I used to drive through sticks of the states where finding anything but 87 could be a 60 mile stretch, so finding some fucking fast charger with a Starfux to glaze for half an hour is like dreaming of flying cars. And indeed, even a quick fill stop during a long haul literally adds half to an hour had you been able to just keep hauling ass.

I also hate the idea itself that large amount of money I spent on a versatile thing that is supposed to open more locale to me is gonna be limited in a retarded way like running out of a slowly charging battery.

It’s really not that long. Try 13-18 minutes.


And the time you save not filling up at gas stations for your more routine days and weeks adds up. I start every day with a full charge. Not to mention that the maintenance visits are so much less frequent that it saves substantial time and complexity from your life .


Taking a few extra minutes to charge really will change how you look at travel once you can give up the ridiculous “gotta get there now now now….” Bs. Combine these slightly longer stops with full self drive and you’ll realize quickly that arriving well rested and not stressed out is far better than turning a 7 hour drive into a 6.1 hour drive. This tendency to turn any drive over 3 hours into the cannonball run is just ridiculous

I'm pretty sure drag racing is more fun when you can modify stuff for cheap, not just do bracket racing with your Tesla, or dunking on people who still don't know that it accelerates fast from the tree.

No it’s more fun to smoke an X5 M60 or a 90’s viper or a C7 vette, hellcats, etc to the merge in my shitbox commuter car Tesla model 3. I made a guy in a Raptor R punch his steering wheel in rage just last week when I noped him from cutting me off and spraying gravel all over me.


(To be fair these things run out of steam over 70mph…direct drive with no gearing will quickly limit an otherwise ridiculously fast car,) I’ll be getting a lightly used 24-26 model S next spring to replace my model 3, and those do a lot better from a roll. But a lightly modified q37 3.0t red sport or a 335/435 will pull the same car over 70mph.

But look at what horrific part finally did catch on - subscription services for parts of the damn car..........not to mention that cost of the car itself back then surely and heavily outweighed the cost of the battery itself unlike today when 10/30k of the shitbox is the damn battery, much like the gas engine+tranny. Nor is it a milk crate with a simple positive and negative terminal anymore, so swapping modern nuclear-level power plants would not be quicker than filling a 20 gallon tank of gas. I said it before and I will again - EVs will catch right on when getting 400 mile range back into them will become but a 5-10 minute affair, which is won't.

The cars with the replaceable batteries were made with modular battery packs witch were swappable. Now a days, with how Indian everything is and what Tesla cars are like, if you looked at the swappable pack wrong the whole thing would catch fire just to spite you. I had seen a video where it looked like the battery took up the whole turn of the car and can be lifted out like a module. This would be a bunch of batteries in a box meant to fit into the car. But looking for it now I can't find it. All the examples of electric cars from the period use traditional lead acid batteries numbering 7 or more. I suppose they must have just picked up the lead acid batteries out of the car and swapped them out battery by battery and didn't use a module to do it at once.

Thank you I was looking for a video like that. In searching I have found a Spanish company that makes a small car with a modular battery pack that wheels around like suitcase. It is important to note, the car is called a "mini car" and is basically an enclosed electric galf cart. They have some photos of actors modeling using the car and I can already imagine that IRL this would be a nightmare. Most people carry things to and from their car on their way to work. They have to have a work bag and a lunch box, so now on top of the stuff I have to take with me to work, I now have an additinoal heavy item, the battery, to lug around too. Swappable batterise have been tried a lot of times. They are a more expensive and less inconvient way to use the same vehicle. It's a massive increase in the cost of energy (gasoline or electricitiy) if I have to manually carry around batteries all the time. It is a reduction is living standards and quality of life to have to pay more and be physically incovenienced for less power. It's a masive haircut economically. I can't see how any one would be excetied about this. All the Eco nonsense doesn't make this worth it. It's just advertising twisting your self into knots chasing green technoolgy to be made poorer and less productive for doing so. It's like being advertised to live in a run down crap house you're not allowed to renovate while living in it; a transition into artifically created poverty.

They should really just put the power plant in the car, that way I can drive around as much as I want and generate electriticy and mechanical work whenever I need it. And since a power plant is so much cheaper and longer lasting than a battery, you can just only use the power plant and leave out the hybrid battery.

You assume they know the secret undercurrents of the market, but then they reveal their portfolio and it's literally just google, apple and tesla. I live near a very wealthy area, and I've seen some Bentleys up close. Like Teslas & Jaecoo, they have this cheap look to them, like the fake gold foil you have on chocolate coins.

Generally newer vehicles look tacky to me. If you look at an old Range Rover (1970s/1980s) and compare it to a new one, it just looks better.

I have short gearing on my old Land Rover (which probably has less than 100 HP), and on steep inclines and up to 40 mph it will out-accelerate anything, including a Tesla. So what?

I regularly see people waiting around for their EVs to charge, and I filled up, took a piss, bought myself an overpriced coffee, and am back on the road.
The number of bizarre copes I see about charging, there is a new one every day.

It's only quicker if you have charging infra on your property. Otherwise, it is a major PITA. I don't have charging infrastructure in my first-floor (second for those in the US) apartment.

There is no fucking way I am having a computer drive for me. The only driving aids I actually rate are ABS and maybe traction control. The rest are IMO dangerous as the vehicle starts fighting what you are doing (actually had this happen in a newer vehicle).

If you are travelling regularly, you want the trip to be over and done with. The journey itself is often boring and expensive, and you have brief moments of "Oh fucking shit, that Chinese woman almost ploughed into me.". Stopping for 15-18 minutes (your numbers, not mine) is about 30-45 minutes on the road, as you have to actually exit where you've stopped, rejoin, and then get back into the flow of traffic and/or change route based on traffic conditions. This changes a 5-hour drive into an 8-hour drive.

Whenever I read stuff like this from EV drivers, I know they are simply trying to justify all the downsides of owning one (which are numerous).

It would be like me pretending that buying a 30-year-old Land Rover Defender makes financial sense because they are increasing in value. I am not going to pretend that other people should buy a Defender. The entire vehicle is a compromise. It is an enthusiast's vehicle. It isn't for everyone, and that is what EVs are like. They are for people that want an iPhone on wheels. I don't want to be forced to have one because some twat in a tie in Westminster got lobbied by some green lunatics or an American autistic billionaire wants another 10bn in his portfolio.

Toyota's EVs so far have been either phoned-in, with things such as the bZ not even having a glovebox, or rebadged Chinese EVs. And Hyundai/Kia/Genesis EVs are still having ICCU failures (which is the equivalent to an ICE car's alternator failing prematurely) even after recalls to "update the software".

The real unbearable content creators are the ones that actually own and drive Chinese EVs, and not just shilling for them.

Lmao, no. No Apple maps is taking me to moon via construction sites and detours not marked on it. And no microwave will do even a 6 hr drive without sitting somewhere like a stooge for 2 more charging the damn thing, assuming that's even available where you're going. Rule literally most if not all national parks and neat surroundings areas complete out.

Time saved from not spending 5 min at a gas station once a week vs having to remember to charge the damn thing? Please.
