And some new mods too are pretty faggy & retarded - almost seems like they got desperate and promoted borderline randoms to become mods last year. I think MA was at its peak like 7 years ago when the mod team was stronger, when Diamhea was still alive and, most especially, when the staff's passion for the site was stronger. Not to mention it was also before this being-offended-by-everything internet age happened (and they actually introduced "non binary" as a viable gender to artist profile pages).

You're not even allowed to add links to any racist bands on the site or review them positively at this point (thanks to Morrigan). But it's still the literal best website on the web to find a comprehensive list of virtually every metal band ever, and even with the insufferable piece of shit owner, at least that purpose is still the database's greatest strength. I still visit Metallum every now and then to this day to find new bands

Damn, most of my metal music taste is frozen around 2010 still so I haven't really kept up with MA. Sad to hear that.

This is something that I was actually thinking about posting in the M-A thread a while back, but it was a bit too niche and tinfoily so I didn't bother.
I'm suspecting they've been clandestinely deleting old positive reviews of wrongthink bands in the past year or so.
At the start of this year I noticed that Goatmoon's Death Before Dishonour, which had been sitting in the 90s (from 4 reviews) had all of its glowing (90+%) reviews deleted at roughly the same time, which resulted in its average plummeting all the way down to the 70s (from just 1). These reveiws had been sitting untouched for fifteen years, but suddenly after all this time they were all simultaneously judged to be subpar and quietly removed. It seems too much of a coincidence, especially the fact that the one review that scored much lower just happened to be the one allowed to stay, and I couldn't find any discussion on their forums about this decision.

pictured: archive of reviews as recently as Dec 2021. Three of these are now no long on the site. Can you guess which one is still up?

I also found this archive of their band page from ten years ago, showing their first two albums having very good 96% and 97% scores back in the days when you were allowed to say NSBM was anything but terrible. Today they sit at 79% and 68% respectively. It's not much but it is a good reminder of a time when M-A was still concerned about the music and not ideology.

As an aside, I noticed this with Arghoslent about a year ago as well (Incorrigble Bigotry dropping from 66% to 59% without any new reviews), but I have no archives so you'll just have to take my word for it.

That's not even tinfoil dude, it's pretty blatant.

On another note Dark Descent announced an Abyssal/Ellorsith split which sounds phenominal from the two preview tracks. I actually preordered it, which I do even more rarely than paying for music.

MA has spread it's influence into "shreddit" on r/metal and it is the biggest melting pot of spergatory for anything related to metal. You can only post specific bands that aren't on a ban list made by the mod team.....which are basically the same mods at MA. Their discord server is also as bad, it would make an awesome thread though,

I just recently got back into metal in the last couple years. I'm big on "theme metal" like Alestorm and Windrose, coming around to Sabaton, and rediscovering shit I loved as a teen like Megadeth.

Quick question for my felliow Metal-Autists, I recently discover Skiltron, which is awesome. Yall know any other metal bands which heavily feature bagpipes?

I learned from a post in the Unpopular-opinions-thread that Metallica has released a new album (the post is spot on; the album is AI generic shit on every level) and I somehow realized how much detached I'm from nowadays metal stuff but I'm not sure if this a bad or a good thing.
