Give me some great extreme metal bands that don’t lean into satanism, raping women, extreme gore, or what have you.
Throwing some Teitanblood as I'm listening to their newest album right now:
Some Blue Hummingbird on the Left ...
... who shares members with Volahn (and Volahn himself being involved in BHOTL):
Then there is an album that involves Alan from Primordial and J. Reid from Revenge. It's a bit of an odd one and never got any real attention and got very overlooked tho as it doesn't bear any melodies like Primordial and is probably to "experimental" for Revenge-Fans. Nevertheless I like it.
Speaking of Primordial, a band that seems to be highly underrated but is one of my favourites.
You mentioned Nagelfar/Ruins of Beverast so you might already know about Lunar Aurora. If not then I highly recommend to check out all their albums. You should start with the first one and go on chronologically. You'll find all of them
on their bandcamp page.
Ulver got brought up so if you are not aware of it you should totally check out the very first album of Borknagar. Personally not a fan of what followed and what the band turned into but the first one is easily of the best Black Metal albums of all time. No corpsepaint Hail Satan! Black Metal.
And you should check out Enslaved from Norway. I don't know how much you are into anything that is considered to be avantgard/progressive/psychedelic (some how) bc Enslaved took a wild evolution over the years and I mean a really w i l d o n e if you compare their first album and their latest but I recommend to check them out at least until the album "Below the lights".
Almost forgot about Hate Forest. This is their newest album.
My favourite albums tho are "Purity" and "Hour of the Centaur" (which they released after 15 years of hiatus).
A few years before Hate Forest a split between them and Ildjarn was released. Weirdly enough, Ildjarn were already split up at this point and vanished into obscurity but Vidar aka Ildjarn had to release a statement explaining that the music that is labeled as Ildjarn on this release is not music recored by Ildjarn (or Nidhoegg, a band Ildjarn worked with closely). Again, as you brought up Ulver and just in case you aren't aware of Ildjarn you should give them a try. Back in the day they were pretty obscure and not that much known as their Black Metal was considered too fucking raw by too many. Also back in the day many thought Ildjarn would only use drum machines but in fact they did not.
