If you're into God tier USPM, consider backing the new Cauldron Born album. Everything Howie does is a homerun.

I've been on a real blackened death kick the last week. I've never been a real big fan of Behemoth so imagine my shock when the side project of Behemoth's drummer is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better than Behemoth is.

This is probably my favorite driving on the highway song.

Decided to finalize my top ten records for 2021. I was waiting for Cadaveric Fumes, but I ended up switching out three bands instead of just two.

Suffering Hour - The Cyclic Reckoning

Delivered on all the promise of the sprawling Dwell EP. Shits good. Dreamy death metal riffing that breaks the mold.

Këkht Aräkh - Pale Swordsman

I don't care about accusations of hipster metal or scene tourism, this shit slaps. Also apparently goth rock is awesome, color me impressed.

Old Nick - Iam Vampire Castle

No, that title isn't a typo. Somehow I'm STILL not seeing anyone talk about this band or Grime Stone Records as a whole. This needs to change, these guys are the freshest thing in black metal since Deathspell.

Serpent Column - Katartisis

Spastic blackened death metal that's worlds away from Behemoth or Belphegor.

Ad Nauseam - Imperative Imperceptible Impulse

Yeah, this is one of those records that's actually work to listen to, but boy howdy does it pay off. Keep your eyes on these italian madmen.

Cadaveric Fumes - Echoing Chambers of Soul

I put these guys in the rando corner for the album of the decade poll, now watch me do it again. Sadly this band's first and last full length ended up being a lot more conservative than their EP's, which is a damn shame. Still good though.

Our Place of Worship Is Silence - Disavowed, and Left Hopeless

Ever wished Ulcerate remembered to write riffs? Here you go.

Phrenelith - Chimaera

This one really surprised me, I was not expecting this band to come screaming back out of nowhere with a death metal record this solid.

Cerebral Rot - Excretion of Mortality

Cerebral Rot sounds like someone put Finnish death metal and Incantation in a blender and poured a coating of gore on top of it. I was half tempted to vote for it just for the drummers high hat, that shit sounds awesome.

Lamp of Murmur - Submission and Slavery

The signs were already there on the last full length, but somehow I was not expecting Lamp of Murmur to go all black metal Type O Negative. Maybe I'm just dense. In any case it sounds awesome.

Shit I wanted to vote for but couldn't because it's a Top 10 and not a Top Whatever the Fuck

Ormskrik (really solid death/thrash)
Inferno (czech atmo black)
Svneatr (proggy folk black)
Diskord (dissodeath)
Antediluvian (dissodeath with porn sound effects)
Archgoat (amazingly good for an album that begins with the sound of goats impregnating women)
200 stab wounds (shameless cannibal corpse worship)
Zhmach (black metal surf rock?)
Labyrinth Entrance (really well executed melodic black metal)
Cynic (goddamn it I really wanted to include this one, but I was bit disappointed by the electronic bass.)
Ænigmatum (more dissodeath)
Hooded Menace (they dropped a bit of the death metal sound on this one, but it actually really worked for them

So AMG is wailing about MUH REPRESENTATION. I'm starting to wonder why I bother checking this blog anymore when all they do it shit on/ignore real underground shit and cum all over power metal.

Have some goddamn Artillery! Quality thrash from Denmark (!) with some truly excellent guitar work
Old Artillery is great but I'll never get over how terrible Terror Squad's artwork is. It's like the artist gave up a quarter of the way through.

On a slightly relevant segue here's another cool 80s Danish album with terrible coverart.

I for one am a huge fan of album art that looks like it came from the back of someone's algebra notebook.
