US Texas to take up bill requiring Ten Commandments in every public school classroom - WTF is "Separation of Church & State"?

The Texas state Senate Education Committee this week will take up a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be installed in every public school classroom, and another that would allow schools to hire pastors or chaplains instead of counselors.

“A public elementary or secondary school shall display in a conspicuous place in each classroom of the school a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments,” reads SB 1515.

The bill is extremely specific, mandating the size of the poster (at least 16 x 20), and that it be readable from anywhere in the classroom: “in a size and typeface that is legible to a person with average vision from anywhere in the classroom in which the poster or framed copy is displayed.”

The bill also includes the complete text of the Ten Commandments, in the version ordained by its author, state Senator Phil King, a Republican.

Senator King’s bill goes as far as to mandate that if a school classroom does not have the Ten Commandments posted, it “must” accept a copy if anyone donates one, and any extras “must” be offered for donation to any other school. It can also use taxpayer funds to purchase a copy.

NBC News senior investigative reporter Mike Hixenbaugh, who posted news of the bill on Monday, points out language in the Ten Commandments might be confusing to a first grader.

The Education Committee will also take up a bill “allowing school districts to employ chaplains to perform the duties of school counselors.”

The bill, SB 763, specifies that the chaplains do not need to be certified by the state education board.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, believed to be gauging a run for the White House, as the state Attorney General won a U.S. Supreme Court case allowing the Ten Commandments to be displayed on the state capitol grounds.

A constitutional attorney for the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) in 2019 wrote allowing the Ten Commandments in classrooms would “impose biblical law on the state’s public schools,” and added: “Such displays are illegal.”

Irrespective of its intent, having religious references within school grounds is crossing the line as it can be viewed as an endorsement of religion faith. Especially if it's mandated by state law.
Lmao I love how these autists vote your post as dumb for being honest, but if it came to a school hanging up a LGBT pride flag in a classroom they’d shriek about Sodom & Gomorrah.

Keep religion out of the public school classroom. It sets just as bad a precedent as putting up gay shit everywhere.

Christianity builds the entire Western World.
Come modern times.
Christianity is put on distance.
Fags and lunatics begin to roam openly.
Christianity tries to come back and fix some shit.
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE AYRABS, THE HINDUS, THE BUDAS AND THE HOMOS?? THEY FEE FEELS MIGHT GET HURT IF THEY SEE A CROSS.

While I am a believer, this is a violation of the Establishment Clause, and no different from putting the trans flag on the wall of a classroom. The state should not be free to indoctrinate children into any religious or demi-religious belief system.

All of you retards saying how great this is are going to be crying foul when Muhammad demands the same access to a child's school room and wants to put sharia law texts in school classrooms under the threat of violence from the state. Or when an edgy Satanist decides he wants to include a picture of Baphomet's titties in every school classroom.

The choice isn’t between Christianity and secularism; it’s between Christianity and Wokism. Religion is already being taught in schools with zero checks.

Removing traditional religion from the schools was a massive mistake as it left a power vacuum that was filled by a crazy and destructive cult.

They already want that and they WILL get that if no checks are put into place.
You fucking dare to question any troon fag bullshit pushed in school, you will get fucked up. You say shit about muslims, you'll be marked out.
Meanwhile insult Christianity, that's not only fine, that shit is treated like it should be the common sense to do.
Taking out religion out of school is like getting mugged in the street, kicking yourself in the nuts, then apologizing to the mugger for the inconvenience.

this seems to be necessary:

- "God" is only mentioned in the declaration of independence (1776) once, and the specific mention is of "the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God". there is also mention of "their Creator", of "the Supreme Judge of the world", and of "divine Providence", but the founding fathers never mention a christian god, nor christianity.

- "God" is not mentioned in the articles of confederation (1777), nor in the constitution of the united states (1787), nor in the bill of rights (1791). certain dates are given "in the year of our Lord", and there is mention of "the Great Govenor of the World" at the conclusion of the articles of confederation, but there is absolutely no invocatio dei, nor any mention of christianity, to be found in any of our founding federal documents.

- in 1819-1820, thomas jefferson, founding father and author of the declaration of independence, also crafted the life and morals of jesus of nazareth, a concise book composed entirely of passages from the new testament. he did this to prove that he was "a true Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus."

- though strongly opposed by religious leaders, jefferson's book would be published by the u.s. government printing office through an act of congress in 1904. notably, it did not contain the ten commandments.

also, our founding fathers chose e pluribus unum as our national motto. thirteen letters for thirteen sovereign colonies. out of many, one. the u.s. government has only invoked god during the civil and cold wars:

- "In God We Trust" did not appear on american coins until 1864.
- "under God" was not included in the pledge of allegiance until 1954.
- "In God We Trust" did not appear on american paper currency until 1957.

Texas Republicans are masters of deflecting their voters away from things that actually matter, and passing token gestures that either do nothing, or are guaranteed to be struck down by the SCOTUS. That's what the heartbeat bill was supposed to be. Voters were furious about libs trooning out kids in urban public schools and managed to force the issue in the legislature. The GOP killed it, then passed the heartbeat bill instead, figuring it wouldn't survive SCOTUS, and they could get back to the important work of corpogibs. Then, oops, the SCOTUS struck down Roe v Wade, and they're actually on the hook now.

This is the same thing. Texas lawmakers know the voters are pissed off about Soros DAs wrecking Texas cities. They know the voters are furious about the trans/gay shit infesting schools. So...pass a Ten C's bill! We can say we did something "conservative," and it's not our fault the LIE-ber-uhl court struck it down!

Texas Republicans are masters of deflecting their voters
No I think most Texas Republicans are in seats so deep red and so safe they've literally forgotten how politics work and are basically like what happens if you let a five year old downs syndrome kid run around a supermarket doing whatever he wants with no consequences. I don't think they're the "masters" of anything, they're just never going to get voted out of office and are shitting out nonsense bills with all the foresight and planning of a cat pushing things off a counter to see what happens to them.

It's a pattern with the TX GOP. Every time the libs are doing something horrible, and voters demand the GOP do something, they pass some retarded prayer-in-schools-style distraction measure. They're like any other Republican - you answer to the party, or you don't get the good committee assignments. Right now, the state GOP's agenda is to try to get people to shut up about social issues, which they view as an embarrassment.

This is who heads up the Senate Education committee. He's a well-off, Houston-area Republican, not some hayseed retard from Bumfuck, Nowhere who's never met a Democrat outside of session. Note the lapel pin.

I think it's really retarded when shitlibs start screeching about le separations of church and state (which they don't actually understand) every time the word "god" is said in the pledge or the dollar bill BUT this is really stupid and only gives the former more ammo to continue screeching about how the evil christians are oppressing them or something despite having every institution on their side.

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.

The Constitution is supposed to be absolute for the nation's freedom, but evolve as human civilization advances yet we have people here twisting it for their own agenda. Wow.
