US Texas to take up bill requiring Ten Commandments in every public school classroom - WTF is "Separation of Church & State"?

The Texas state Senate Education Committee this week will take up a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be installed in every public school classroom, and another that would allow schools to hire pastors or chaplains instead of counselors.

“A public elementary or secondary school shall display in a conspicuous place in each classroom of the school a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments,” reads SB 1515.

The bill is extremely specific, mandating the size of the poster (at least 16 x 20), and that it be readable from anywhere in the classroom: “in a size and typeface that is legible to a person with average vision from anywhere in the classroom in which the poster or framed copy is displayed.”

The bill also includes the complete text of the Ten Commandments, in the version ordained by its author, state Senator Phil King, a Republican.

Senator King’s bill goes as far as to mandate that if a school classroom does not have the Ten Commandments posted, it “must” accept a copy if anyone donates one, and any extras “must” be offered for donation to any other school. It can also use taxpayer funds to purchase a copy.

NBC News senior investigative reporter Mike Hixenbaugh, who posted news of the bill on Monday, points out language in the Ten Commandments might be confusing to a first grader.

The Education Committee will also take up a bill “allowing school districts to employ chaplains to perform the duties of school counselors.”

The bill, SB 763, specifies that the chaplains do not need to be certified by the state education board.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, believed to be gauging a run for the White House, as the state Attorney General won a U.S. Supreme Court case allowing the Ten Commandments to be displayed on the state capitol grounds.

A constitutional attorney for the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) in 2019 wrote allowing the Ten Commandments in classrooms would “impose biblical law on the state’s public schools,” and added: “Such displays are illegal.”

How about no.

Give the power back to parents and get rid of ideaolgy in general from public schools. Instead of religion or ideaology, lets introduce them to the idea of business and economics or using their brain to solve problems, maybe even rip out a societal tampon and let kids get hurt on playgrounds again. Religion is a personal thing much like sexuality and should be left at home for parents to instill on their children on their own; not schools.

It is literally the same thing the leftist teachers have done just with a right leaning authoritarian slant.

Isn't that what some Republicans and the likes of Libs of TikTok an Gays Against Groomers already working to do?

If there is a God, He sure ain't doing much to stop Clown World from going the way it has been.
And why is that?
Bullshit, everybody loves girlcock, they just don't know it yet.
Sounds like learning about what a futanari is can change people.
Oh fundie dudes love cock of all varieties, believe me, I know, they just don't like to openly admit to it.
From what I've heard, it was the "male feminist" meme/StoneToss comic of 15-20 years ago.
I would love to see states go that route and classify Current Year as a religion. That would be more effective than this IMO.
And how do you propose that little thing is accomplished?

How about no.
Nah, we tried that and ended up in clown world.

It has been shown that a vacuum just invites something to fill it with, might as well fill it with the right kind of Christian values. All the Fedora atheist talking about how religion is the opiate of the people, they'd just move on to fentanyl if opiate is not available.

It is, and it has been shown to be acceptable. Somehow the complaints only go one direction, so might as well accept and embrace it as a fundamental and immutable property of what is right.
What the hell does that mean?
God willing, or Inshallah.

Ok, and? While I think public schools should be strictly secular, this is just a lame and gay political stunt as @Matt Damon said. It's unlikely to pass, and even if it does, it's unlikely to change anything. I get pushing back on woke clownworld bullshit just as much as most people here, pride flags, drag queen storytime and asinine BLM propaganda shouldn't be in schools either, but this does nothing to expel them from schools at all. It's a toothless, faggy little political bitch slap emblematic of what the GOPe tends to do in solid red areas the regressive left targets with their identity poison constantly in their insane conquest of one party rule.

How about trying to pass a mandate that no objects relating to identity politics are allowed in schools instead? It would do as much good as this will, i.e. none at all legislatively, but it would be symbolic of the desire to purge schools of the woke agenda. And sometimes in politics, symbolism can be more powerful than actual legislation. This could be one of those uncommon situations.

I wouldn't say Republicans are doing much of anything, especially if they swings too hard to religious ideology. It is just flagging to others like me who are begrudgingly on conservative sides that this is what we get to look forward to; one regime for another instead of a new leader of a once better nation. Gays Against Groomers and Libs of TikTok could potentially be two new OMG/O'Keef style journalism and in an optimistic angle, they could be the new start of Neo-mainstream media. :optimistic:

This is probably the closest to a modern dark ages western society will see as traditional values Right or Left leaning, have been completely eradicated. It is the death of Nuance and we are primed for a possible military authoritarian dystopia in our near future. Question is, which military will it be, Neo-Crusaders or a new Mussolini?
might as well fill it with the right kind of Christian values.
May as well kill all the wolves in Yellowstone as well. The right kind of Christian values. You know, my great aunt had a saying: "Tis better to be thought of a fool than to open one's mouth and confirm it." Also, very much so a pot calling the kettle black scenario here.

In the event the analogy of Yellowstone is a reference to how removing one species from an ecosystem destroyed swaths of land in Yellowstone National Park. Human intervention always comes with the best intentions in mind but we aren't blessed with the gift of foresight; we can be as predictive as we want, however, it'll always be imperfect. Having Public schools have a Christian-bias or "progressive" bias is a terrible idea and always has been. It forces developing kids to adopt the ideologies of one or the other, it forces children to think black and white without considering the shades of gray. Because they are developing minds, this black and white thinking grows alongside them until we have raving nationalists and pedophile dragsters.

When I was in school, we were united by one thing our National Flag and our Patriotism. Not the banners of Christianity, not the banners of the LFGBTQIA+P, but the idea of America's swiss cheese of a constitution.

Tsk tsk, you opened your mouth. You Fool!

The wolves are already gone, the entire park has been reclaimed and rebuilt into shopping malls. And you're bitching about some new developers buying up the place to turn it into a cinema complex.

It is now, old man.

But enough of yourself.

As the days go by I'm starting to think separating church and state might in and of itself be a problem, at least in terms of total separation. If we didn't enforce Christian theology, but did enforce Christian morality, I'm not sure we'd be as fucked as we are now.
Hollywood tried that in the 1940s-1960s. All it did was stifle creativity and created McCarthyism. And shunned a notable actress out of America for her personal affairs.

This is [2023], dumpling. [2023,] not the Dark Ages.

Not a big fan, but if it's this or drag time story hour I'd rather have this.
Exactly. People don't want to accept the fact humans are religious creatures. We as a society WILL and DO worship, it's just a matter of who or what we elevate to the level of worship worthiness.

Wokeism is replacing Christianity, and there is no possibility of some arguably idealistic neutrality where a vacuum exists. Bring Christianity back into public life or embrace the alternatives, which are hellish.

What’s wrong with this? I know I cropped out the jealous God and idol worshipping parts but even then it’s still way better than whatever the fuck liberals are teaching in the schools. Better my kid turn out Christian than being taught about buttplugs gay sex and transgender shit. Also if most parents in the area are Christian’s, they would gladly accept it. We have to take the best we can get here, and being Christian is not that bad at all. Even if you are a Reddit atheist, what’s wrong with your kids being taught to respect parents, no murder, no stealing, and no sexual immorality?

Because they might pray in their presence and then they have to be confronted with the feeling deep in the back of their own mind they push down.

This is dumb.

All that will result is a wall covered in religious scripture or artifacts.
Better than troon propaganda, If you hadn't noticed yet, with where society is going. you are going to have to pick a side ,either Christian aka team good, or team pedo-troon aka team bad. It's not 2015 no more, the brief era of the libertarian atheist sceptic who also hates SJW stuff is gone. People will have to pick one side or another.
