I hadn't paid attention to the explanation until now that you are mentioning it, but considering where the mouth of that thing is located I guess it only makes sense.

According to the pixiv description those are all sketches for a dress-up kind of game that the artist never finished, so I'd imagine the smudge is something that in their opinion didn't look that good so they just covered it.

Pixiv doesn't really give a shit about graphic content as long as it's marked as R-18 so I don't think it was because of it being particularly terrible.

It's been said that there's nothing truly new under the sun. Well, the godfather of manga Osamu Tezuka probably wasn't the first person with a transformation fetish but he definitely had a significant interest in it. And boy, was he into weird shit. He had a specific interest in female-animal transformations but he also dabbled in shit like female-inanimate object and upside down transformations. In short, when he wasn't drawing Atom, he was probably wanking off to this shit. The quality of the drawings may be low by today's standard and nothing in here will compete for "strangest thing I've seen on kiwifarms" but it's always funny to see what historical figures got turned on by.

@heathercho has confirmed that Tezuka created this as erotica and not as some kind of art study.

Except the third one. I have no idea what is going on there.

The fascination maybe not be necessarily sexual. The transformation interest may not be sexual too, or at least start off as such, but the hell I know, I'm no psychologist. I just wonder what kicked this off. I remember reading about how the skull on his father's table fascinated Giger of Alien design fame and you can see from his art how it bleed into some sexual fantasy territory. Many people born in 90ies or earlier probably got influenced by cartoons where this was a plot element, but what about Tezuka there? Not sure if exposure to animation during earlier years was enough for it, it wasn't even as latently fetishistic back then as it is now (seriously what the fuck is with Totally Spies), were folk tales and legends featuring transformation stories enough to spawn attraction to it? Or is there other cause of developing such kinks? This stuff existed since ancient times, just look at Greek myths where its a common punishment.

Okay so I'm also no psychologist but I happened upon a theory about how fetishes form a while back and if a developing child on the brink of puberty feels arousal while viewing something he or she may have seen innocently in the past (think older sister walking from shower to bedroom while wrapped in a towel, "mother" and "sister" are two very popular genres of fetish porn), they begin to associate that thing with sex. Who knows how many sexual deviants Totally Spies is responsible for making today.

He did do Ode to Kirihito, a manga about people slowly turning in to dog like creatures because of a disease. It's an interesting story, but now I wonder.

I'm fascinated by body horror/transformation, despite my squeamishness, and not in a sexual way. I think it's the same reason people might like watching horror films, or why the SAW films are so needlessly complex and gratuitous - it's a weird sort of thrill you get from being scared and/or disgusted.
