As Ford loses billions on EVs, the company embraces hybrids - CNBC via bing

"You're going to see a lot more hybrid systems from us," CEO Jim Farley said Thursday after the company reported second-quarter earnings that revealed widening losses on its electric vehicles unit.

"We have been surprised, frankly, at the popularity of hybrid systems for F-150," Farley said during Ford's second-quarter earnings call. More than 10% of F-150 pickup customers are opting for the hybrid model, Farley said, and that percentage has been increasing.

Ford also offers a hybrid version of its small Maverick pickup. That has been an even greater success, Farley said, with more than half of Maverick buyers — 56% — choosing the $1,500 optional hybrid powertrain over the standard four-cylinder engine
yeah no shit sherlock, you could've learned this with a teeny bit of market research.

Still, glad they learned now and will be offering more hybrids

Marques Brownlee spent $100k on Tesla Solar and Powerwalls for his house, yet despite the massive investment, he still has to buy electricity from the grid on suboptimal days. He annoying brags about not having experienced any power outages and being "off-the-grid" despite his own graphs showing hundreds of times where he would have had an outage if it wasn't for the grid:

Gray lines mean that he was drawing from the grid and that he would have had an outage if he was actually energy independent.

His scheme is also only break-even due to New Jersey's dumb "net-metering" plan which is an enormous subsidy paid for by everyone else who buys electricity from the grid. That plan will not stick around because it is completely unaffordable for the power company: it forces them to trade worthless solar power at noon for expensive gas/coal/nuclear power at night. California has already been forced to ditch net metering because too many people installed solar panels (due partially to California mandating that all new homes must have them). Since his payback period is 10 years, good luck having zero dollar bills for the entire payback period.

The dude also uses a ridiculous amount of electricity (>6 mWh/mo) even though he has a natural gas furnace:

That's just the power he used from the panels; he used more from the grid when his battery was drained.
(May apparently had only one cloudy day where he lived and was his best generating month all year).

Good to know Marques Brownlee is yet another soy tech retard who should be laughed at.

My only thoughts on him are that he wants to be like apple, different for the sake of being different throwing efficiency aside. It's like when you have high int. but low wis. so you make bad decisions on projects resulting in their failure a llt of the time. The more he hurts Twitter the better though so i can get by that.

Bolt cutters on a 250kW cable? Your funeral...

All a question of getting the right tools for the job. People gotta somehow work on way worse shit (especially in the renewable industry). 1KV is not even that bad.

Thingy should also turn off instantly once it detects a failure in the cable to prevent shtf when some retard somehow manages to run over the cable with the lawnmower ,
or the car randomly self-ignites because you hit a pothole on the way home.

I don't understand how this guy became so popular reading basic spec info for phones and giving some subjective review of them. It's funny how he tries to be a car guru ever since he started making videos on EVs.

He was the first tech reviewer to use expensive cameras, After Effects, and color grade his videos. People watch his videos because they're pleasing to the eyes, not for his technical analysis.

So he just makes pretty pictures and reads technical manuals. That's a lot for a nigger. He can read and look like his music videos

As China goes all-in on EVs, they are also running into the same issues that come with EVs in general, and in some cases, the problems are even worse:

At least the bus company had a moment of clarity, and stopped using their EV buses, out of fear that they'll ignite and cause significant injury or death.

to be fair, this is china. they dont give a shit about quality products

A Class-action lawsuit has been filed against Hyundai, due to a defect with Level 2 charging that causes overheating issues, and throttles the charging speed. The Hyundai IONIQ5/6 cousin cars in the Kia EV6, and Genesis GV60, also have this same issue.

Tesla has also added cheaper Standard Range trims for the Model S and X, which are ~$10k cheaper, but have ~20% less range. It turns out that the Standard Range cars have the exact same battery as the higher trims, and the reduced range is due to a software lock on the battery. People already got pissed off about Mercedes-Benz charging extra in order to get full performance on their EVs, but the Tesla Stans will find a way to make an excuse out of this.

Tesla has also managed to repo someone's car, despite the owner paying for it in full, due to an accounting error on Tesla's behalf. (Archived)

Tesla software locking range tiers has always been a thing.

He's another influencer who's paid to shill shit. Note how he never says a bad word about anything Samsung, even though their foldable phones are junk

I wonder how the grid is gonna handle all these new EVs that take up a LOT more power compared to electric bikes and scooters.
Probably fine, as china has no compunction over polluting massively to make their electricity and is not falling for the globohomo anthropocentric climate change propaganda. I don't know why china would be interested in EVs at all. They don't care about smogging up their cities and (most likely) don't believe in the theory that mankind is significantly altering the climate through carbon emissions. Even if they did, the EVs are only shifting the emissions from a car to a plant somewhere else as the chinese central "planners" are probably at least realistic enough to realize that it's impossible to keep up with EV adoption without widespread nuclear power or going all out on old generation methods like coal and gas. Unfortunately our own "leadership" here in the west have had a greenie provided lobotomy and are now anti nuclear, instead favoring retardation like windmills and half measures like solar. The anti nuclear sentiment of the same people telling us we're changing the climate was the final nail in the coffin for anthropocentric climate change for me. If they really believed we were going to turn the world into a sweltering mess if we didn't do something now they wouldn't be prioritizing a problem that is a century from being anything serious - reactor waste, over climate change.

No surprise there. No famous name can survive a buyout from the chinese.

I'm trying to upload a video of Edison Motor's Carl running, but internet here over tor is poop and I keep getting errors on the mirror. But this electric truck sounds niiiice

Sounds like a bunch of gears to me.

China can’t make a good internal combustion engine. They can make electric motors and they control the entire supply chain of the batteries. They promote EVs because they see them as an opportunity to take the lead in the automotive industry that they missed the boat on. They’re promoting them as a “Made in China” thing rather than an environmental thing.

China is also taking over the low end EV market in Europe by undercutting the European brands (e.g. MG which isn’t British anymore). They also have some high end brands like Volvo and Lotus. It’s gonna be hilarious if the Germans virtue signal their way out of an entire industry.

China doesn't need good internal combustion engines. Where it is desirable, for prestige purposes, they make perfectly adequate economy and mid-range engines for the Honqi L5 V8 and V12 versions. But they aren't necessary. If you're travelling within a city or even exurbs, an electric car will be just as quick and have plenty of range. If you're travelling between cities, there is a faster train, which will get you faster to your destination than a Veyron, and you won't get hand-raped by niggers in the process.
