Apollo isn't a great messiah - he's an African Grey who gets /constant/ training. Experiments with Alex by Dr. Irene Pepperberg showed heightened intellectual prowess on par with 7 year old human children (but maturity halts at around 3 year old levels). So they're hyper-intelligent toddlers.

If you constantly train a Grey, they will be as Apollo is. Due to my last career and current obligations, my Grey is treated more like a companion pet and less like a training experiment, so he doesn't perform as Apollo does - but thanks to the last year of radio exposure while he's in the house unsupervised, he knows the Old Spice jingle flawlessly, understands that the radio can be turned off by pressing the power button, and hates Nickleback (he will shriek and then turn the radio off when they come on). He swiftly solves 'smart bird' toys for treats because he's a gluttonous whore and then grows tired of them, so for the most part he gets small toys he can demolish because that brings him joy. He also praises himself after doing something he enjoys, and whenever anyone comes into the room he greets them and then squawks 'Peanut please!' with the expectation that he gets treats for being polite.

Unrelated, but is there any website that can download youtube video up to 720p for free? The ones I find always stuck at 480p.
Instructions are there for both Linux and Windows. It's probably the most feature-rich tool out there for scraping youtube, but there's a bit of a learning curve if you're new to CLI tools.

I saw a flock of roseate spoonbills the other day, when I was driving back from my vacation. They were a lot taller than the normal spoon ills I've seen... Or maybe my perception was wonky, because I was seeing them from afar. Still. I thought they were flamingos at first lol

I didn't have time to get a photo, so please take these cute finches as a tax.

>I haven't seen Alex and Dominic the cockatiels in a while, let's check up on them
Alex died.
>I haven't seen Kiwi and Pixel the budgies in a while, let's check up on them
Kiwi died.
>I haven't seen Mikey and Mia the macaws in a while, let's check up on them
Their owners dumped them in a zoo so they could fuck off to New Zealand.

*sigh*

We still have Gumi.

Emperor Featherbutt of Assholio likes parrot documentaries, but doesn’t know what to think about Rio.

The african grey parrot on YouTube? I'd like to believe he's truly saying "schrock" in response to rocks and Shrek to cheat the system.

For thread tax, I recently discovered that the smooth-billed Ani exists and they're very close to how I imagine dinosaurs looked.

Tell me this isn’t an actual damn dinosaur

(It’s a shoebill stork)
They’re huge

And freaky. They decapitate their prey.

I'll see your Shoebill and raise you a cassowary.

They love getting a shower

Geese!

More geese

I’ve had almost NO birds in my yard for the past few weeks. Just an occasional titmouse

And hummingbirds

Like someone flipped a switch and they all just disappeared overnight. I put out fresh water every day but it was like a ghost town out there. Then a couple days ago a sparrow family showed up to get a bath and a drink… then today ALL the birds came back at once. Cardinals, finches, titmice, chickadees, a whole family of bluebirds, a wren and even a pair of downy woodpeckers. Like someone flipped the switch back on. Crazy.

Barred owl

I love their vocals. Sometimes I hear them at night if I’m out walking.
