That Metal Thread

And wtf is this with 1 gorillion live albums?
Sorta like how The Grateful Dead has released a ton of their live performances, but only recent shows? I might be interested in some Metallica lives from the mid-80s, but who the hell would bother to listen to a Metallica live from 2019 (much less show up to one?)

On that note, I think it's almost a waste to point out that the new Metallica isn't any good. Actually for all I know it is, I haven't listened to that shit. But Metallica put out 2 good albums 40 years ago, then they got popular off of t shirt sales while pumping out nothing but garbage. It's almost hack to make fun of them at this point.

I absolutely don't get the appeal of releasing 1 gorillion live albums. Especially nowadays where most of the live crowds are filming everything and uploading shitty videos to YouTube anyway.
Stuff from back in the 70s/80s/maybe even 90s? Sure, I get that. But since the rise of smartphones live recordings have become mostly obsolete.

Anyway, I am currently on a huge HEXENBRETT listening spree. Obscure weirdo Heavy/Black Metal from Austria.

1st EP

Excerpt from the 1st album (whole playlist can be found on YT)

2nd EP

Split with HAGZISSA

From what I can tell, you can get a free download of a soundboard recording of the show you attended if you scan in your concert ticket. I think they're also just selling them for anyone who wants to buy them, probably to keep bootleggers from making money off the shows.

Some good music:

If you attend a metallica concert you get free soundboard, which IMO sounds a million times better than someone random filming it on their phone because all you hear is the kick and bass. Metallica (708 shows, more to be added later), and Pearl Jam (522) are the big two when looking at nugs.net

I plan on making live albums of every metallica album for myself, im going to pick my favorite performance of every metallica song. The big question is out of the 708 shows what one did they play enter sandman the best 🤣

Good taste you got there (especially those last 2)

16 years old and yet this album is still so hard. It's (essentially) brutal death metal with breakdowns, or: pretty much deathcore just for people who don't like deathcore.

metal, both the music and the weird rocks that we dig up from the ground, is arguably australia's biggest export

Oh and a crazy amount of metalcore as well. It seems like 15 years ago the Aussies learnt of metal and have been hitting hard ever since.

I enjoy Lovebites myself from time to time, I've been more into Fate Gear recently and Band Maid.
I actually got the chance to see Band-Maid live. They're awesome--and I say that as someone who doesn't dabble in too many modern "kawaii girl" metal acts.

Speaking of J-Metal acts, I highly recommend the band Show-Ya, or the "Mothers of Japanese Heavy Metal". Their lead singer, Keiko Terada, has a husky milf voice that still sounds amazing at her age, in some ways better than she did during the 1980's.

Out of all the good extreme bands in the country you could name such as Disentomb, Psycroptic, Ouroboros, Internal Devour, Sadistik Exekution, The Mung, The Day Everything Became Nothing and many more... you mention metalcore?? lmao

I’m not too fond of the “kawaii” themed stuff either, as I’m mainly into prog, death, and some stuff in between. Band Maid really caught my attention right around the release of Unseen World because it was nostalgic to hear rock music that was sort of similar to what I was listening to in high school (Soundgarden, Audioslave, stuff like that) and some of their songs are pretty catchy. I was happy to see them back in October and I met some cool people and Jessica from Live Nation who works with the band regarding tour dates and promotion. I’m looking forward to seeing them, hopefully close to when I go to see Jinjer.

I know about them, I was just saying they are not just on the obscure side of things, but all over.

Ahem, and you failed to mention the greatest Aussie hard rock/metal band of all time, The Berzerker (never forget the rock kick)

How likely is Megadeth to go on tour again- given Dave Mustaine's age and history with cancer?

I've been a metalhead for a while but recently Megadeth has solidified itself as my all-time favorite band and Dave Mustaine's personal history and views on life are inspiring. I'd really love to go to a Megadeth concert once in my life as a bucket-list thing but it's probably going to be immensely expensive because I live in a frozen tundra literally above the arctic circle and with a incredibly tiny population so I'd assume they'd only be willing to play in a major population center/city, which means I'd have to book multiple flights and a hotel

Never been to any kind of music concert before either to admittedly idk how any of this works

Given my username you can probably guess I love Texas death metal, anyone ever heard of this weird ass band?

Mē◦āt◦َus

Basically theyre from Texas and play experimental brutal death. There was a lot of weird bands that took Devourment's style and put it through some weird avant-garde filter for whatever reason (Dripping is another band that did this). But just to cut to the chase, this is an incredible listen from start to end. Definitely recommend if you love genre-defying weird shit. Also there's 2 vocalists so that's neat too.

New Bell Witch. I like funeral doom (in doses) but I never could get into these guys. The album is just one song, nearly 90 minutes in length, which seems gimmicky to me but I suppose it's rewarding for those with more patience than I.

Was looking through the Record Store Day stuff today and saw Shadows Fall got a pressing. I remember them being big as a teenager, though I never paid much mind because I was never a metalcore guy. Decided to toss the album on for shits and giggles and it's surprisingly not bad, even though I don't like the harsh vocals much.
