The Alien TV show will be about classicism - We Wuz Xenomorphs

A dangerous creature, yet they do the sci-fi equivalent of a kid poking an animal in a cage with a stick to see if it will react.

Of all the things one does with such an important organism that is a huge asset to science and xenobiology, that is the best Weyland-Yutani can come up with? That is a pathetic letdown.
Remember this is the same corporation that, on learning the location of the perfect killing machine, decided to retrieve it by hoodwinking a bunch of space-truckers instead of just calling space-animal-control or space-hazmat. The Alien franchise only has one real plot (it's the exact same as the universally-mocked "weaponizing dinosaurs" thread from Jurassic World: Dominion) and it's retarded- the only reason it's allowed is because it's just an excuse for the horror elements, which is what we're actually here to see.

Re-watch Alien again. The point was to infect the people. The company absolutely sent the correct team in. Ash makes sure that one of them gets infected and then brings the organism back with its host intact. They wanted to see what happens when the organism infects someone and so they send in the space truckers knowing that Ash is programmed to get at least one of them infected. They reuse this plot a few more times in Alien 4 and Covenant. Ash is woken up before anyone else to review the mission and then activates the other pods and pretends he was asleep as well in the original script.

It is implied that they already sent in a ship and that they know what is on the planet. Eggs. This is why Ash was substituted as a science officer at the last minute. He is there to ensure the aliens survive and that they can infect the crew. Their entire space trucking journey was just a ruse by the company. In reality they were always going to be diverted to the 'distress signal' and told to investigate the ship. The company knows about the craft and the eggs before the truckers even start their journey.

The plan may have worked (well, the last part got away from them a bit) but that doesn't mean it wasn't a stupid plan. You have this unknown "perfect" organism that you want to bring back, so you send a handful of randos to get infected and just sort of hope everything works out like you want? With zero safeguards except an Android that doesn't seem to have any particular capability beyond knowing a bit more? That's a thin thread to hang your hopes on, especially when you have the resources for alternatives like "send a biohazard team to secure samples and conduct experiments in a controlled environment."

And if timeliness is an issue, remember that if the Company could substitute the android before they left, then they by definition had time to send an actual team to the site before they started the back leg of their round trip. This entire plan is insanely, unnecessarily convoluted, but it needs to be for the PT to happen (dangerous as they are, Xenomorphs have very little in the way of agency.)

I liked Noah Hawley's work on Legion and Fargo, so I think it's entirely possible they could get a good show out of this. But now that Disney owns Fox, it's more likely they'll screw it up.
