There's something just souless about EVs.
I think I know what it is. It's the over integration of tech that makes it feel like driving a smartphone. EVs can be badass and scrappy just like older petrol counterparts, but they're not. The same ailment that plagues modern cars plagues EVs that make all of them feel soulless: tackily slapped on screens, LTE modules, subscriptions to activate features, user serviceability made unfriendly, few avenues for customization outside body kits and cosmetics, and more I'm sure.

If I were to get an EV, I want it to be like a giant RC car or quadcopter where I can dive into the electrical components and replace speed controllers or any of the other modules to really make it my own. Of course, manufacturers are at the behest of govt regulations so cool stuff like that can't exist. Hell the govt has already come after remote controlled aircraft.

They used the Mustang name for some piece of shit crossover the Mach-E, so obviously had to soil a legendary name on the other side of the Atlantic on some consortium made crossover crap. It's a crime and a sin, but they've no shame. Like a lot of their recent offerings it looks to be very generic and fairly subpar. It's like their execs want to destroy all their IP. Crossovers are dull, ugly and look the same, but this 'Capri' seems to surpass them all in how anonymous it is. It won't even be that good as an electric car if their other electric offerings are any guide.

Goodwill and brand recognition are depleting resources, and all big companies are in a race to ruin them as fast as possible with lending legendary names to shit projects.
I never got my head around how in Warhammer mankind forgot how to invent things. Now I get it though.

Now it's all about the one trick pony 0 to 60 time of EVs, and how large of a screen you can slap in the middle of the dash, and how gimmicky your software is, instead of design, driver engagement and usability.
Even a 4 cylinder economy box has more soul to it compared to an EV.
The sound, revving, throttle response, shifting through the gears, the smell are all things that make a combustion engine car so much more than the sum of its parts. No piece of software on wheels will ever match it.

I thought EVs were going to free up car design from evil ICE. once you get rid of the prop shafts and gearboxes you can make the car any shape you want.

And yet all the new ones are shitty SUVs.

Here’s ford’s latest name raping piece of wank.

The nu Capri

GM CEO Mary Barra announced that Buick's 1st EV for the US will be delayed, due to increased tariffs on Chinese EVs, and slowing demand for EVs in general.

With all of the auto makers slowing their their EV pushes, will governments decide to push EV mandates even further, i.e. threatening to shut off all gas stations completely by a certain date, i.e. 2030, or make driving a ICE vehicle punishable by death, out of spite?
President Harris would definitely

Didn't Norway say that they were going to go EV-only by 2025? And even with the sheer amount of Tesla owners there, I think, how realistic is that time frame?

Some other EV news: Tesla reported a profit loss in 2 straight quarters, with Q2 profit declining by 45% compared to last year, and the Robotaxi has been delayed.
Don't know about Norway in particular, but the European Union as a whole voted for the ban of production of ICEs. So a collectively stupid decision.

Lol at the Tesla losses, most valuable car brand my ass, always has been a bubble and it's finally starting to pop.

Look at this stupid shit. Barely better than a 1080. Sure it's got more VRAM, but it's not got a cent worth of fp16 performance. The best part is they are going for $300 now with all the scalpers and that's before you slap a fan shroud on the thing so it can barely keep below 100F.

Your best option just to run this piece of shit is to buy a prolient or power edge that will make your house sound like a jet hanger.

Fuck Nvidia because the alternative for 24GB VRAM costs $800 used.

in 2022 80% of Norway's vehicles were electric so they're close, and that's just ending the sale of ice vehicles
No, 80% of new sales. The vast majority of cars in Norway are still ICE. Even if sales remained at the 2023 peak (which they have not), it take more than a decade before EVs and ICE reach parity.

Norway isn't an EU member. It also started cutting EV subsidies and applying vehicle taxes to BEVs over a year ago, under the pretext that the EV push had succeeded, but in reality because it was costing a fortune that even the Norwegian sovereign fund couldn't sustainably pay. EV sales have crashed since.

So many people in the US shop for EVs based solely on the $7500 tax credit the gov gives out.

If that were to vanish....ohhh boy.
