I'm also fairly sure I've seen her elsewhere tied to betterhelp by name as a part of their company, but I can't find it so take that with a pinch of salt.

As an aside, she annoys me. She is a marriage councillor, but she comes on to the Shane Dawson video claiming to be a clinical psychologist. I happened to watch the videos with actual doctors and their take was that she has the knowledge and understanding of someone who has no education and simply read a wikipedia article. All she is doing, in fact, is reading from the diagnostic manual, misunderstanding how said diagnostic manual works (suggesting she has never used it before), and stating very heavily disputed "facts" as though they were accurate. And whilst I'd like to say Shane wasn't educated and clearly doesn't understand mental health, their take was that he knows what he is doing is inaccurate and is purposefully cutting up the interview to make it seem worse along with purposefully twisting the explanations.

She portrays herself as a clinical psychologist, her linkedin even states that she has spent some time to at least a minimal degree inside a clinical setting, but from what I was told she likely just sat inside the interviews as a trainee then left (timing suggests it was intentionally to learn the basics of clinical psychology for betterhelp) and she displays an incredibly obvious lack of understanding towards anything that would make her qualified as far as clinical psychology goes (such as her involvement in betterhelp). A lack of understanding shown beyond just the Shane interview, that is.

I suppose this would be a failed data mining operation then, since that would certainly be in violation of HIPPA. Doctors aren’t even allowed to transmit doctors notes between each other without the patients permission. At least, the company is claiming to get licensed therapists and not counselors or someone without qualifications.

Edit: I’m also not sure what law it is, but they are also required to follow laws that require very unique types of security. There is a reason doctors offices still use fax machines, and it’s not just because many of them are old. Specifically it’s to prevent the illicit use of patients information, so I suppose a giant lawsuit is coming if they think a small clause in their ToS would cover them selling your data.

HIPPA only requires patient consent to data sharing. But there is this fun blackhole of patient data that exists pre-HIPPA disclosures and post-patient privacy act (which was passed in the...90s? - HIPPA is actually the law that covers the enforcement of a previous law that congress passed but forgot to actually assign penalties for - woops.). And otherwise data for which a signed HIPPA disclosure doesn't exist for. This stuff is almost impossible to move or share, and is generally a huge fucking headache.
But if a Doc has been treating Mrs. Declane for 60 years, her last 10 years or so of patient records can be shared "for billing or the good of the patient with authorized parties (other docs and insurance orgs)", but the 50 years before that are almost impossible to transmit. And any notes or records that make reference to anything in her record pre-HIPPA disclosure signing also cannot be transmitted.

Which is why they use faxes, as an encrypted fax machine will give you a non-forgable receipt verifying transmission - or more specifically, if someone is caught fucking with the fax machine or the telephone line, there are documented and well-laid out criminal punishments for the offending parties. You could get the same level of security (or better) with modern encryption, but the case law hasn't caught up to that yet & no one is jumping to be the carnary in the coal mine when an encrypted fax machine in a locked room only costs a few hundred bucks.

Data WITH a signed HIPPA just has to be transmitted security, to an authorized party, and any intercept has to be reported ASAP. If you include a form on your patient sign in sheet that says "Oh, BTW, we're going to turn skynet loose on your medical records" and you sign, they can datamine your patient records all day long.
(Now, the fun part is they have to treat it like research, which means they have to allow people to withdraw consent at any time.)

the talking points thing is interesting. the most recent round of shilling doesn't seem to work from this document and the talking points seem to have changed. It lines up with Andy's timeline that this documents represents the talking points from a year ago, as there are a few higher profile examples of people obviously using them as a reference. another one with lots of views is this ASMR thot. i cant stand the sound of that ASMR stuff so couldnt be bothered to make a video but here is the original. at one point it becomes painfully clear she's reading from the document.


On a more general note, it seems that 2017 was the first time they did a big advertising push in the late summer leading up to world mental health day (10 October). last year, they targeted mid-tier YTers. The "Examples/Insipration" from the Talking Points pdf link to videos with generally under 50k each.


This means that they did the exact same thing last year that people noticed this year, only the numbers were smaller. I guess this time around they wanted to go after bigger yt'ers with wider audiences, which i can only imagine they did because it worked so fucking well last time. Last year they were able to fly under the radar, but this year they got greedy and tried to do the same with big yters but got caught.

i agree don't hope/ask for jim to make the video. in the first place, it's kinda cringe. in the second place, @Mr Care is right that he probably wouldnt just to spite those who asked for it, and he never makes videos "because people have asked him to" except for i guess the tgwtg series, but that was for his patrons. in the third place, i dont think the topic would do well for a jim video. you can't really "make fun of" this, which is what jim is most good at. it just needs to be exposed, and it has been by many. unless the founder is a pants-shitting daiperfur, i dont see any reason for a jim video on this.

He said he started to use it on June 7, that's a 11 days not 6 week like he said in the stream or 2 month which he tweeted between trying and shilling it.
