The Beer Thread

My father-in-law got me a couple of cans of this to go with our Good Friday chippy tea. It is pretty good actually.
Yeah I was really surprised with how decent they were, they do creep up on you though. Sadly my local doesnt stock them anymore so having to make do with skol supers.

Perhaps y’all can help me: when I was in Europe, I had the best beer in my life (Augustiner, I believe it was the standard lager). They generally only sell them in kegs for commercial operations in Europe, but not in the USA. I believe they sell it in bottles but anyone know if they’re good and how to get them in the USA?

...From what little I can remember, unless you can get an importer here to take an interest in it it'd be difficult to get it stateside without pissing off customs.

Though I wonder if you could get it into Canada and then it just kind of finds its way over into the US. Probably illegal. Not a lawyer or customs agent, though.

James Rolfe was on to something rolling rock and yuengling are damn good American beers. Rolling KS a lot lighter and and crisp than yuengling , but I see why that beer is darker and a little more heavy, almost like an ale compared to the pilsner is lager rolling rock is.

Nothing wrong with that. I mean, you need 30 of them to get a buzz, but they are quite refreshing.
nonono... you take the cheap extra strong IPA and mix it with more expensive local soda.

I like radlers quite a fucking lot and I don't care who knows.
The real deal is very nice if its real hot, but you cant get Hell in the US for a decent price so i would suggest northern Pils or 40% IPA

Bit sad to hear this. Always thought hop house was decent. Would usually get one in between a few pints of the usual shite as a palette cleanser.

Definitely bad news, Hop House 13 was one of those beers that got a tap in pretty much every pub so you were always guaranteed a semi-decent pint even if their selection of guest ales were shit.

I can understand them taking a hit during the pandemic despite soaring alcohol sales since people will just buy the cheapest case of lager if they're just going to be drinking in the house.

It's strange how they're discontinuing it now just as the pubs start to open again. Surely they could continue it to at least see if they can make some of those losses back.

I might invest in a few cases and see if I could sell them later at an inflated price. I missed out when they lowered the sugar in Irn Bru and people were selling cans at extortionate prices.

I can see the appeal of it in summer. What about witbeers like Hoegarden?
Hoegaarden is nice enough though I personally would rather shell out the little bit extra for the St. Bernardus Wit because it is such a nice summer beer.

Try Franziskaner and have it with a spicy curry. It's fuckin' amazing.
I want to try that Brick lane curry, phaal. I doubt I could take it, though. You Europeans are lucky as you get lots of cheap Polish beer. Which isn't worse than Australian macro brews like VB.

I tried a hazelnut flavoured bitter the other night, it was really bad, too over flavoured, frankly. The New England style IPA I had was better and I hate IPAs

You can find Augustiner Brau Helles in some specialty beer stores in the US but it isn't exactly the same beer, its their export formula which is more or less the same malt base and hopping regimen just amped up slightly. It's rather expensive though, never seen it under $14.99 a six pack and it's usually more.

Rolling Rock is probably the least offensive of all the 'skunk' beers. It is good to drink once a blue moon, but not something I like to routinely have. That being said, Yuenglings is by far the best 'cheap' domestic in the nation. Even though the Yuengling family doesn't seem interested in selling, I rue the day Pabst or Anheuser-Busch give them enough dump trucks full of money to turn the brand over to them to ruin like Pabst did with Rainier Beer.

Polish beer is just okay and not that cheap...

Used to live across town from a liquor store that had a plethora of odd Eastern European beers. If I had to pick a brewery, I'd have to pick Baltika. They're still relatively cheap where I'm at and the #9 tastes pretty good for an 8%.
