New Castle Rat track and music video kicks ass. I love this sword & sorcery fantasy aesthetic. Wish mainstream fantasy went in this direction instead of the soft and gay shit we typically get where everyone talks like a 21st century Los Angeles resident with the sexuality to boot.

EDIT: Wait I'm fucking retarded this has been out for months lmao
I even met a older boomer type once who thought they were the most brutal thing ever.

I think it's a vocals thing. People outside of metal or people who only touch the surface of it tend to hyperfixate on vocals I find. Listening to instrumentation almost seems to be a learned skill.
This is a fair point. When you listen to metal for years, you learn to ignore the vocals unless they're really bad like in Vio-Lence.

Welcoming the virgins fair, to live a noble life
In the castle known to all - the count's internal wife
She invites the peasants with endless lavish foods
But, when evening spreads it wings, she rapes them of their blood

Not just hyperfixate, the music is written to encourage this. There is simply very little "music" in a pop backing track. Same reason why many metal listeners dislike deathcore, as it reduces the riff focus and puts more priority on vocal lines.

In preparation for Hells Heroes this year, I listened to their 1st studio album. It was alright. Only a couple tracks caught my ear. Their live performance was pretty good though. It captured my imagination and they had good riffs from time to time. Is their new album better than the first one?

Hey I like Sean Killian!

On my way to my Dad's for Thanksgiving this year, I listened to I Want Out by Helloween as the first song of my drive. Normally when I drive, I listen to full albums or playlists I've created (I don't like listening to mixes or playlists that I haven't curated myself), but that morning I let Spotify do an "automix" of suggested songs related to I Want Out. This came on shuffle. It has been many years since I've listened to Follow the Blind and I forgot that Kai Hansen has vocals on it! I was pleasantly surprised, one of my favorite voices in power metal. I've also always had a preference to Gamma Ray over Helloween.

^ so many Gamma Ray albums served as the soundtrack to my teenaged years. This one brings back many memories.

Love Gamma Ray, especially with Ralf Scheepers
Yes he sounds amazing, especially in that live video. It’s funny, a clip from that live performance was suggested to me on Instagram reels a couple weeks ago.

I didn’t like Primal Fear as much as Gamma Ray but they have some good ones too:

That Legend album is something of an underground classic - good stuff. Also, excellent find on Warlord. I had never heard of them before. I had to double check to see if it was the same Warlord that did Deliver Us (it is not). Reminds me a bit of Buffalo (AUS) or Bang.

Catching up on some stuff I missed from this year at work today.

One of Nine's Dawn of the Iron Shadow is fucking great. Patriarkh's Prophet Ilja is likely still my album of the year tho.

I tend to go through most releases that interest me towards the end of the year. This time it seems to be a bit underwhelming at first glance. But I will start listening through stuff and write a sentence or two regarding each album.

Not the biggest Viking Metal fan, but it always remained in my periphery. Manegarm is also a band that I have known for a long time. Great cover art and the LP is pretty decent after listening to the album for the first time.
