The Backrooms (+ Wiki) - Level 80085: The Kiwi Farms

How many other versions of the backrooms should there be? Is the yellow wallpaper hallways the only essence of the original backrooms worth keeping, or should it manifest as other environments as well? I agree that "levels" sounds too video-gamish, but how else should different backrooms sections be referred to?
I have this idea that it would be Interesting to have the backrooms we see be part of a larger mirror world, like the unused version of our modern world where everything is both familiar and foreign.

So imagine you somehow find your way into the backrooms and you manage to exit the yellow hallway hell, only to be greeted by a empty city, it looks vaguely like Chicago or some other major American city, but nothing is how you remember it, its all slightly off from real life, blank street signs, missing manholes and crosswalks, like the entire city got left unfinished before someone just stopped working on it. I realized about half way through writing that that it kinda sounds like the upside down from Stranger Things, but that isn't what I'm going for, the backrooms is basically the unfinished beta world of ours, the basic layout is there, but every detail is slightly different.

There's an old SCP article (pre-pozzening) about almost exactly this same idea that I really liked but I'm unable to find it. The city extended in every direction for a couple dozen miles but became increasingly jumbled and unfinished the further you went from the entry point. There was a whole story about a task force being forced to survive in this city because they were unable to leave, and eventually some hostile entities appearing to attack them.

Also being "creeped out" by completely prosaic things like being alone in an empty space. Oh wow imagine if you weren't surrounded by people to offload some of the burden of uncertainty off onto? Spooooooky. You may have to navigate the area on your own! What if your phone died? Shit keeps me up at night.
Now you're just being too harsh. The fear of being alone in a world with no hope of getting out is a fairly common fear to have. We're social creatures and we could go mad if we don't have anyone to interact with.

In the beginning, the backrooms pretty much played on that fear. It wasn't realistic in the slightest, but the idea was enough to unnerve someone.

Yeah, that's the reason why putting prisoners in isolation is often considered a form of torture.

Humans go a little crazy when completely cut off from everyone else.

What is with this retarded lore shit, God damnit I fucking hate zoomers.
I think it's just a "young people" issue rather than a generational one. Young people don't yet have a filter for quality, they just want more of the spooky thing.
(Also it's not zoomers, it's gen alpha who likes this shit at this point).

The problem with the backrooms and any new horror setting, especially Fnaf, is a lot of creators that are aware of the internet and know film or game theory want Matpat to make a video so it can blow their numbers up. Like back in the day with the Hello Neighbor game was completely ruined when Mat started to cover it and they badgered him into making videos. Game got worse and worse over time and when it fully came out it was such a convoluted fuck fest(along with a ton of technical issues) that if flopped. Despite that you can find and buy tons of shitty HN merch and the concept of a horror game with #deeplore went out the window.

I really used to like game and film theory because I thought it was an interesting way to look at the forms of media I enjoyed. But now indie horror has ruined his channel and I feel like his viewer demo's age doesn't even end with "teen".

I know this got away from the backrooms but I feel like this falls under discussing DeEp lOre in the backrooms. It was cool at first and now I've been soured on it again.

Tl;dr I blame Matpat for everything and young people are afraid yellow.

Wtf is that shit?! Why the backrooms need rulers or order? The backroom was like this limbo halfway finished.... It didn't have levels or people or organizations or shit like that. What the fuck is the purpose of it? It's not scary...

An endless yellowish tinted backrooms, alone, confused and most importantly, knowingly you are utterly fucked is what makes it scary.... Not elder gods or creatures.

New Kane's Backrooms video, it's directly following the events of the last video after the shot was fired.
Whoever wrote the voiceover is too young to have experienced corpo hell presentations, and it brings the whole thing down. Nobody ever makes a mistake or has an accident in corpo hell, you have to spin it in 100 empty words that say nothing. Be absolute, and lie when necessary. Example: The guy wasn't found dead on their property of an apparently accidental head injury on their poorly maintained lawn. After exiting the facility, but before he came into contact with the general public, he died of self-inflicted accidental injuries. That's all anybody needs to know. Company etiquette is to not disclose information about former employees, that violates privacy policies and leads to gossip and misinformation.

So apparently they actually found the original image, which was of some place that got converted to a Hobbytown raceway or whatever. Expect a bunch of videos and the place to be swarmed by a host of people calling and visiting to locate the coveted room where the photo was taken in the coming days / weeks and ruining it for everybody.

Don't really know what more to say really. I guess it's cool that this wholly autistic quest is finally over but the backrooms is growing really stale and there's no one like Kane Pixels to try and do something new with the concept anymore. It just feels like a hollow victory honestly.

E: My bad I posted the original url not the web archive

The linked page is deleted now for some reason, here is an archived version of it.

Damn, the backrooms well has run dry already.

Y'all talk about making a game out of this aesthetic. Someone did something similar, only with "pool rooms" instead of backrooms proper. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2663530/POOLS/

It's a "boring" walking simulator, but I found it immersive and enjoyable. Has its moments, if you can get over the premise that you're just traversing a maze, more or less.
