The 40 hour work week - Society is changing. Should our work schedules change too?

Imagine having a decently paid 9-5 job and still moaning like a faggot. Try shifts on a job that needs 24hr coverage, that's gay.

The 40 hour work week allows for a social life. It allows for time after work to square your shit away. Fuck, it allows for you to go pub after every work day sustainably.

Appreciate what you have niggers, some of us work shifts.

I used to have a gig where I worked four days a week but they were ten hour days and you'd work mon and Tues, Thurs and Friday and have sat, sun and Wednesday off. Fucking miss it so much.

Only left to find new work because the original employer retired and the people who took over decided to make it a standard 6am to 330pm monday through Friday job, only to go out of business in a year because they're retarded.

But I noticed such a change in my energy without those Wednesdays off and found myself more burnt out than anything by Friday.

Reminds me of when I got to my first command in the military. When I started the maintenance teams from various commands were consolidated into one large group across the base iirc, meaning they could get three days off because there was more than enough people to divide up the work equally. There was three shifts (morning, afternoon and nights) with two groups, a team that got sat thru sun off and another that got mon thru Wed off. These groups would swap days off every few months I believe.

Eventually it was decided to bring dedicated maintenance crews to their respective commands and our CO had such a retarded explanation as to why it's better for their morale if it was done that way.

Apparently with three days off, according to him, you'd spend the Friday off recuperating from working all week and the Sunday before going back to work preparing for the upcoming week (whatever preparing meant) meaning you only truly had Saturday off in his logic.

But if you got by his logic, you get no days off because now our maintenance team was working roughly 12 hour days Monday through Friday with a day shift and night shift.

Also it meant being called in a lot on weekends when before you always had a maintenance shift where now there was no large dedicated organization to insure there was always someone on base to fix issues that arised.

But what do I know, I was just a grunt.

have heard of jobs where you have "2 hour lunch breaks" which completely ruin any expectation of doing anything in a day that is not fucking around for those 2 hours or just doing more work

Management in some workplaces will tacitly encourage lengthier lunch breaks because they're unpaid and it helps them avoid having to pay for any overtime. The boss still has employees on site for 40+ hours every week, but they only get paid for 37.5. Favored employees can come in early or leave late to close the gap, but that can be hard to justify consistently at a job where they sit around and stare at a screen all day.

Had a friend who drove ambulances and was an EMT. Most companies are private. Wanna know what they made for saving people's lives? $13 an hour. Plus you need a bunch of certifications and have call hours.

You know in America if you need an ambulance how much you get billed? Usually $500-1,000....

They won't unionize either. It's fucked.

It really doesn't if you have a commute in heavy traffic and then you have to pick your kid up from daycare, go home and still have to do all the chores, make dinner, prepare yourself for the next day. Maybe you have an hour or two of downtime before bed and then have to get up and do it all over again.

I wasn't saying its easy, I'm just saying it's a lot more manageable than shift work. That 1 or 2 hours of downtime is a luxury lol, plus you get weekends. I miss weekends.

What makes jobs more bearable is working towards a goal, rather than small tasks over and over for a quota or a predetermined shift.
The only thing that makes my job tolerable is I like solving complex problems no one else can. As long as I got shit to do, I'm good.
One of the big sins is that "six figure salary" has none of the real life class benefits it used to carry
Six figures ain't what it used to be.
Do you waste more than an hour on commuting in traffic jams/public transportation?
Driving blows. Fuck cars.
How much do you socialize with your coworkers?
Why would I want to do that? It's work. Not a social club. Most of what I work with is old hens. There is no benefit in interacting with them. And I fucking hate making fake normie talk. Covid was the most satisfying time of my work life. Even though I worked two years straight without a day off, It was so nice not having to waste my time driving to work to be around people I don't like and stupid managers who have no idea what I do.
How much do you feel your work respects you and your time?
Don't care. I'm there for the paycheck.

Well maybe if you weren't a low IQ, low skilled loser you'd be able to make something of yourself and work a job where you were more than a fucking biological robot doing "shift work." Stupid britbong.

This is unemployed larp cope ngl.

Also, not all shift work is 80 IQ retards laying brick about or streetshitters working customer service. It's just a shift pattern that isn't 9-5 if that wasn't already obvious to all but the most afflicted autists.

TL;DR: you're a gay amerimutt

Sorry m8 that was a bit uncalled for of me. I apologize for that. I sense British. I see red. Simple as.

Sounds about right. Paramedics and EMTs work 72 hour shifts and get paid dogshit.

On a side note, are male paramedics / EMTs usually absurdly big and tall, while the women are tiny? This is what I’ve noticed during my time handling payroll for an ambulance service agency.

Paras (EMT-P) get paid $18-22+/hr right out of 2 year school. EMT, EMR get paid shit because you're not allowed to perform intrusive ops like trach tubes or IO/IV (Unless you get a cert... get paid maybe $1 more), also cause it is a lol 2 month course. AEMT (EMT-I) don't exist outside of very out of the way rural areas that pay shit and can't hire paras or have air ambulance service easily. It's been getting phased out to my memory.
Flight paras (I think those are RN actually) make bank and get to ride helos. The local fly-by-night county EMS in rural counties are great or terrible with no inbetween (Depends on the Chief and county politics), You'll some folks can be running old ass vehicles and radios while others will use new vehicles and encrypted digital radios that piggyback of signal towers.

The answer for the gender height question. For male EMT/Parameds that's not really true, lots of the shorter folks in EMS but the men are well built because we are expected to do most of the physical work, a lot of them work out between calls from my experience. The women are hired either because the service doesn't want to get sued for sexual harassment (Hint: They still will), have a chip on their shoulder to prove they can do what men do (And then get bailed out when they fuck up and blame the guys), couldn't make FF/Para, sleeping her way up the ladder into admin, badge bunnies or a mix/all of the above. Some departments don't hire women unofficially since that's technically illegal.

That's not even what sexual harassment is you fat retard. Plus, the way you wrote it sounds like the male Paras/EMTs are handsy faggots each other or their patients since theres no women hired but still sexual harassment 🤔

Personally, if you're going to shittily pay someone, work them dead, and they STILL want to do it because they love it, I support them doing it. Nobody works on a fucking ambulance for an easy life or luxurious retirement.

EMS is inherently "handsy" because you have to treat physical injuries? I'd be sued for malpractice if I decided to not treat someone who decided to do something like shove a sawzall dildo up their orifice. We have to deal with psychiatric emergencies (read: Currently batshit insane) folks all the time.
It takes exactly one person to make accusations to ruin your life as a man in this field. The hiring of female FF/EMS for this alone is a legitimate reason. If you have contact with a patient, you'll will be accused of harassment/assault at one point or another. If the accuser is a decent looking woman who can put a somewhat consistent story together and you don't have video evidence or a female co-worker? Good luck on that jury trial.

Anyone who consistently deals with shit like trying to take care of child rape victims, severed body parts, ground human paste on road and shit, are retarded, psychopathic, desensitized, coping, or a mixture of them all. Myself included. Some just decide to have copious amounts of sex instead of say, drinking themselves to death. They ought to keep it out of work though (My cope is laughing at cows).

And yes, FF/Para Badge bunnies are a thing (A PD example but I digress). They make the women who just want to work look bad but the men are also equally to blame for not having enough self-control to keeping it in their pants.

My favorite coworker is a guy who has a certain skill which the company values, and because of that he gets away with being rude and glib in situations where everyone else is expected to be "professional"; a manager once complained to me that the guy said "sorry, I wasn't paying attention, can you say that again?" during a work call, but that he couldn't do anything about it.

What makes him king of the office is that he is friendly to anyone who seeks him out for work stuff, but he doesn't bother socializing because he has nothing in common with anyone else, and also doesn't "network" because he is aware that he will never be promoted as long as the company needs him exactly where he is. He's out of the building without 90 seconds of clocking out while the others linger to add minutes to their shift, say goodbye to each other, or shoot the shit for a bit.
