Yeah, it's terrible. I was never a Slipknot fan, I was in junior high when their self-titled album was released and I'd already moved on to death metal but I could appreciate the fact that they weren't a Korn clone
I stopped caring about Slipknot after the second album. Both albums have their moments and I'm sure the heaviest parts on Iowa got lots of people into death metal. I skipped the third one
That is the last true Slipknot album.
I personally don't listen to anything after that record. Vol. 3
I used to be facebook friends with the Suffocation guys, good dudes tbhSuffocation hanging out with Corpsegrinder and some other dudes the night before they recorded Effigy
I've been on a kick since the start of the year, love this band a lotI used to be facebook friends with the Suffocation guys, good dudes tbh
He mentioned in his Incantation video that he hasn't really listened to new Incantation.I wish RFI or similar would do an episode on later Incantation, nobody talks about that stuff. I've never found an access point, it sounded like self-tribute to me.
I have Tricennial, too. I agree, I found it pretty enjoyable. It's convenient, it brings together a lot of rare material I'm definitely not autistic enough to track down copies of, most of which is long out of print (I'm not one of those exhaustive collectors who needs every individual physical release of a particular band, that's too expensive and time consuming) and many of the unreleased songs are great. He mentioned in his Incantation video that he hasn't really listened to new Incantation.
A quick TLDR on it is their entire 00's era is just...okay. They've never really had a dud imo, but I struggle to really remember any tracks from this era.
Beginning with Vanquish in Vengence they had a renaissance period after going quiet for six years. Their 2014 album Dirges of Elysium is their strongest modern period album imo, pretty close to their Diabolical Conquest sound. Their next two Profane Nexus and Sect of Vile Divinites were...fine. Kinda Incantation treading water I guess.
Now I usually hit skip on compilations, but Incantation's next release Tricennial of Blasphemy should not be missed. Yes, it's a collection of split and bonus tracks that haven't been on their full lengths, but the whole thing is weirdly catchy and well done. I really enjoyed it.
Their most recent, Unholy Deification actually mixes things up a bit. It's been a bit since I read about it, but as I read I think John McEntee let the rest of the band have more creative input this time around, partiularly bassist Chuck Sherwood handling lyrics. The song titles have a really different look to them, and if you just showed me the track list I'd never have guessed this was an Incantation release. IDK, maybe that's just cosmetic faffery, but this one stood out to me more than anyting since Dirges.
This is probably some part of the future, whether we like it or not. Regardless, this kinda sucks.
I am okay with AI-powered music being its own subgenre. Eventually this will be practically no different to what DJ'ing and "remixing" was in the early '80s. That's how electronic music was eventually created, and its many many subgenres. This is probably some part of the future, whether we like it or not. Regardless, this kinda sucks.
Severe emotional distress has one of the goofiest fuckin videos I've ever seen for a metal band. One of my favorite bands. I think they formed after a close friend of their's was diagnosed with some incurable cancer. Their lyrics are mostly about loss, grief etc. They're hard to describe but it works very well. A bit melodic death + some thrash and power metal? They're insanely underrated. Not sure about their latest album, I think they lost their vocalist so unsure if theyre as good. I 100% recommend buying an actual cd or vinyl if its easily available.
