I think we all know why Mothers Milk origin story has to be bastardized, do I like the shoehorned cuckold replacement for it, no lol

Considering recent history, they WOULDN'T DARE adapt the sequence of events where Rebel journalist Spider works to bring down the president, The Beast, only for him to be replaced with The Smiler, who is infinitely worse. These talentless bags of shit better stay away from Transmetropolitan
Oh man don’t get me started down the ‘life imitates art’ path.Considering recent history, they WOULDN'T DARE adapt the sequence of events where Rebel journalist Spider works to bring down the president, The Beast, only for him to be replaced with The Smiler, who is infinitely worse.
Killing people by shoving explosives up their ass, bestiality, rape, murder, degeneracy, drug abuse, all fine. Show an unintentional, multi-generational consequence of corporate indifference to worker safety and that’s where Rogen draws the line?I think we all know why Mothers Milk origin story has to be bastardized, do I like the shoehorned cuckold replacement for it, no lol

I could be wrong but I got the vibe that it was more to do with Ennis' general portrayal of black people in comics vs the lawsuit and his father working himself to death. More the shit with his daughter/ex. I am actually amazed that no one has called him out for what has essentially been low-key racist depictions of black folks for years or, if they have, it hasn't really stuck.Killing people by shoving explosives up their ass, bestiality, rape, murder, degeneracy, drug abuse, all fine. MM (and his biological family) is far from a racist depiction, and what negative depictions of blacks there are in The Boys (Mr Potamus, MM’s ex, the crack dealer she was shacking up with and all his hangers-on) are on the basis of circumstance, not race.Ennis' general portrayal of black people in comics vs the lawsuit and his father working himself to death. But then again, having aretardeddevelopmentally disabled black dude (MM's brother) die due to extreme tarding out might've been an issue, too.
Yeah, again, talking about MM's ex and the crack dealer. Given how much St. Fentanyl of Minnesota has been deified do you really think having horribly "racist" and "negative" depictions of black people would fly?MM (and his biological family) is far from a racist depiction, and what negative depictions of blacks there are in The Boys (Mr Potamus, MM’s ex, the crack dealer she was shacking up with and all his hangers-on) are on the basis of circumstance, not race.
Yeah, and there's some great moments with him. Like when they suggested he get a new costume.I mean shhheeittt, The Deep is black in the comics, and that’s defying what the Olympics and World Swimming Championships have been implying about blacks and water based activities for years.
G-Coast or whatever they were is one example, yeah, and it's not a universal thing, either. Like, Maginty from the Punisher Max comics is depicted as being pretty cunning and sharp (although I don't know if that's Ennis' Irish pride creeping in there or what) or that military dude who was Morgan Freeman in all but name. You might argue that the black superhero teams starting shit during that funeral might be racist but come on bro, you show me a kid’s birthday party in a Detroit park and I’ll show you two dead and three wounded after shots fired.
And MM’s brother died because the V manifested and he basically quadrupled in size in the space of a few seconds, with his skull being crushed by the helmet he was wearing. Had nothing to do with him being retarded, or black. Just one more shitty thing that happened to MM’s family because of Vought.
Well, again, I'm talking more broadly (ie, not just the Boys) and how perceptions of Ennis' writing would come across from the usual shrill horde of assholes. There are very few good people in The Boys (it’s kinda one of the main themes) so taking critique of the depictions of black people down the Racism path isn’t really fair or honest.
You aren’t wrong. Current_year demands that blaccpeepo’ are always depicted as helpless pawns in a game rigged so only whites are supposed to win. Totally without agency, their successes are due to grit, determination and willpower, and their failures are because of whypeepo’.certain segments of the public that would be "outraged" if certain things from the comic were adapted to the Amazon series
Yeah, I'm not saying that Ennis is doing anything wrong, just that I'm surprised no one has tried raising a stink about it because of the appearance of racial impropriety. (But I guess that assumes folks actually reading or taking part in the hobbies they're injecting themselves into...)I’ll plant my flag on the ‘Ennis isn’t a racist’ hill all day long, but you correct that the usual horde of dipshits would be outraged at black people being depicted as flawed in any way.
But they did the Matrix. These talentless bags of shit better stay away from Transmetropolitan
Its funny and behind all that you have an interesting story. The show is still pretty edgy its just sanitized in certain ways for modern TV and a more general audience. Ontop of the message being shifted for current politics (IE all the evil characters are basically drumpf chud nazis) and a more general female empowerment: see how they let Rayner make a fool of Butcher as far back as episode 2.hot take the comic is worse than the show because its almost pure edge compared to the show
You’re right for the wrong reasons, it MAINTAINS the edge from the comics, while updating & developing on existing elements. When this season decided to collectively Weinstein all of us by showing us a sweaty red faced, eyebrowless & insane Seth Rogen furiously jerking off as a cameo, I knew that was the true extent of his input, shocking sex scenes that chip away at the true audience. As sexually traumatizing as it was intended to be, it was equally humiliating for Rogen, and an artistic and honest portrayal of his true value.hot take the comic is worse than the show because its almost pure edge compared to the show
I mean, look at what I said about what they did to Preacher a bit earlier in the thread.Look, Game of Thrones went off the rails when the incompetent retards filming it ran out of books to crib from. The Boys is interesting because the showrunners have a great story they could have rolled out with a few bits trimmed off, but instead they chose to completely ignore the existing story and blaze their own trail using some of the most important characters.
And more than the characters changing, this is the issue with The Boys. You can criticize the edge and some of the dumber moments of the books, but the way the actual story is constructed and paced is masterful. The show just throws that all out and suffers for it.it just keeps going off in different directions than the original
