The Awful Fursuit Thread - Viewer beware, you're in for a scare!

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
So an interesting update regarding the blue bodysuit with a creepy head I posted on the last page:

Looks like the auction was deleted between when I first posted about it a couple of days ago and now. However, I googled the dealer's den account that posted the auction, and the image results led me to an older auction with uncensored images.

Again, I don't think it's a terrible suit by any means. But seriously, why would you EVER think it's a good idea to wear that to a school?

Creepy as all hell, not in the bad pervert way but in the "holy shit it's a monster!" way.
Great for general costume stuff and especially effective at halloween, but not exactly the type of thing to wear around little kids who will now be deathly afraid of any mascot suit from here on out lol.
Just look at the teeth of that thing, i still find it funny how it contrasts with the overal cutesy design and color scheme of the suit.
460 bucks for a full suit is also a remarkable deal i think, sure it's a little worn but definitely on the cheaper end when it comes to fursuits.

Ngl this would look pretty sick if you changed the kiddy pastels into something like blacks and greys or oranges for a more fittingly Halloween costume.

Not necessarily awful but certainly silly, a lot of effort for what it is that's for sure.

How big of an invader Zim fan do you have to be to spend the material cost and labor to make something like this is what i'm wondering.
I like how goofy he looks, personally. But the pinpoint eyes absolutely do not work in this style.

Found this gem on FA, this falls squarely in the uncanny valley catagory.

In all fairness from what i could gather the idea is that you aid the costume with make-up, and the build quality and fur aren't too bad.. but holy shit this looks uncanny.
Human eyes just don't really work well for costumes like this imho.

That looks like Magpiebones' work. It doesn't bother me much and it definitely looks much better with eye makeup . There's a sort of fantasy/renfair vibe to her work which is a welcome break from the sparkledogs and hyper-toony shit. Plus it generally looks well-crafted.

Yeah, personally not a huge fan of the "human eyes with makeup" thing but i can see how this is far more fitting in that sort of setting.
Build quality and whatnot are not bad at all and it's very clear it's meant to be something different from the toony suits that are so commonplace.
Still looks uncanny though without the makeup, curious to see some of Magpiebones' work now though, the sort of suits you see at such events are really cool, think fireflicker is one of my faves.

Big Booba Horse is starting to look rather crusty dusty...

Yes, Carpet Warehouse - your finest shaved shag carpet please!
She'd make a fuck ton of glue.

I've been staring at this headshot in pure confusion trying to figure out what on earth causes a fursuit to have discoloration like that around the mouth. I've seen plenty of fursuits, but never an issue like that before. Not only does it extend to the cheeks, but if you look closely at the forehead, there's some additional discoloration on the brown fur where it touches the muzzle as well.

Here's my theory: the fur on the muzzle was originally solid brown. Someone decided to paint it white, and some of the paint accidentally got onto the cheeks. They tried to play it off as part of the design and slapped some more paint on there to make it look like freckles. It would be a clever way to cover up a mistake if not for the fact that it's incredibly obvious up close, and the spots are much more faded when compared to the "mistakes" on the muzzle. The fact that the fur on the hand is a different shade of white only makes this more obvious.

Protip for any furries lurking in this thread: Don't paint or airbrush your suit's fur. It's just not worth it. Even if you miraculously manage to not get a drop of paint in the wrong spot, it's a pain in the ass to maintain, as most cleaning chemicals commonly used to clean fursuits (eg "fursuit spray" or alcohol) will cause the paint to run or smear, like what happened to the giant horse-titty suit here.

While we're at it, don't use short fur as the horse suiter did. One of the advantages of having medium-to-long fur on most fursuits is that it helps to hide imperfections, specifically seam lines. When you view this suit in bright lighting, the lines are so prominent that it reminds me of one of those old diagrams showing what parts of a cow you cut up for different types of meat:

To me? Absolutely indistinguishable.
