'Tis the season. Schlafly's Pumpkin Ale. A slice of pumpkin pie in beer form.

For Octoberfest, there is Paulaners Marzenbier. Sadly, there are no decent Marzenbiers brewed in the USA ( that I know of). It is, or was, all about IPAs, and now the whole sour beer fad is emerging.

Otherwise, Troegenator and Dreamweaver from Troegs Brewery. And Mad Elf Ale for Christmas. Or just Genesee Cream Ale for the perfect summer beer. Inexpensive and available in 30 packs.

There are some fairly tasty goses and sours, and some incredible dessert sours. Beats the hell out of yet another "hop-forward" IPA that just scours your palate.

As for things suitable for Oktoberfest, there are a bunch of decent Marzen offerings from American brewers, though I find that Paulaner's Marzen is notably less expensive while still being quite good and very much available from any decent liquor store.

ugh, i love that beer. they don't sell it where i live; my best friend used to pick some up for me before he moved.

luckily, i find that whole hog pumpkin ale is very similar (actually i prefer it!) and i can buy it locally. i haven't had a pumpkin beer in a couple years now, but i think i'll pick one up this time around!
 
If my brother had a Kiwi Farms account, he would totally post in this thread.
 
Payday Monday can hardly wait to stock my fridge with the cold stuff can't believe 47 beers didn't last me two weeks
 
Sorry to double post but nobody else Is saying anything in this thread anyway just bought a new mug and some beer to break it in with.

Good stuff, but there are just 6 breweries fitting the season, and Weihenstephan is not one of them.
also try their vitus if you can find it. realy, realy nice stuff.
 
I'm a fan of Klosterbrauerei Scheyern, a smaller Bavarian brewery, but some really nice stuff. The Doppelbock is really good and the Export is also top notch.

Does any here like dark lagers? I just discovered them and they are better then normal lagers.
 
Went ahead and tried a fireweed-honey blonde I'd been curious about. Honestly not bad, not much of the fireweed to it but perfectly drinkable blonde. Classier lawnmower beer.
 
I've been enjoying some seasonal beers as of late.

My favorite pumpkin beers are Southern Tier's Pumpking and Warlock. Warlock in particular is my favorite. It's an imperial pumpkin stout, and it's delicious-- definitely a pumpkin pie in beer form. Both of these are pretty strong, so I typically take a while to drink through my stock throughout the Fall. I like to indulge in these during the weekends.

The Great'ER Pumpkin from Heavy Seas Brewery used to be my #1 favorite pumpkin beer, but I think they fucked around with it in recent years. It's an imperial pumpkin ale aged in bourbon barrels. It used to be a perfect blend of pumpkin, spice, malt, bourbon, and vanilla. For a few years, I would hoard this stuff and enjoy it throughout the holidays as well. It paired fantastically with Thanksgiving Dinner, let me tell you. Unfortunately, nowadays, the beer tastes too boozy; it completely overpowers the pumpkin. I don't mind a boozy beer, don't get me wrong, but The Great'ER Pumpkin no longer stands out as a seasonal, in my opinion.

Some of my Fall "everyday go-tos" are Sam Adams Oktoberfest and Dogfish Head's Punkin Ale. They've been go-tos of mine for well over a decade now, and they never disappoint. When I don't feel like trying new things, these are my defaults.

Blue Moon's Pumpkin Ale ain't bad either. It's a good cheaper alternative compared to other craft beers.
 
The best seasonal craft beer I've had is the Blizzard of 78 from Wormtown Brewing Company. It's brewed with coffee beans which gives it a nice underlying flavor.
