The Amazing Digital Circus - Western Isekai that probably will become Hazbin Hotel killer

the problem is not that they want to make money. the problem is that these disingenuous faggots keep calling these works "indie" when they're either backed by big corporations or they receive literal government funding, all the while ignoring actual independent web animation (Space King, Ollie and Scoops, umami's works, Talon, etc.)
If it does ever come out (kinda doubt it) that this whole thing was motivated by money I kind of have to ask, what happened with the cash from their contracts with Amazon from murder drones being on prime video and Netflix with tadc?

I'm not claiming to know everything about how deals like those work, or hell even how big time animation works in general, but that money had to be worth something right? And that's not even acknowledging the fact that I can't walk five feet in a booksamillion, second and charles, walmart etc. without encountering some sort of merchandise with pomnis face plastered on it and there's no way they aren't already making a fortune on that front

I would go see it but unfortunately the nearest theater is too far to justify it when I have more important things to do.

I think at this point, GLITCH Productions is an AA animation studio bordering on a AAA animation studio.
We're at a point now where to some people, indie means "Not owned by one of the big Hollywood conglomerates." (I.E. Disney, Comcast, Paramount, WBD, Netflix & Amazon if you want to count them.)

I was going to say this, Glitch isn't one guy on newgrounds making Mario vs sonic animations, it's a legit millionaire corporation with multiple IPs now.

Is Glitch Productions not indie? Like I know they’re big now, but previous to this, weren’t they just “the Gmod SMG4 guys”?

Like I’ll give you’re that not AS indie as the ones you named, but I wouldn’t exactly call them a big name company either.

I'd say absolutely not. You don't have to be disney to be a company and at this point glitch is absolutely one.

I saw this video on the western animation and glitch thread and i think it's worth posting here. It's about hazbin hotel but it applies to glitch.

The tl;dr: is that "indie animation" isn't sustainable.

Back then the corporations gatekept ideas on what animation is funded and not. Indie animators solved this by making a patreon and distributing on youtube. If you want to make money you will eventually become a creative slave of your patreon whale demands and youtube rules, thus the "gate" simply shifted.

But animation itself doesn't make money. You cannot "sell" a cartoon episode because no one would buy when they can watch youtube or a pirate website. Thus animation is not "the product" being sold, it's advertising for the actual product, which is merchandising and crowdfunding.

Merchandising requires "hyperfixation" of profitable demographics. People must love it enough to spend money on toys. Subscription platforms are crowdfunding but it's not purchase of content and downsizes audience so not ideal. You cannot monetize and audience you don't have, so you must first make free animation but to make that you need fund you don't have and won't make from animation as it doesn't make money.

Thus to be a "sucessful indie animator" you need 1-A pre-existing audience that is willing to watch and 2-Ownership of merchandise to generate revenue. Hazbin hotel didn't suddendly become popular. It was created by vivienne medrano who had her own fanbase and made animations. Then she made the HH pilot that went viral and THEN amazon called and now they sell a ton of merch.

Animation became more acessible but good animation requires talented creative artists so it never becomes cheaper or faster. The challenges of the market force creators to consolidate and merge to survive. The final combination will own everything at once, intellectual property, merchandise production and loyal audience.

Smaller creators cannot compete with that. They will want to join it to survive. What was originally one indie animator is now a whole conglomerate. A company/platform.

If that sounds familiar it's because that's what rooster teeth was and what glitch is becoming. In fact, Glitch expertly followed all the things the guy says. After every TADC episode you get a literal commercial for a new pomni and jax toy.

Isn't it curious how the last 3 shows glitch announced have pre-existing fanbases? "The one from owl house creator", "the one made in 2009 by that newgrounds animator" and "the one from that furry webcomic that had a pilot"? It reminds me that spindlehorse decided to make a homestuck cartoon instead of something original too.

Indie artists don't have money to make animation and animation does not make money. They cannot dub their cartoon in +10 languages, have top tier budget or sell overpriced merch on hot topic. The indie artist can only pray their talent and hardwork can bring a patreon.

Glitch was once an indie artist but not anymore. Glitch is now the publisher, the animation studio and the toy company combined. This is the logical evolution, the final stage of "indie animation". Zamination studios is trying to follow the same path by creating their own original cartoon but pulls their existing audience and Mr Puzzles from old SMG64.

I'll actually say glitch could be a lot worse because they still seem to have a soul and desire to support actual indie artists who deserve it. Like you said, it doesn't matter how greedy the company is as long as the show is free and high quality but now it isn't that free so it isn't that indie.

It's like how rooster teeth was cool and indie, until they left youtube for their own website and later asked you to pay to watch rwby a week early and it did irreperable damage to them. You shink your audience for money and you get less audience buying merch so LESS money.

No sane person wants to pay to watch cartoons, especially that was free before. You force them to pay and they will call you retarded and greedy, unless they were already pre-existing fans.

Like it kinda infuriates me cause you can tell blatantly how he's lying
The amount of theory videos that are just "I am autistic and I can't tell when a character is lying or being misleading because I am autistic" is insane.

There's no way that everyone is going to theaters for the Amazing Digital Circus.
Checked the nearest theaters to me (3-5 hours away) just out of curiosity. They're all sold out already.

Digital Circus being released early in theaters feels like what I said a while ago about Marvel stealing thunder from DC. and how it's essentially what Digital Circus is trying to do to Toy Story

By releasing the movie early, they can give TADC fans a small hit of dopamine from seeing how it ends, BUT since you can't pause a movie in theaters and would need to pay MORE money to see the movie again, fans would start going through withdrawal over not being able to rewatch the finale and go through it frame by frame to analyze every detail like usual, watch their favorite part, make memes, etc

That's when the Youtube/Netflix versions drop on June 19th. It'll cause all the tensity that's been building up to go all at once. All day for the next few days starting from June 19th, the fandom's going to go all out on discussing, gushing, and memeing on it.

That's not to say nobody's going to see Toy Story 5, but if you go on the internet to talk about "That movie about a bunch of toy/entertainment themed characters vs evil technology", it's all going to be drowned out by the buzz that the Digital Circus finale already built up.

Glitch isn't doing this for money, they're doing it for attention and clout. To goad people into making "INDIE ANIMATION KEEPS BEATING AAA" videos when Toy Story 5 doesn't impress as many people as Digital Circus does. To poison all online discussion about Toy Story 5 to being linked back to Digital Circus.

And look, I'm not super hyped about Toy Story 5, especially after Toy Story 4. But this is the kind of tactic you'd see the "GREEDY, SOULLESS corporation that DOESN'T CARE" would employ. not the "omg smol passionate indie group that just wants to make cool stuff".

lol are glitch retarded or something? release it early in a small handful of US cinemas so the ending of your biggest property to date can get spoiled weeks before the global release. its mind blowingly retarded :story:

i wonder if someone will make a shitty camrip via filming in portrait on phone while autists scream in the background, i would think that was funny.
I honestly suspect this HAS to be them trying to milk every last bit of cash out of it (despite the costs to show these especially in somewhat larger cinema's, since you are not getting the 100% paycut unlike with merch which is where a majority of the sales are (maybe the netflix rights gets a bit more? idk how it all prices out)) before it goes bust. Cooper does not want to work on another season so they know that this is it and that the cashcow is going to be gone soon. Any negative PR will be outweighed by the money they will earn. Remember, the lerdwichugual brothers have degrees in business, not animation. They at the heart are businessmen.

the iron lung thing isn't going to work. thats a self contained movie, this is the final episode of a web series. two totally different things.
There's no way that everyone is going to theaters for the Amazing Digital Circus.
It worked for Iron Lung. If anything, it's getting a cinema release because of Iron Lung.

Markiplier and the fanbase had to fight to get the movie shown in theatres. Markipliers playthrough has 16m viewers, compared to TADC's 120m. TADC likely won't have the same conversion rate as Mariplier's fanbase, but the larger pool means it could make similar money if not more. I don't know what Glitch spends to make an episode, but I'm guessing they'll make money on it if it breaks a million.

I hope it comes to the UK. I'd see it.

I wonder what the audience will be like. When I saw Iron Lung, everyone was well behaved. There wasn't any disinterested normies on their phones or people talking about bullshit. Everyone was locked in on the movie.

Imagine the poor soul in the theater who has never heard of TADC and only bought a ticket because of how excited everyone else was to see this movie.

Sitting in a movie theater with fans of this show, watching the final episode feels like the modern version of the torture the Vietnamese would give GI's until they'd willingly kill themselves.

I am sorry I made a mistake. Cooper is a MAN. He is a biological MALE and will NEVER EVER be a woman. He is a FAGGOT with AGP.
Kevin Lerdwichugual has a degree in business, Luke Lerdwichugual has a degree relating to art.
You cannot tell me the decision to "put this in theatres" was done as an artistic decision, this is purely one born out of business.

Glitch isn't doing this for money, they're doing it for attention and clout. This is assuming a not gayer more retarded version of chicken jockey happens and nothing crazy occurs when TADC hits theatres (x to doubt, obviously). I think the other pertinent topic at hand is if the buildup to it is sufficient as people are already shitting all over it en masse. There is already an exhausted feeling of dread for anything "indie" now, this theatre release only cements that. It is not "indie" it is "faggot tumblr AA studios".

Officially uploaded version
If the show ends with the characters eating Jax rabbit stew, it'll be worth it.

yeah this isn't gonna result in rabid fans screaming at random places to show this there. What a fucking dumpster fire waiting to happen :story:. The guys behind this have NO CLUE how the internet works with shit like this.
"AMC Theater. How can I help you?"

HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS?"
So the Twitter reactions I’m seeing are essentially non-TADC fans making jokes about how cancerous the theaters are gonna be and TADC fans mad that Glitch just straight up lied to them.

I'm considering it solely to be a guy who documents the people at the event.
How many do you think will go in cosplay?
I'm calling the ending now: The focus on Jax in all this promo material is because once they can conjure whatever they want without Caine's restrictions, Jax goes on a power trip and has to be killed before he fucks up everything/kills everyone in the circus akin to a suicide pact.
Or a power vacuum forms that he somehow fills. Maybe he gets Caine's powers?
"God is dead, but we have eachother"

will be the message of the show. Locked in for the bet.
I hate how probable that sounds with millennial writing these days.
Also, seeing how much centered around Jax the entire thing is, I don't really have high hopes for the finale to be any good. Them trying to make him a second protagonist feels obnoxious
Well, people who saw him in a maid dress thought he looked hot, so we're stuck with him.
What is the Amazing Digital Circus?
I'll do you one better, WHY is The Amazing Digital Circus?
There's no way that everyone is going to theaters for the Amazing Digital Circus.
You underestimate the power of weirdos.

Would it be more accurate to call them third-party studios at this point?
That's not to say nobody's going to see Toy Story 5, but if you go on the internet to talk about "That movie about a bunch of toy/entertainment themed characters vs evil technology", it's all going to be drowned out by the buzz that the Digital Circus finale already built up.
Reminds me of the studio that thought Alvin and the Chipmunks would get more tickets than Star Wars.
Imagine the poor soul in the theater who has never heard of TADC and only bought a ticket because of how excited everyone else was to see this movie.
Or the theater workers who have to sit through multiple showings.
