTQ community. Even the ones not out hating you sure as fuck aren't allies.

As far as this event goes, it's undoubtedly going to involve politics and discussion about how political entities have responded to the news.
However, it would benefit the discussion if the thread was centered around the event and said politicians' direct responses to that instead of Republicans/Democrats general.

Obama's speech just has me shaking my head. He mentions a snide remark about gun control and how they're dirty and need to be banned. Nothing about his potential connections to ISIL. Nothing about potential radical terrorism. Nothing about how the assault rifle he bought was most likely purchased on the black market. Nothing about fighting back about this hate.
