Anyone who has heard about this has probably seen the above video. If you haven't give it a watch. I was surprised to learn it was created by a high school student who was just fucking around with Blender/some VFX software in their free time. I think the entire thing is CGI, with some real elements edited in. Extremely well done IMO.
As much as the cheap ass jumpscare in this video ruins the entire thing, the rest of the series is very well done and the story behind them is alright. It's basically a Resonance Cascade type of ordeal, where a bunch of scientists fuck up and cause a major disaster they have no idea how to deal with, where in an attempt to create a fed funded storage solution they create the Backrooms and also create spots around the world where you can fall through and into the Backrooms, so it's definitely better than "the Backrooms exist and you need to like noclip through the world like in Gmod to get there". I just hope the kid won't get snatched by Hollywood, because it would be a waste of a good talent. And I hope he will never do jumpscares again because it just ruins the videos.

What is with all these explainer type channels now? Can zoomers not read anything? It is not like any of this is super secret lore. All this backrooms stuff is just wiki articles and videos. I could understand for a marble hornets type ARG, but this is SCP redux with less creativity.

I can't blame the guy for exploiting a niche, but I've never been a fan of sticking cartoon avis into videos. It makes me think this guy was a commentary channel before the algorithm picked up on his backrooms videos.
Because Zoomers want to join in the fandom/conversation without actually putting work in watching/reading the actual works. Posers, or something along the line
On Broogli:
Seems alright, can't stand the people that use animated figures or webcams on these videos though. It's kinda gay. At least he sounds normal but I can't watch his videos front to back at all.

Zoomers can't form opinions on their own. Herd mentality is very strong in zoomers and kids stay suggestible and impressionable for much longer these days. It scares them to have their own take most of the time so it's easier just to follow a hivemind opinion. There's also not much to read right now, being a story with no real central lore. 'The Backrooms' comes across as more of a writing prompt or world-building foundation than anything else in my opinion.

There are a number of other channels putting out mid to high quality content based around the Backrooms as well. Frag 2, TJB Digital, Sobog to name a few.

Decide what you think for yourself, obviously. I'm not a huge fan of ones that include the monsters and stuff but it's cool nonetheless.

Got around to watching Kane's backrooms series. Surprised by the depth of it and how impressive whatever he's using for the cg and how realistic he has made it look. My first assumption is a heavily modified version of GTA 5 like is done for some of those SCP MTF-team videos, though I cannot be for sure.

The backrooms is supposed to be a glitch in reality that is rare to get into right? Now they're basically sending in an SCP teams to investigate which seems to defeat some of the spooky nature of the story, at least from what I see; probably just another consequence of trying to create lore for the sake of it.

The idea of the "backrooms" seemingly varies from creator to creator but the core concept remains the same. In Kane Pixel's interpretation it seems that the backrooms were the result of something like a weird resonance cascade and a corporation sends scientists in to investigate it. The whole thing is more of a man-made horror that was created rather then some easily explained "glitch in reality" that you can noclip into.

Yeah I got to experience it live. The ARG elements were pretty fun while the story was still going. Stuff like the livestream (which was a novel thing back then) where people showed up with purple tape over their mouths or bodies being dragged and the guys "not noticing" was fun. The EMH cast was definitely the most likable of the three big shows and it was a lot of fun being a part of the developing story.

Like I said before, things went south with the Seven Trials of Habit. The actual content pretty much stopped. The guys got voted out of the trials pretty quickly, and IIRC they encouraged getting themselves voted off. So that whole "arc" was a bunch of random dudes doing random things Jeff thought up every couple months. I think the real explanation for it was one of them moved away for a while, but even after that I felt like it wasn't the same anymore. I don't really think Jeff planned out an ending.

Jeff dying, Evan turning into the edgiest version of the Joker ever, and Vince being a secret asshole didn't sit well with me. I don't really feel like Slenderman and the Rake ended up having a point. It seemed like Habit took over the whole plot once he fully possessed Evan. And if, like me, you viewed him as only slightly above Jeff the Killer as far as 2edgy OCs go, that sucks.

The ending basically being "Well guys, you failed like you've failed every other iteration. Better luck next time!" left me feeling like I'd wasted 10+ years of investment.
I hear yeah the story become so weird at the end. That you forget it was even a slenderman series

Sometimes less is more and this is part of the problem with memetic internet horror concepts, often halfway decent ideas with strong if simple execution (what if there was a glitch in reality/a strange entity/etc.) but they're seized upon by people attempting to snap on extra lore and monsters and elaborate backstories that make them overly complicated and seem designed only to appeal to the kind of folks who must have every detail catalogued in a fan wiki.

Popularity for internet horror concepts are a double-edged sword. The larger amount of exposure leads to more innovative creative types getting their eyes on it and this can lead to brilliant creations but at the same time due to the advent of social media the concept and any video on it becomes a money printer and this can lead to lazily implemented ideas being attached to the original concept. In practical terms using Five Night's At Freddy's as an example (though any internet horror game/trend in the past 10 years should work) think of the former as stuff like:
For comparison, here is the latter (the more trend chasing style of content):

I only really like the Backrooms as a meme and a premise. Like haha dude what if you double back jumped so hard irl that you noclipped out of reality and now you’re stuck in a 1AU labyrinth of empty office space from the 90s haha. Trying to attach an analog horror ARG to a series of creepy, vaguely esoteric images of empty spaces is tryhard and cringe.

But then again I think ARGs are cringe in general so I’m clearly not the target market for this kind of stuff.

When I see the Backrooms I think of the red room from Twin Peaks

I like liminal space stuff, cosmic horror, and I like Twin Peaks. Especially the more trippy parts like with Phillip Jefferies. So I like the Backrooms. Don't like trying to make it more comperhensible and "studied," ruins the allure. I liked how TP basically became even more incomprehensible and vague on its horror stuff the further it went, didn't try to demystify it.
