I think I know what it is. It's the over integration of tech that makes it feel like driving a smartphone. EVs can be badass and scrappy just like older petrol counterparts, but they're not. The same ailment that plagues modern cars plagues EVs that make all of them feel soulless: tackily slapped on screens, LTE modules, subscriptions to activate features, user serviceability made unfriendly, few avenues for customization outside body kits and cosmetics, and more I'm sure. There's something just souless about EVs.
If I were to get an EV, I want it to be like a giant RC car or quadcopter where I can dive into the electrical components and replace speed controllers or any of the other modules to really make it my own. Of course, manufacturers are at the behest of govt regulations so cool stuff like that can't exist. Hell the govt has already come after remote controlled aircraft.
