German metal kick for the past few weeks. Lots of Sodom, Destruction, ect. Found a thrilling young thrash band with two solid albums out right now:

Also anyone else going to the Bay Area Strikes Back tour? First time going out to a concert in two years and no better way to celebrate a night out than with Testament, Death Angel and Exodus.

Ever heard protector? They're a real hidden gem of teutonic thrash.

Reign in Blood has nothing on Darkness Descends. 1986's finest.

I never got this sentiment. Darkness Descends is fast but Reign in Blood isn't just about speed, it's about the friction, the groove, and the feeling & inventiveness of Lombardo's drumming. Not to mention the Rick Rubin (pre-deafness/alzheimers/insanity) production that makes it feel like you're getting beaten up by a Russian hitman. (As opposed to most thrash albums, where it's more like your knees are getting beaten up by a 90 lb street urchin.)

Then again my thrash taste is pretty orthodox. In my book 1986's finest album may be the muggy nocturnal thing that is Master of Puppets, although overexposure has made most metalheads immune to its charms these days.

That Tomb of the Mutilated one is pretty cool. 70s pulp horror/giallo aesthetic death metal, why not?

Even though they're faggots, I'm kind of warming up to Old Nick. I still think the jokes and memes have more effort put into it than the music, but there's some okay stuff in there, it's just spotty and doesn't always work. Like most of these guys, they'll move on from BM when the next trend comes.

Old Nick have the riffs. Yeah, they're faggots for throwing a virtue signal into their bio, but damn do they sound good.

Ended up grabbing the LPs of the one with the outrageous title and A New Generation of Vampiric Conspiracies from a distro, along with an Ifernach album and Witches Moon - Forever Morning Star. The whole thing cost waaay more than I'd like, but that's it, I suppose.

I know No Solace in Sunlight just got a release and has popped up in a few places, and Iam Vampire Castle will end up hitting distros eventually. That Lace Shawl one is also pretty cool.

Alright boys, pack it up, we have a winner for the worst album covers debate.

I've gone full boomer in the beginning of this year, pretty much only listened to early heavy metal and proto-metal/borderline metal all this time. Here's 4 songs I feel like posting
The singer and bassist of Budgie, Burke Shelley, passed away in January this year, give this one a listen. I love the composition of this song, I always felt Budgie's influence on later metal was understated.

Budgie was one of my favorite 70s proto-metal hard rock bands. Definitely an underrated and unfairly overlooked band. Didn't know Burke Shelley died :heart-empty:
